For those of you who HATE it when I go off topic, there is a back button…save yourself the aggravation, ’cause I’m in a mood to go off topic tonight!
So here’s what I want to talk about: CHARLIE SHEEN. C’mon, how can you not talk about him right now? I’ve snarked on him here before (actually I may have snarked more on his girlfriends/ex-wives, because I cannot imagine what kind of dumbshit you must be to hook up with a guy with his history of violent behavior). But what I want to talk about now is this question: Do you think Charlie is mentally ill, or just a guy with a huge ego?
I do not think he is mentally ill, and yes, I’ve been friends with people who were bipolar so I’m reasonably familiar with how it works. I think Charlie has the typical ego of the long-term A-list celebrity. He has more money than the majority of even that group. He has experienced phenomenal success, and whatever he wants, he can have, including of course women and drugs. That said, the man’s passed several drug tests now — I think it’s entirely possible that while he’s a user, he’s not an addict. As with alcohol, there are people who can use hard drugs to excess and never get addicted to where they cannot simply stop. Maybe not all hard drugs, but certainly I’ve seen people who can use coke and then, just, not…with no apparent ill effects. (This is not to say that anyone should use coke – obviously that is a terrible idea – I’m just remarking on the addiction issue). And while society may not think much of his personal relationships, and heaven knows I can’t see WTF anybody is thinking snuggling up to him, the parade of blondes is there of their own choice.
I think Charlie is sane and most likely not technically addicted to anything. I don’t think being an egomaniac and thinking you’re awesome is proof of insanity, particularly when society keeps TELLING you you’re awesome by putting you at the top of the heap in your career. I mean, just like you’re not paranoid if they really are out to get you, you’re not delusional if you really are awesome.
The naysayers are still saying oh, god, isn’t it sad, and Charlie’s career is over, but I do not think it is. In fact, I agree 100% with Donald Trump. When asked if he wanted Charlie on the next season of Celebrity Apprentice, Trump responded:
“I would love to have him, but I’ll be honest I think they are going to end up signing him for a lot more money then he was getting paid in the first place,†Donald explained. “It’s all about ratings in this crazy business and if you have ratings you can be the worst person in the world but they will sign you.â€
I think Trump is right. And honestly, I’m so damn sick of the whole {be a train wreck + go to rehab = COMEBACK!} thing that happens in Hollywood. I swear, half these people go to rehab as a career move. Now Michael Lohan is going to be on Celebrity Rehab? What is Michael’s addiction? Because I am pretty sure it is money, given that he repeatedly sells out his own daughter’s privacy for a quick buck, and if that has become sort sort of disability, half the people I know are going to need rehab. What is next, rehab for being a douchebag? At this point, I think it’s pretty refreshing to have Charlie out there saying what he really thinks — fuck you, I’m totally fine, I just think I’m awesome and I think my boss is a douchebag who doesn’t appreciate how awesome I am. Actually, the last part probably won him a lot of new fans because America is full of people who desperately wish they could tell their boss how much they him/her, and Charlie actually did it. He did Kevin Spacey in American Beauty, for real!
I would not be terribly shocked to learn that a lot of Charlie’s “meltdown” has been deliberately orchestrated by Charlie. There is just too much that he’s said that he had to know people would just totally freaking love. I mean, I hate men who hit women but, despite myself, I find myself cheering for him every time he says something like “I guess I’m just that goddamn bitching.” And I’m not the only one, as evidenced by a million Twitter followers in 24 hours. There’s something just very, very, very refreshing right now about someone who refuses to crawl and beg and ask for his job back. And even about someone who says, fuck you and your opinion, I KNOW I’m awesome. Couldn’t most people use a little more of that in their heads? We’re a nation of people afraid to do anything at all that attracts attention or might be criticized or deviates from the norm. (And when I say that, I’m talking about harmless things, like dying your hair pink or trying a new sport or coming out of the closet. I’m not talking about breeding HYPP horses or sending horses to slaughter, you still goddamn well deserve to be shamed if you do that. I’m talking about things that make YOU happy or are simply who YOU are and don’t hurt anyone else.) Too many of us can easily be convinced we are worthless by another kid on the playground, a co-worker, a nasty spouse, whatever. Most of us need more self-esteem and Charlie has cast himself as the role model of 2011 for self-esteem. Charlie may not be a good person, but if his unabashed stand against allowing others to tell you you’re a loser helps some other people stand up and fight, which I suspect it will, then he’s going to do some good. (Aren’t moral gray areas fun to think about? Ask yourself, if some traumatized gay teenager reads Charlie’s quotes and says, fuck those asshats at school, I’m NOT going to kill myself, I’m going to grow up and be better than them, then does the morality of the source matter? Interesting question.) The man has got a lot of power, and I like the way he’s publicly using it. Yes, I know in his free time he’s sending hate texts to his exes, but honestly, half the celebrities you all think are angels are just as bad as Charlie, but better about hiding it.
So what do you think? Sane or crazy? Worst guy ever or going to end up doing some good? Career is toast or going to be hotter than ever in 2011? You’ve heard my prediction — what’s yours?
For those of you in the Southwest and looking for a nice, big Thoroughbred from a good rescue, Shiloh has Beau available. He is 16.2 hands, 8 years old, and as you can see, really a sweetheart. I am particularly impressed with how well he stands for mounting in this video…rare for off-track horses!
Pretty good conformation, ”Ready for you to paint any color you want’, and already a gelding.’ PERFECT for so many of the folks featured on this blog. They can throw *that* guy out in their back pasture with the barbed wire and no food and everyone can still live happily ever after.
If it is stable enough it would be great for some like me who doesn’t own a horse but want to practice: positions, tacking faster, posting, two point, maybe jumping position. But $1000 in that condition is way over priced if they are $1200 new!
Going off-off-topic… Does anyone remember that video posted here with the two douchey guys dancing at a resort, who got out-danced by a chick who made it obvious how lame they were? It was hilarious, and I wish I could remember which post it was attached to…
I knew Sheen was making a spectacle of himself recently, but I don’t have cable and he’s not a favorite actor of mine. I’ve been rolling my eyes when somebody bemoans his fall from greatness on Facebook.
Having witnessed firsthand what drug addiction can do to a person`s sanity, I can say that Sheen`s craziness is the kind that comes from years of drug/alcohol abuse. Just listen to the wierd crap that spews out of his mouth in those interviews – that is not the logic that comes from a sound mind.
Ozzy Osborn should go to schools and talk to them (with subtitles) what hard drugs can do to you! That would be one health class that isn’t all bullshit and lies!
I don’t think Charlie deserves anything more then a kick in the A double S with a dirty boot! I also think that Charlie should at least once in his life be held accountable for his actions like any other person. Think about it, what would have happened if a man of little means would have done the things to women Charlie has done.
Besides that say Charlie isn’t in a drug induced world of his own filled with sick delusions, say that he actually is making a stand grabbing his family jewels and in the words of the soldier I love so much ‘sounding off’. What makes that so special, why is it suddenly the next best thing since sliced bread?! Is it just because it’s mister I’m so rich and famous I can make pissing my life away look cool Charlie Sheen and if it’s not why don’t more people that aren’t afraid to stand up and sound off get the same press?!
Agreed. Something about using substances like coke, meth, and other drugs for prolonged periods of time permanently screws with the serotonin & dopamine levels in the brain so when the person goes off of them, their brain can’t self regulate – pretty much like drug-induced bipolar illness. And is Charlie Sheen an addict? Who knows, but anyone who uses these types of drugs ‘recreationally’ or otherwise is on a path to self destruction, they definitely aren’t good for you and can kill you, so if you can quit at any time, why take them?
That said, we must remember that Charlie IS an actor, and actors can be pretty convincing sometimes (as vacant, rambling lunatics). Remember the Joaquin Phoenix interview on Letterman a few years ago? I’m convinced that that interview was totally staged & he wasn’t crazy at all, just another way to drum up publicity. If you can’t beat the tabloids, embrace them in all their trashy glory!
Cocaine is a longer chain then serotonin but is the same shape on one terminal so it can hook to the brain cell receptors. The effects are much stronger and can be induced at will. There is a drug being studied that has the almost the same shape as cocaine and can hook to the receptors just as well. It shows very promising results in testing on rats.
Rats are similarly addicted to cocaine as humans are. Many only need it once to become obsessed . These rats are given a lever they can operate to get another piece of cocaine whenever they want. When the medical drug is introduced (slowly increasing the dosage) the rats push the lever less, finally stopping all together!
Studies are now being done to see if the rats will need the medical drug for a long period of time (years) or can be weaned off in just months and not return to pressing the lever. Rats only live for about 5 to 8 years though. And human studies would be complicated because participants would have to be sequestered. Plus they would have to have access to cocaine (try to convince the government to let you do that one); while the control group would not be receiving the medical drug but a placebo.
This is why doctors run medical human trials because scientists would always want subjects in a controlled environment: for some reason people object to that . . . With this getting people away from other influences and providing counseling (with or without the medication) would be best for both the experimental and control groups.
Why after almost 10 years of development is this not in human trials or already approved? Most of the people it would help do not have health insurance, so this would not make any money for a pharmaceutical company. Funding for something that has REAL potential to help addicts (who want to) beat addiction is not a priority for the government’s “Drug War”. Locking them up in jail for possession with no medical help doesn’t do shit.
Sorry to hijack, but I’ve had several pet rats and the longest any of them lived was 4 years. Most of them lived to 3 years and my vet/professors always said a rat lifespan was 2-3 years. If there are rats out there that live 5-8 years, I’d love to find some! My only problem with them as pets is their short lifespan.
Honestly, I’m the most self-confident person I know. I was a very literal child, and when my mother told me I was great as a kid, I believed her. I know I’m awesome.
That doesn’t mean I get to be an ass to other people or put them down. It certainly doesn’t mean I can threaten them with bodily harm. You can feel good about yourself without trying to make other people feel bad. You might very well be awesome, but you’re not THAT awesome.
I can’t speak for Sheen’s mental health. But he sure as hell is a first grade ass, and I don’t see anything to admire in that. You know that saying that cool people don’t have to say they’re cool? If you’re walking around repeating to anyone who will stand still long enough that you’re the most awesome thing that every awesomed, you’re probably not so awesome after all.
I know he probably will get signed again for a boatload of cash, but I really wish it wouldn’t happen. I think a far more valuable lesson for us little people is that there are consequences to being an ass for everyone, the very same consequences that rude little children get in the schoolyard. If you’re rude, entitled, and forget that other people are awesome too, no one will want to play with you anymore.
or if your a guy, sexual shirts about you, will get you a swift kick in the balls: and it should be legal! You will also have many date nights with porn . . .
As for the asshole self-entitled children in elementary become the “popular” bitches who put everyone down. If my mom hadn’t destroyed my self esteem by high school I would have given them a fucking reality check. After sororities in collage you find that being a bitch gets you no where and your past social status means shit.
Parallel: I loved your answer and I agree totally! True greatness doesn’t involve putting other people down, rude behavior, disparaging comments or abusive emotional and physical behavior.
To become truly great, one has to stand with people, not above them.â€
Marleen Charles de Montesquieu quotes (French Politician and Philosopher, 1689-1755)
Sheen may be a great actor, but he is not a great man. He is a little man that draws people to him like spectators to a train wreck. It discourages me to hear him called a great person for his behavior is insulting, belittling and extremely narcissistic. I would not want my children to emulate this man in any way, shape or form. There are so many other truly great people, that over came true odds and still maintained humility and dignity along with their greatness, for them to look up to.
Sheen’s popularity right now is simply that of yet another celebrity gorging himself on the willingness of the general population to listen to his self-serving blather. He is in reality a man who acts for a living and this is at it’s most simplest just another act.
Where do we find more politicians like Marleen Charles de Montesquieu? I suspect most people like stay far, far, away from politics or have to sell out to get elected; or to keep getting elected because they don’t have another job. The “fore-fathers” (for many, many decades) intended being elected as a civil duty and NOT a career.
Amen, totally agree. Self confidence is a beautiful thing, whether you are born with it, learn it early or late, it is the one absolute trait of the successful person, in life, love or otherwise. That doesn’t mean you have to be on top, the level you make it to in life or your success is something to be measured by you and you alone based on what it is that makes you and those you love happy, also, try not to be a total douche to other people. If you can be happy without stepping on others you have truly made it in this world.
On Charlie Sheen, he is an absolute whack job. He is certifiably a sociopath, check his behavior and his narcissistic ways. He is a bonified waste of oxygen. I don’t care if he can act, he is an embarrassment to the human race. That’s not confidence, he is being juvenile and trying so hard to make sure he rants louder than anyone around him so he does not have to face the fact that he has lost it entirely, if he ever really had it, that is. If it’s substance abuse I wish him all the luck in the world, if it’s just who he is, well, lock him up where he won’t hurt himself or others anymore.
Wow, that Beau really is a tall guy! What a good boy for standing, and what a good girl for getting up on him without a mounting block! It looked like mountain climbing.
I have sadly come to the realization that I am too old and stiff to do what she did.
Lacie,
Actually, more and more trainers / DVMs / etc these days are RECOMMENDING the use of a mounting block. You put ALOT of stress on your horse’s back and legs when the horse braces against you as put all your weight in one stirrup to climb up. Since virtually everyone of us always mounts from the same side, over time this puts alot of unequal strain on the horse’s musculoskeletal system.
I used to ride a 17hh OTTB and yeah, I prided myself in how I could swing up there without a mounting block. Older, stiffer, and wiser now, I use a blockevery time to get on my 14.2hh Mountain Horse.
While I agree with that (and use a block myself, or the fence, whenever possible), at the same time when people do adoption videos, they are often trying to show off what the horse will be good about. And many adoptive homes aren’t going to use a block (or will sometimes trail ride the horse where you may need to get off and get back on). So showing that a horse will stand for mounting without a block may be a selling point.
This is totally on topic! This is an example of someone who should not be allowed around horses without supervision! I work with schizophrenics and feel totally comfortable most of the time. Charlie Sheen scares me. I would call the cops if I ever ran into him. He should not be allowed around animals because he can’t control himself and i am sure would hurt an animal because his “hundred year old brain” told him to.
You know, I have never heard about whether or not Charlie has pets. That is an interesting question. It would be more interesting if one of his exes wrote a REAL expose one day, but they are being paid too much money to keep quiet.
Denise Richards was featured on an episode of Cesar Millan shortly after their breakup. I pay a lot of attention to how a human interacts with their dogs, it says a lot about the state of their soul ie, peaceful, nervous, indecisive. I recall thinking that watching that episode explained a lot about how and why the marriage to Charlie ended. She interacted with her dogs in a very nervous, indecisive, someone please take the reins cuz I don’t want em, kinda way. I have noticed that repeated in brooke mueller and in all the women he surrounds himself with lately. I don’t think he would have that kind of sway over a powerful self assured woman and who knows? perhaps that self awesomeness would crumble a bit if he had to be in the presence of Amazons, not goddesses. As an aside to an off topic, I believe horse women are the decendants of the mythical Amazon women and so would be immune to the charms of the charlie sheen.
I do like what you had to say about him, I hadnt taken the time to actually turn thoughts on the matter into words but what you have to say is pretty close to what I think, too.
#WINNING!!
The warrior women that we refer to as “Amazons” were real women. Not much writing has survived but they are mentioned by Greek writers and in fighting the Romans. There are many oral legends about skilled women warriors who could out shoot, out ride, and out fight the best men in any army they crossed.
No one knows much about their culture other then they practiced mastectomy of one breast to increase their draw of a bow. Some writings mention that they were tall but that does not mean they were 6 foot, just taller then average; possibly pointing to Nordic blood. During their travels they most likely added warriors of other races. They traveled much of the top region of Eurasia, confirmed by their genes show up in Mongolians today in rare phenotypes of blonde hair and blue eyes.
Why they fought in so many different regions we will never know. Money? Moral duty to defend those from common enemies? Just for the hell of it? Were they a single band or many operating all over? When and why did they fade out of existence?
I do not understand why he’s so famous. His dad was famous. Ok, lots of people’s dads are famous. He was an actor in some movies. Some were good. Some were bad. Again, not unique. He stars in a sitcom on TV. Wooptie doo. He’s also not *that* good looking and slightly overweight and acts like a lunatic in real life. Frava Flave is also like a lunatic but he doesn’t have a million Twitter followers. What is it?
Things like strange fashion choices and bizar room service requests, I find entertaining to hear about but violence towards women/partners just seems so low class and frankly boring. I start to loose interest pretty quickly and would much rather hear about someone who’s at least kind towards others and preferably who has some entertaining but harmless exentricities. Anyone else want to move on from all this?
Slightly off-topic, but seems like that’s the theme today. I will preface this story by saying that I was fairly sheltered growing up and a total science nerd, which means that even now I don’t get a lot of cultural literacy stuff because I never cared about it.
While working as a flight attendant, I had this huge group of people come on the plane, all carrying musical instrument cases. This very strange guy in a velour suit came on & sat down, but what really got my attention was these two little kids (8-12 years) who had full-size clocks hanging from 1/4 in thick rope around their necks. I figured kids are fairly harmless in the whole scheme of things, so I smiled at them and said,”So, are you guys in a band or something?”
They stared at me like I’d grown a second head, multiple arms and my skin had turned green, then slowly nodded and replied,”Ummmm, yeahhhh.” like they were explaining something very basic to a very slow person. I wasn’t really embarrassed because I had no clue what was going on and I thought wearing 12 inch clocks as necklaces was wierd too. I had to tell several people on the flight to turn off their various electrical devices and kept getting a strange response. They would look at me like they were surprised I was enforcing the rules then obligingly put the device away.
All in all, they were one of the best groups I’d ever had on a plane – everyone was friendly, funny and we spent the 2 hour flight joking around. The guy in velour kept trying to sneak out different electrical stuff, but after I caught him a couple times, it became a huge joke with the rest of his friends teasing him about breaking the rules, telling me when he was trying to do something he shouldn’t etc. He was even joking around with it too! I was really impressed, because usually people get really bitchy when caught doing something they shouldn’t.
As they were deplaning, everyone stopped to shake my hand, tell me they really enjoyed the flight, or give me a hug. The captain & co-pilot’s eyes were bugging out watching all this and as soon as the group was out of earshot, they turned to me, really excited. “That was Flava Flave!!!! We just flew Flava Flave!!!!!! What kind of soda did he drink? Was he nice? Why were they hugging you?” And so on.
I was starting to feel embarrassed now, because I had that uncomfortable feeling that I was missing something big. I asked who Flava Flave was and they were A) shocked that I didn’t know and B) aghast that I had told him to turn off his electronics….
From my little experience, Flava Flave chooses strange wardrobe getups, but he and his entire band/helpers are some of the most friendly, normal people I’ve ever met. They even cleaned up the plane as they left!
Flavea Flave seems like a very nice gentleman. He does seem to want to find love, but reality shows don’t do that. I got to give him “props” for having his own style. Behind it all he is pretty down to earth. Plus he is not arrogant.
Would I go on one of those reality farces? Hell no. And they would never pick me since I am not a striper/gold digger or self-entitled trouble maker. It wouldn’t make good TV to give him REAL women to choose from; which is what he needs.
All in all he is a good guy who deserves a women who loves him for him. He is funny/quirk, outgoing, and kind. I would be willing to date him . . . actually my love is a bit of an odd ball (different sort) himself and defiantly the one for me.
Come on, really? Flava Flav is now a nice guy that deserves to find his special someone on a reality show… Ay Chihuahua! His shtick is somewhat entertaining but I can’t help remembering that the man has EIGHT CHILDREN with multiple women. I think he had his chance (repeatedly) to find the love of his life. Most of the more buffoonish celebs we constantly hear so much about simply crave and thrive on attention, bad or good. Much like small children do. I can think of dozens of more famous people than Flav or Charlie that we never hear anything about.
Well, if he’s not an ass to people, he gets some credit for that. I always appreciate it when celebrities can still manage to have good stall manners, ha ha.
But I agree…dude, condoms…they’re cheap…free at Planned Parenthood!
He is not that famous.
Twitter has done most of it for him and that does not make you “famous” as a lot of people are just mindless “followers”
I am not that keen on any of this family- there has been horse abuse within this family for YEARS that they have hushed up and swept firmly under the carpet, and the knowledge of it has changed my attitude towards Martin Sheen- I stopped watching West Wing because of it all.
So, who is Charlie Sheen?
Never really seen him in anything, do not watch 2 1/2 men- saw it once thought it silly then it disapeared (this is in the UK) So, basically, sorry America, you can keep him and his entire family.
Meko: I love the Add! Im a model Horse artist so Ive always wanted one of those life size horses to paint and then show off in my front yard! Now THIS is the type of horse you wanna keep in your yard! LOL!
Now, back to topic, you know what, i dont really care how much celebrities screw up there lives. I have friends who are like “No, you cant watch 2 1/2 Men dont you know about…..” Sorry, Im not going to boycot any particular movie because of an actor if I enjoy the movie… And really, I doubt me spending $18. for a movie or a season is really gonna make that much of a difference. Some would say “Well if everyone stopped…” well you know what, not everyone is gonna stop.
I have no sympathy for the rich and famouse who wine about how terrible there lives are. For one. They chose the alcohol or the drugs. Im sorry… there IS a chocie in addiction, Its called not being stupid to begin with. If your not stupid to begin with you never start, thats how you keep from getting addicted.
So.. shrugs, he’s just another human being. wish him well and move on. And as for his career, he’s actually a well rounded actor who’s done a lot in his life.. I cant see him not getting back into it eventually.
To be honest, I don’t care what Charlie Sheen says, does or thinks. He is an actor (a good one I admit, I love Two and a Half Men) but he is still human. Famous or not. I have never been into the whole worshipping famous people, sure I have my favourites, but the person I want to meet is Hans Zimmer (does movie soundtracks) because I love his attitude and he is a musical genious in my eyes. I was actually more excited to meet Apache Cat (he is a champion Australian race horse).
I think Charlie may be a little crazy, I think the drugs have fried his brain to a degree but he knows what he is doing if that makes sense. But it is kind of sad that famous people treat rehab and prison like it has revolving doors. But that isn’t going to change anytime soon, is it
“the person I want to meet is Hans Zimmer (does movie soundtracks) because I love his attitude and he is a musical genious in my eyes. I was actually more excited to meet Apache Cat (he is a champion Australian race horse).”
OMG I am SO glad there is someone else out there like me!!! I also was so excited when I met Blanco, the horse who played Shadowfax in Lord of the Rings. The semi-bonding experience I had with Blanco was beyond anything I could have experienced with a movie star.
I also love Zimmer’s music. I would be beside myself if I met Danny Elfman – he’s by far my favorite composer. I also am a huge Tim Burton fan. I am friends with the girl who played Alice’s stunt double in Alice in Wonderland. The reason I know her is because she is my late farrier’s daughter. He would tell me about all she does in Hollywood, and when he told me she was going to be in AIW, I freaked out. I told him how much I love Tim Burton and how this is a big deal, etc. Well, the next time he came back he had a present for me: a photo of her with Tim that she had taken specifically for me. She autographed it for me but wasn’t able to get Tim’s autograph. I nearly started crying when I got it. Everyone asks me why didn’t you ask for Johnny Depp’s autograph? I was like who? But seriously, no one tops Tim Burton in my eyes!
So anyway, I just had to share–I’m glad we are of the same mind! I feel more normal now!
Tim’s designs are the inspiration for my new office design…I created a blog about it in case anyone is interested. http://burtoninspiration.blogspot.com
I am shocked that a few people have classified Charlie Sheen as a “good actor”. REALLY? His show is entertaining, and I have been a regular viewer, until now. But a good actor this man is not. Even though I had enjoyed his show, most of the time I noticed how awful his acting skills are. But I suppose that his twillion followers have fallen for it, so it must be good.
I think he is Loco. Bonkers. Half bubble off plumb. The reason I think this is that if he wasn’t, and allowed all of this to play through, including HAVING HIS KIDS HAULED AWAY, he would have to be incredibly diabolical. Extreme megalomania is a symptom of bipolar disorder, and he has exhibited all of markers for being in a manic state. I do, however, lean towards a simpler explanation. In the words of the immortal Barney Fife, “He’s a NUT!”
I vote for undiagnosed mental illness + years of self medicating illegally to cope with said mental illness. Have a brother who was just like him. Same rambling nonsensical egomaniac speech, same terrible choices, same years of every minute of his life being just this side of disaster and a pain in the ass for family and friends. Charlie Sheen needs to detox and get therapy asap. (I don’t believe he passed any drug test – he’s rich enough to buy clean pee)
That said – it doesn’t mean he isn’t also a class-a asshole in addition, famous or not, talented or not.
Shame on the tv networks for exploiting this train wreck du jour. Sick of it!
Half bubble off plum? I’ve never heard that one– I love it!! We use the old standby, “the lights are flashing, the crossing guards are down, but there’s just no train coming…”
Hmm, well, he also brags about how many drugs he’s used. Aren’t drugs, you know, sort of ILLEGAL? I’m not the sort of person who cares strongly whether or not someone uses drugs, but it does seem that bragging about breaking the law should come with repercussions. Standing up and saying, “Hey! The rules of society don’t apply to me!” should not make someone a role model. We have prisons full of people who thought the law didn’t apply to them so they went out and robbed convenience stores.
To me, it’s not a choice between is he manic or is he a dick. I think he is manic and also a dick.
Plus, he’s not really okay, despite what he says. He collapsed and had to be hospitalized. Remember that, Miss Short Attention Span?
Oh, I never said he was okay physically…you couldn’t be, after doing the things he does. That said, he’ll probably outlive people like me who don’t do any drugs…life is funny that way. Remember that one fitness guru falling over dead jogging? Yeah.
Charlie did a recent interview where he wishes he had never started smoking cigarettes. He did not regret any of his drug-induced idiocies. He did not regret any of the drugs he’s taken. He’s a spoiled, entitled, enabled by the public asshole. He’s not mentally ill. He has more money than he knows what to do with. If only nice people had that problem.
That is exactly what I thnk! Charlie Sheen acts like a spoiled little rich kid in an adult body. I grew up with a guy like that. His parents were rich and gave him everything, but attention. He craved it and got into trouble trying to get attention. He was miserable but I do believe when he grew up and actually had to start working for a living, he ended up turning out alright. To me there is no excuse to act that way toward people. He should use his money, power, and fame to make a difference in the world in a positive way. JMHO!
Personally, I really like Charlie Sheen, and actually all the sheen family! But, I DON’T like the things that he’s done, to ex-wives, girlfriends and even hookers. I watched part of the interview the other night, and he definitely was VERY up-front about his feelings. He said at an early age, he knew he wanted to be an actor, for the money and the “power” to do ANYTHING he wanted, and he has sure followed through!
And even though I shouldn’t enjoy his character on 2 1/2 Men, I know it’s based on his real life antics!
I guess at this point you’d think he’d have “out-grown” his “wild ways”, but I guess the maturity level is going to take his whole life to catch up with him…
I hope you mean that you like his work…enjoy the show, and so on, because considering the violence towards his ex-female companions, isn’t that a lot like saying, “I really like Hitler except for the whole slaughtering Jews and dissenters thing.”
We are, for the most part, what we do. We overeat, thus we are fat. We steal, thus we are thieves. We treat people kindly, thus we are kind.
Well, I’d like to admire him, but rather than believing he’ll set a good example for those who have low self-esteem, I think he is just a total egomaniac and will only inspire other egomaniacs to forgo whatever self-control they have and become just as intolerable.
Bipolar or not bipolar…qood question. Since there are varying effects to any pyschological defect or disease, my opion is that he IS bipolar. I worked PT for a man with bipolar disorder and although he could function relatively normal in society with medication, get too close to him and he’d dig into your soul, find your most vulnerable soft spot and emotionally stab you in the middle of it. He was rich, charasmatic, manipulative and charming. He dated women 20 years his junior on a regular occasion until he tired of them and moved on. It was ALWAYS their fault that the relationship ended. He wasn’t physically abusive, but his Jekly-Hyde personality was enough to drive anyone insane. His disorder became worse in his 40′s when he was finally diagnosed after losing millions in his hair-brained schemes. He would almost be able to convince people that the sun was out at night and they’d seriously start to look outside to see. He had no remorse, no empathy. He was always right about everything, even when you could prove he was wrong. And he had the money to fight every accusation in court – and regularly did. It always amazed me how he would get the weak of mind behind him. He treated his friends & family like shit, he even went out shopping for cowboy boots while one of his children was undergoing major organ transplant surgery. He showed up at the hospital when it was convenient. Yet they always seemed to forgive him in short order – he charmed his way back into their lives every time right up to the day he died. I was asked to leave my PT job for him for reasons that had zero to do with my work ethic and he tried to charm me with his lies as I worked my last day. I blasted him with both barrels, called him out on every selfish lie he was telling. And it felt good.
My point is that there’s a time when confidence transpires into arrogance and Charlie is a poster boy for it. The media rewards his bad behavior, his ratings go up, he gets a raise and his ego goes up another 10 notches. I have zero respect for him and refuse to follow the rants and raves. There are people worthy of looking up to, worthy of raising our self esteem. How many of us haven’t felt like crap about ourselves at one time or another? It’s called a conscience and having one alone is worthy of kicking our self esteem up a few notches. Do we really need to have our faces plastered all over the tv every night to feel good about ourselves? Do we need to be on the screen sharing every detail of our lives – inviting the whole country into our personal relations? Hitting women, drinking and doing drugs should not be center stage for our entertainment. If he’s the best we have, we all need new role models!
Interesting info!! And I agree with the second half completely!
Honestly, I haven’t given this guy much thought, besides the link posted on FB that you clicked his floating head and quotes by him came up randomly. I got a kick out of the freak things said. I don’t have cable, do not frequent 2 1/2 Men, though it was pretty funny the few times I caught it. Not really any funnier than other stuff that is out there. Bottom line is . . . who really obsesses about this stuff? And who holds these guys up as role models? I don’t know him . . . now, my dad, my grandpa, my pastor . . . real guys, living out a role model life to be apparent to me; something I want to replicate is what I consider a role model.
I wouldn’t call him a role model, not ever. What I think is that some of the things he says may actually prove helpful to someone…I think that is the actual REASON for the mass outpouring of popular support for the guy that we are seeing. I don’t like Charlie, but Charlie keeps saying things that I agree with!
I have to find the Scientology bashing. That is awesome. I live in L.A. so you cannot escape the cult here.
Narcissism is one of the diagnosing behaviors for bipolar. Along with a sense of superiority to others, the need to associate with people who are very popular and wealthy (they are always name dropping), grandiose schemes, little need for sleep, fast speech and of course, temper tantrums. They also tend to share personal information about themselves early on, things a normal person wouldn’t share to a stranger. And they cannot keep a secret or keep their mouths closed. Seriously affected people can end up naked in an intersection dancing & singing and realize nothing strange about it. Drug and / or alcohol abuse are also typical. Remember Brittney Spears behavior a couple of years ago? They are driven people and trying to stop them is like halting a freight train with a hay rope. It can’t be done. The man I worked for has 3 grown children and two of them are definite bipolars – one wakes up in the night on a regular basis seeing animals in his room (night terrors) but still refuses to believe that he’s bipolar. The stories I could tell!
If you’re a Richard Gere fan, he made a great movie called “Mr Jones†portraying a bipolar. He must’ve done extensive research on the disorder because he was fabulous! I loved his character…but have learned that
Sounds like your old boss was bipolar AND some brand of sociopath. Narcissistic Personality disorder or whatever they call it. They will NEVER believe that other people have feelings, they will NEVER believe that they’re doing anything harmful, they will NEVER believe that anything that hurts others matters in the slightest, unless it gets in the way of their agenda.
Some people are born with it, and some people have tendencies that are fully realized when they are very successful in business, politics or other field that will make them rich ‘n’ famous. Some doctors, too.
Money, power & fame will MAKE people insane if they’re not extremely careful. I mean, Moammar Gadhafi, anyone? This is why our Founding Fathers tried so hard to make our country despot-proof.
As a former meth addict who kicked the habit almost 20 yrs ago (a needle habit no less) I gotta say he sure as hell looks strung out to me. I’d also like to see those tests. (I noticed Dateline didn’t show them on air up close)
Is that a blood or urine test? Blood is harder to fake, but I can tell you I’ve passed COUNTLESS drug tests and been dirty as hell. So I’m not buying that he’s clean. Not one bit.
I also read this morning in our paper a story from a girl at our high school. Her dad has been giving her meth since she was a toddler. She overdosed at age TEN. She said today she tried heroin for the first time and loved it. She had no hope for herself or her life.
W.T.F. is happening to our world and our kids? This is what we’re teaching them, that it’s ok, people will pay big money to see you meltdown. Hang out with porn stars, do dope all day and life is good. I’m very very scared for our future. Horrifying doesn’t even begin to describe it.
I think Trump is right too, sad as it is to say. Charlie will “win” but he’s a loser in life, no matter how much money he has.
GOOD for you for getting clean. I’m grateful I never got sucked down that dark path, because I’ve seen others’ lives and families utterly destroyed by it.
Yeah, I think Charlie Sheen is a megalomaniac AND a drug addict. Really nice combo, huh?
That’s really sad about the young girl. There are times I wish we could sterilize users and take away their kids, but then, with so many politicians cutting so many important programs, what would we DO with them? What a horrid mess. And how horrid it is that young people get sucked so easily into trying so much crap. Gawd, I thought I was pretty racy for trying LSD one time (and it didn’t even do much for me – wine & weed were ever so much more fun.)
It’s terrifying, being a parent. If your kid gets addicted to something, not only do you live through THAT hell, but people will BLAMEBLAMEBLAME you.
I USED to always blame the parents, oh, yes. But having had occasion to spend time lately with the parents of some young heroin users, I am here to say that we all need to repeat “There but by the grace of God go I.” Addiction and drug abuse can truly happen in ANY family, to ANY person (not just those with the wrong inherited genes, either). These are people who by all appearances are caring, loving, deeply concerned folks. You would not ever look at them and think, “Wow, they must have a junkie kid…” I have been shocked and humbled listening to these people. They are trapped in a nightmare NOT of their own making. If I have learned one single fact about addiction, it’s that it is NO ONE’S “FAULT” BUT THE ADDICT’S OWN. Just like no addict can be forced to get clean – that is also their choice.
I wish Charlie Sheen would please just go away… too afraid that kids will find his BAD behavior admirable and appropriate. Sorry, Fugs, I am unwilling to accept him as a role model in any way, shape or form. And I do strongly feel he is mentally ill.
His egotistical rants — ‘I’m the only one who knows what’s going on; I’m the smartest guy in the room; I’m the best thing that’s ever walked into your life’, plus the abusiveness — are all clearly written in the drug and alcohol dependent’s playbook. Apparently.
My brother-in-law was exactly the same way (except he didn’t have money. He was a parasite). It killed him almost a year ago.
His behavior is all related to his addictions. He’s behaving like a dry drunk right now, translation-he may not be using, but he’s still demonstrating all the behaviors that contribute to his using. Remember: drunks are narcissistic and they are liars. Period. He’s a FAR CRY from recovered, negative blood/urine tests or not. At the rate he’s going, some day we will be reading his obituary. I think he’s a raging addict and he’s unfortunately given a platform to let us all know about it on TV and radio. I’ve seen this anger and denial time and time again both personally and professionally.
-from a Registered Nurse and mother of a recovering alcoholic.
I definitely appreciate the comments from people with more experience with addictions than I have. I don’t think he’s recovered, either. I just think he can NOT USE when he chooses to, whereas many people truly cannot stop without being locked in a room with no access to it.
“He’s behaving like a dry drunk right now, translation-he may not be using, but he’s still demonstrating all the behaviors that contribute to his using. Remember: drunks are narcissistic and they are liars. Period.”
That’s true of all addicts, whether the addiction is alcohol, drugs, shopping, video games, whatever. My experience is that addicts may or may not have Sheen’s delusions of grandeur, but by the time the addiction is well developed they become completely self-centered and no longer have the capacity for empathy, warmth, or love for anything but their drug of choice. There’s no room for morality in there either, no matter how good a person was before the addiction, they can and do lie with no trace of guilt. The addiction literally rules their entire life, and they’ll do anything to protect it. This is true even of the ones who manage to keep their addiction hidden and appear to function normally in society – it doesn’t mean they’re less addicted, it means they’re better at protecting it. But there’s nothing left inside.
This does NOT go away as soon as the drug of choice is removed. Depending on the length of the addiction, it may take years to get a normal human personality back, if ever.
The addict that I know effectively died twenty years ago when the addiction took over. I wish we could bury him already.
I think I can offer some insight here because I am a recovering alcoholic myself and will gladly break my anonymity to help other people understand. I do not know and cannot say whether Charlie is an alcoholic OR an addict as it is a purely self- diagnosed condition. No one else knows how the stuff affects your thinking, only you can ever know, because we cannot read anyone’s mind. I think he does show some very alcoholic tendencies (egomania is DEFINITELY an aocohlic tendency)….I think what he is saying is delusional, but he probably believes it 100%. (Another alcoholic tendency is delusions of grandeur. Although, in Charlie’s case, it’s not entirely delsuions.) Also, there have been MANY alcoholic men who have beat up their wives, gotten clean and sober, and never done it again. There is NO excuse for it, but alcoholism COULD be a reason. There are very few people who beat up their wives just because they are bad people. They do it because they need help. That being said, I too think this celebrity rehab shit is a joke and undermines what 12 step programs try to do. Being sober is a way of life, it is a spiritual journey. It is NOT a trend and NOT something that should be capitalized on, which is what this celebrity rehab shit does. Being sober means trusting in God, being a better friend, a better spouse, a better parent. It means not being around the same people and places as when you were using. Also, alcoholism and addiction, while similar, are two different ballgames at some point. Addicts, in my experience (I had a child with an addict), are more manipulative, canniving, and better liars, if for no other reason than to get the same high that $15 will get you drunk for, it costs a good $150. My ex was just great at making me think he was on te straight and narrow and had the world’s best intentions. And yes, you can be both, but most aren’t. Most are alcoholics who used drugs sometimes or addicts who drank sometimes.
Yeah, I agree that Charlie is bipolar, but, the person you’re describing sounds more borderline to me.
Charlie is pretty textbook manic right now – he has an inflated sense of himself (“tiger blood”! “win”!) and feels invulnerable, has evidence of a ramped up sex drive, and drug use (I think those drug tests are bull shit), is distractable in interviews to the point of being nonsensical.
He’s going to crash and he’s going to crash really hard. And soon. It will be interesting to see if he allows his shift out of manic phase to be public.
Just so everyone knows, I had to stop laughing before I could start writing a comment. Fugs, your blog post is probably the first rational words I’ve read about Charlie since this whole thing started! I can get completely onboard with the notion that Charlie has orchestrated this thing himself. He is, after all, an actor! What easier character to play than yourself, amped up to 11? And it’s not entirely unheard of – Joaquin Phoenix spent most of 2009 pretending to be around the bend for some reason, didn’t he? I’ll be totally candid – I enjoy Charlie’s Sheen’s work. His comedies always make me laugh (Hot Shots = best spoof ever) and back when he used to do action films, he was pretty good at those, too (Young Guns, anyone?). I’ll even admit to thinking he’s attractive. His meltdown? Doesn’t affect me much. He’ll either work again, or he won’t. Either way, I’m not going to worry about him because he’s got so much money he’ll never have to actually “do” anything, ever again. I watched about 5 minutes of that interview last week and I’m pretty sure he’s on something. Whether that drug is cocaine or Charlie Sheen, or both, I don’t know, LOL! I do know that the guy I work with loves him and gives me the play-by-play every week of the latest Two And A Half Men episode.
As for our society needing confidence to do what makes them happy and stop being such sheeple – YES! And quite frankly, I don’t care what source it comes from, as long as it is positive reinforcement that results in positive personal growth. But as for the Self-Esteem Spokesperson for 2011, we’ve already done better than Charlie – we’ve got Lady Gaga. Her music and her look aren’t for everyone, but her message about loving yourself, accepting who you are and being proud of who you are is a message I think every person needs to hear, not just teenagers or gays.
I’m not a suicidal gay teenager, but I was a suicidal straight teenager. I was picked on – mercilessly – for being horse crazy of all things, starting in middle school, and trust me, Doug Spink has absolutely nothing on my former classmates for bestiality jokes. Going to teachers got me nothing but reprimands to stop being a tattletale and my parents were told that I was “oversensitive” and needy for attention. I even had one teacher forbid me to use horses as a subject for any assignment in her classroom – although the boys were more than free to use baseball as a subject for pretty much everything.
Obviously, I got through it all, ’cause here I am, posting about it. Has it left scars? You bet! I’m a full-time employed college graduate, supporting myself and my horse and generally doing alright for myself. I pay taxes, obey the laws and occasionally, go to church. I vote and when I have a little extra, I save some and give some to charity, be it time or money. My parents love me – even if my Dad wishes I had been a dentist – and I have good friends I can count on no matter the years or miles that separate us. I don’t want to be married, I don’t want to have (human) children, and I don’t want to own a house. The scars from those early years show up in the form of that little voice in my head – that occasionally gets very loud – that says there’s something wrong with me because of what I *don’t* want and I will admit to the weakness of wanting, very very badly some days, to be “normal”. For me, I have to make a conscious choice every day to love myself, love who I am, and to go forward with it. Gaga gave voice to that feeling, for me. If Charlie Sheen saying “I guess I’m just that goddamn bitching.†gives someone else that voice, I am totally ALL for it.
My username is UrbanZebu, I am a Little Monster and I was BORN THIS WAY!

I don’t think unless you’ve been through it, you have any idea how viciously mean small children are. On the other hand, I think being the target makes you tougher as an adult. I am not even fazed by things that I see other adult women having total, crying meltdowns about. (Weird point but learning to keep a poker face no matter what may be the reason I can handle holding horses for euthanasia today.)
Just watched the video of Beau, and what a wonderful boy he is! Very nice canter, for being off the track. Someone is going to be VERY lucky to get him!!!
I’m going to have to go with Charlie Sheen=eeeeeeewwwwwww. I think his problems are caused by glorifying himself to the point where he feels above the law, standards, and control. He’s a huge drug addict, and while I don’t know enough about mental health to really say what is going on in there, I think he’s sane but extremely spoiled underneath whatever shit he’s taking. Though how good is that as a comparison (lol, like saying “that bum is a great chess-player, when he’s not completely messed up on LSD”)? I think pretty messed up is a good way to describe him.
I just don’t like how our culture makes a hero out of people who do scummy things. I read some really good articles about how people are willing to dismiss his violence towards women because they have all been lower in status than him, or work in unsavory professions, and people can call them “gold diggers” and feel like it is their own fault they got hit. I don’t think we should ever make excuses for violence. I don’t like when people use the concept that he’s “known” for hitting women as a a reason to say any of those women deserved to be hit. No one deserves to be hit. Unfortunately, some people think they are immune to what other women before them have endured, or unaware of the situation, or in general feeling they will be different than the last woman because he “loves” her so much. I think if this was happening to strong women that are Sheen’s equal in status, we’d see more outrage. For example, there would be hell to pay if if he smacked around Natalie Portman or Julia Roberts (obviously this is super hypothetical, and you can insert your own favored Hollywood star). Basically, we need to stop following up any comments of “well, he’s a huge jerk who hits women” with “gold diggers get what they deserve”.
I don’t see his huge ego inspiring people and turning this situation around. I think it’s laudable when a person who does good things is self-confident, I think it’s delusional when a crappy human being refuses to think he’s anything other than a god. But who knows? Maybe some poor kid will be sitting on his computer, contemplating suicide, and think “what on earth am I thinking? Look at this Sheen asshole, he’s still doing ok even though he’s a shitty piece of humanity who’s been glorified by our nation’s weird Hollywood obsession.” And then that kid will grow up to be a lawyer who focuses on female rights. You never know.
I don’t know that much about the guy, I had no idea who he was until his crazy stuff started getting quoted everywhere. So my uninformed opinion is: Yeah, he’s a drug-using abusive ego-maniacal shit. Like 50% of all the other public figures out there, politicians included. They just choose to play the PR game, and for whatever reason, Sheen’s decided to say screw it, I’m going to be completely honest about what I think and feel. It doesn’t make him a good person in any way, but it is a nice change from all the bullshit lies that the public is being fed right now. And it’s entertaining to watch.
Whether he’s crazy in a clinical sense, I couldn’t begin to venture a guess. I am pretty sure that spewing his craziness in front of the media is a calculated and rational decision. He’s on the cover of People magazine, for crying out loud. This is getting him HUGE amounts of attention, and it’s not necessarily bad attention either. Even though we think he’s a shit, we all kind of wish we could tell the world to screw off like that. Trump’s right, he’s going to get hired back for even more money and will have better ratings to boot. This is a huge win for him.
I do not agree with the comment that Charlie Sheen is a great actor. His character on Two and Half Men is him in real life. How hard is is to act like yourself? You watch the show and he looks totally bored and stoned. How many scenes is he actually stannding or moving around? He is either a) in the car; b) on a deck chair; c) sitting at the kitchen table; d) sitting on the couch; e) sitting behind the piano; or, f) in bed. So, I think he isn’t that great of an actor…he lucked into a roll that was made for him. And Lord, they have probably bent over backwards rearranging scenes so he did not have to move much.
Berta, the kid (when he was younger), his mother, and Rose made/make the show funny.
I think his brain is fried, which is causing him illusions of granduer and is making his mouth work faster than the few neurons he has left.
I love him. Yeah, I’m sure flying to South America and snorting coke of a hookers butt IS more fun than midterms that I have next week but I have to be adult, he doesn’t and he’s totally owning it (Read: Winning). Besides, he’s given us some great quotes, “Can’t is the cancer of happen” um, that’s genius.
Too bad CBS canceled Two and a Half Men, I think I would have actually watched it now..
Man, I don’t know about technicalities, but that man is batshit crazy. That can either be great or a disaster, and for him, I lean towards a disaster — personally, at least. My family is a lovely plethora of people who end up like him, and it ain’t pretty, on the personal side. He needs to get his shit together, and get off whatever the hell he’s on. THEN I can maybe slightly admire him for his obvious confidence. Right now, the whole “They just can’t comprehend my power” sounds way too much like the cracked-out, egomaniacal ramblings of one of my favorite homeless people in the city I used to live in and visit with. Not that he’ll ever be homeless; you’re probably right. America idolizes the cracked-out psychos.
That’s not to say I don’t appreciate a little bit of egomania every now and then. It’s not like he doesn’t have a REASON to be that way. Like I said, America idolizes people like him. They are very much put up on a pedestal and adored. I am a very confident person, and hey, I’m awesome. It’s not like it’s something I like to ramble about to any reporter who will sit still long enough, but it’s true. If my confidence could inspire some kid who was in the same place I was when I was younger, and THAT would win them over, I probably would. I just don’t think his intentions are as…well, nice. He’s just a douchey douchey douchebag who needs to have a few bones broken by a chick who’s every bit as crazy as he is. Because as much as those women HAD to know about his lack of concern for their mental or physical health, only a douche repeatedly beats up on any woman within a hundred yard radius.
I can’t remember where I read it, but I read that somebody kept stealing his expensive ass cars and driving them off of a cliff. I admit to laughing for a LONG time at that one. That’s great.
The first year of Two and a Half Men was actually funny and somewhat charming. The kid was still young and the raunchiness was really toned down. But the whole show now centers on sex just for the sake of sex with countless brainless women. Sex is no more meaningful than scratching an itch.
Remember when Robert Downey Jr. and Anne Heche went “temporarily insane”. Their behavior was self-destructive. Neither of them did anything harmful to another person. This isn’t the case here.
Sheen looks terrible and his behavior toward women is frightening. My prediction is this will end in a double murder-suicide before the end of the year. One of “the Goddesses” will live just long enough to tell what happened. How anyone can find this entertaining is beyond me.
Funny. We were just discussing this topic in my office, then I pulled up your blog and…
My verdict: Totally mental. Badly enough that I imagine there’s a good chance he’ll crash and kill himself some day. And while I can’t honestly say I’d care any—I have zero use for most people employed in the entertainment industry—the folks who are catering to his craziness and using him as a freak-show spectacle ought to be ashamed of themselves. Feeding off a guy who’s mentally ill… Nice one, Hollywood…
On the other hand, if you genuinely do find his sort of antics amusing and not merely pathetic or pitiable, then I recommend you rent yourself a documentary movie called ‘Grizzly Man’. It features a wannabe actor turned naturalist who’s got pretty much the same sort of disorder as Charlie Sheen, albeit in a milder form, and who’s equally funny in his own sad, mental way. He rants just as entertainingly too! Even Charlie Sheen, I’ll bet, has never fallen so low as to hysterically beseech the weather gods for rain because “Melissa is eating her babies!”
The horse statue has better conformation than most horses I’ve seen listed for sale on Cl. But it looks like he has suffered some abuse by his owner, maybe someone should call AC because those look like wire cuts all over him and rub marks on his head from poorly fitted tack. LOL
Drugs, arrogance, nonsensical rants, over-inflated ego, alcohol… whatever. The thing is, he has a violent streak towards women. That behavior is unacceptable under any circumstance — bipolar, nutcase-of-his-own-creation, addict, megalomaniac, what-have-you. So many women are already marginalized that I don’t agree with giving legitimacy to yet another misogynist.
I abhor celebrity obsession.
Well, my celebrities have four legs and run fast. Keep your eyes open for Soldat on the Derby trail. His broodmare sire is Coronado’s Quest who was one of my favs from the 90s (even though he was a drama king in the paddock before every race). So, Soldat should be able to get the 10 furlongs no problem, if he can rate a little. But I digress….
I like Soldat, too. Seems like he’s the only solid choice in a field full of question marks. Not totally sold on Uncle Mo – I think he’s going to burn out early. Based on pedigree alone, I also like Brethren (Distorted Humor x Supercharger by A.P Indy) and Astrology (A.P.Indy x Quiet Eclipse by Quiet American) but Astrology hasn’t even started this year yet. My overwhelming choice last year (Eskendereya) failed out with injury and went to the breeding shed so I’m going to cross my fingers that I don’t jinx anyone this year. After the last couple of years though, I always put a bet on whatever horse Calvin Borel is riding on Derby Day. That man is a freakin’ wizard at Churchill!
You don’t think he’s addicted to anything?!? GIRRRRL, are you crazy? Have you been doin’ crack with Charlie Sheen?!? Any dude who will say, in public, “I’m slammin’ eight gram rocks and finishing them cuz that’s how I roll,” IS AN ADDICT. More importantly, anybody who can FINISH AN EIGHT GRAM ROCK is in possession of a profound physiological tolerance to CRACK COCAINE. You don’t develop that level of tolerance without putting in just an impressive amount of hours into the project.
He’s an addict. And when you’re an addict, you’re ill, both physically and mentally.
Also – I have zero faith in the supposed passed drug tests. The art of passing drug tests has been mastered by dumber people than Charlie Sheen.
What part does he play on Two and a Half Men? Oh yea… a drinking, partying, womanizing, self centered man who generally can’t be bothered to get off his ass for anyone but himself, and who is unabashedly confident of his place as a drinking, partying, womanizing, self centered man. It should be noted that the writers didn’t even bother to change his name for the role, nor did they hesitate when it came to casting him as the rich one in his family. The unspoken statement is: Hey, I may be a loser, but I’m a RICH loser. My way works, you see?
I have yet to see the episode where he was taken to court for accidentally screwing an underage girl, nor have I seen the episode where he finds out he has syphilis, AIDS, or genital warts. Evidently being rich allows you to slum without serious consequences, gentlemen.
And yet the producers of the series have an issue with Charlie’s behavior? What… how dare he match his on screen persona? Please… this isn’t PeeWee Herman (Oh yea, we didn’t see THAT guy’s future at all, right?), out there singing his way through a children’s show. It’s a trashy show about infidelity, partying, and — oh yea, throw a kid in for contrast.
I’m not impressed with the hype, and I’m cynical enough to suspect that the media networks are focusing on him to take the focus OFF of current legislative moves toward eliminating unions and public education in America. Yes I know, a political tidbit that everyone can steam or contradict. I still believe it.
Bipolar disorder is hard enough to deal with on a day to day basis. Then add on the societal stigma that enrages with the publicity from assholes like this. There is nothing quite like listening to friends, coworkers, and even strangers speculate about those dangerous bipolar people who walk amongst them. That’s when I remember why I have to hide my condition and stay in the closet.
The vast, vast majority of us live ordinary lives, go about our business, and never hurt anyone. Blondemare, your boss was just an asshole. Charlie Sheen is an asshole. Being bipolar has nothing to do with it.
Sooo with you there! i also suffer from it, and lead a pretty normal life. i stay on my meds, stay faaar away from drugs, drink only on special occasions, and the horses keep me grounded, sane and humble.
I’ve lived with someone who has a drug addled brain with bipolar. Which comes first the chicken or the egg? It’s quite an E-Ticket ride. 2 1/2 Men was one of my favorites for years, but I watched it in spite of his character. He kinda creeps me out. Back to leading sentence.
He’s famous, he’ll milk it for what it’s worth.
I think Charlie is the Rich Version of my brother.. My brother can pass a drug test with flying colors when he wants/needs to also.. it is not that hard.. Give all Charlies money to my brother.. and make Fixing and painting cars something people love to watch on tv and my 38 year old brother could fix his teeth and BE CHARLIE.. (not quite as good looking but you know what I mean)
My brother’s brain is addled by long term alcohol abuse and drug use.. just because he (and charlie) can pass drug tests mean NOTHING.. They have the same grandiose megalomaniac – deny everything that is unpleasant and BLAME EVERYONE for EVERYTHING.. and DENY it could be their fault in any way!!!- personality..
Charlies money just keeps him looking a lot better than my brother.. funds his way better lifestyle than my brothers..
Charlie and my brother.. same guy.. different economic status. and no matter if he gets his show back or not.. he will continue to deteriorate.. possibly as slowly as my brother does sometimes..
btw.. my brother has 2 little dogs.. LOVES them and I doubt he would ever harm them.. but they live with me.. they have always lived with and been the responsibility of someone else..
I bet it is just that way with Charlie’s kids.
I see Charlie on TV.. and hear my brothers voice.. He is not crazy.. he has pickled his damn brain and ruined his ability to see how irrational he is.. cuz “Sorry Charlie. No one, not even you are THAT awesome..”
That is what I believe.. and I have watched two and a half men.. I can take it or leave it.. Personally.. I think the Other guy is WAY more talented than charlie.. if I want to watch a guy drink and whore around with women I can just watch my brother (but it ain’t so pretty or funny.) or go back to my ex of 20 years..
I have spent WAY more time in thought on this that I really have to waste.. but thanks fugs for the entertainment.. now back to shoveling some worthy shit.. from the barn..
Melanie
Actually, I have deliberately not watched a single interview Charlie Sheen has done. I am really tired of burned out idiots continuing to get free publicity for being morons. That said, I did have to repost this cartoon on my FB. They took a Charlie Brown cartoon and dubbed Charlie Sheen’s voice into it and it is hilarious! I believe it was on Jimmy Kimmel, so if I don’t add the link correctly, be sure to go and check it out because it is freaking hilarious!
IMO, he’s an asshole who, like many celebrities, has been enabled to act this way. Surrounded by people who go “you’re surrounded by jealous haters! They don’t understand your brilliant genius. It’s just so DIFFICULT being Charlie Sheen.”
Yeah, and as much fun as it might be to tell your bosses off… Not when you resort to ethnic slurs. It’s not cool — just another sign that he’s an asshole.
I would LOVE to see him take a fall. Become someone no one wants to hire. But, it won’t happen. Sadly.
Um. Regarding telling off the boss — Guess who *created* the show that Sheen has made so much money from? Guess who ensures that he has decent scripts? Guess who found the other actors? Guess who ensures he has a quality production to ACT in (that is, pretend to have someone else’s emotions and reactions while saying words someone else wrote)? Short answer: NOT CHARLIE SHEEN.
I’d say he has brain damage from drug use. I know many people who never reached their potential because of all the “fun” they had in the 1960s and show some of the same symptoms: poor impulse control, belief in themselves as the center of the universe, etc. etc. — they just didn’t have the money behind them.
I’d say the huge “following” is essentially the same impulse that creates crowds of onlookers at accidents, crimes, and disasters. Nobody wants to miss whatever dingy thing he does next.
As for his other actions: He’s emotionally about an 11-12-year-old boy who has never been forced to grow up, take responsibility for all his actions, and behave like something vaguely resembling an adult.
(Did you every wonder which character the “half” in the show title refers to?)
Personally, I wish everyone would give him all the attention he deserves (none) and get back to more interesting subjects.
Since I’m all about positive role models, setting good examples, and mentoring (from my years as a teacher, I guess), I have to fault Charlie Sheen on being crappy at all of those things. If he were just by himself and going from whore to whore without caring about any of them — other than if they walk off with his wallet — that would be one thing. He’s entitled to be a modern day Errol Flynn if he so chooses. However, he has children. Small children. And while his current soon-to-be-ex is not a candidate for Mother of the Year — coming out of rehab herself– SOMEONE needs to be a constant and a rock for their two sons.
Oddly, on AOL today there’s an article about long-married Hollywood celebs, and Martin Sheen and his wife are celebrating 50 years. Martin had some issues of his own with alcohol and nearly died from a heart attack at a very early age (before 40), but he got HIS act together — and, according to the article, “returned to his faith.” I can understand his major concern about Charlie “following in Daddy’s footsteps,” only maybe not being quite so lucky due to the “substances of choice” that he is abusing.
I’ve never watched Two and a Half Men. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Charlie in a movie that I’ve cared for (because I can’t remember any of them). I like Emilio Estevez, however.
I’d say Charlie Sheen is a raving egomaniac, and yes, a drug addict! As for “clean drug tests”, Saturday Night Live had a cute skit about “baby urine!” And who’s administering those drug tests? The cops? Or Charlie’s personal physican? Remember Michael jackson? He wasn’t an “addict” according to his “doctor,” now was he??? Poor Michael needed stronger people around him to tell him ‘NO!” Charlie needs the same! And when he gets beligerent, put him in a strait jacket until he really detoxes…just my opinion…
Completely OT from todays’ OT: Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes the AQHA to process a 2 or 3 y/o colt’s papers? My mother bought a pony last fall not knowing she was pregnant, and since the owner dragged her feet in getting the boy’s papers in, we can’t register the foal until he’s in the system.
I think it’s a sad state of affairs that allows our media to get so wound up in celebrities. Who cares? I don’t care how many drugs he does or what car he’s driving which bimbo around in. I don’t care if he meets Danny DeVito for coffee. I DON’T CARE. I hate American media, I really couldn’t care less about Hollywood, or the mostly crappy movies they put out & I don’t care who stars in them or who wins Oscars. We have bigger issues to concern ourselves with. My new issue is how to afford to drive and eat. My life would be much easier if Charlie Sheen just named me as a beneficiary for ANYTHING he may have…
Can I be the one who represents those people who don’t a give a flying fart about Charlie Sheen, or any other actor, for that matter. Shut up and do your job and then go away and hide. You aren’t role models. I don’t have any respect for celebrities and don’t really care one way or another hwat form of self-destruction they choose.
Honestly, if I saw a prostitute and an actor in a broken down car, I’d help the prostitute out before I’d help some actor. I think prostitutes have better morals and fewer drugs.
In a perfect world, actors would be treated as they were in Shakespeare’s day (they were poor) and teachers, fire fighters and police officers would be better paid then some joker who spends his life pretending to be something he’s not.
I’ve watched several of his recent interviews. I also have experience with bi-polar AND narcissistic personality disorder.
I have to say that he possibly has both.
He is definitely showing manic behavior right now.
He is definitely narcissistic.
I have loved Two and a Half Men since the beginning. I loved his character. I knew he was pretty-much a cad in real life. But for those who think he’s not that great an actor… he really does have impeccable comedic timing.
And there will ALWAYS be women willing to be with someone, no matter what their background, because of fame and money. Just think… there are women who write to serial killers in prison.
And I’m sorry, but there’s a difference between “telling the boss off and saying how great you are” and “tiger blood and Adonis DNA, being high on a drug called Charlie Sheen (be high on life… but come ON) and saying that the drug Charlie Sheen NO one could handle because your head would explode and you’d die”. THAT is narcissistic.
I agree with Fugs. I was listening to him on that fateful day he was on the “Alex Jones Show” and my first thought was, OK, he’s totally lost it. But then he started actually making some sense and then he dissed Scientology — Charlie got a pull pardon with me on that point!
If whatever he’s doing is between consenting adults, who cares. He says he’s no longer on drug and passing drug screens. What does bother me is his porno twins were caring for his sons like a couple of naughty nannies. Children just should not be exposed to this sort of thing, I’m sorry. He’s apparently in some sort of polyamorous relationship, and again between consenting adults, who cares. But these kids are growing up with this and it’s totally screwed up. That is a lifestyle that works for very few people and there always is jealously and turmoil. Numerous studies have been done on this. It’s a horrible environment for children. I do hope he gets to share custody but realizes very soon that kids need loving adults around the; not two women constantly competing for Charlie’s attention. Kids + drama = trouble.
Personally, I think the gay kid that reads what he says in a magazine, would be more likely to associate him with a bully than someone he wants to be like – simply for the fact that if you put Charlie in high school, he’s probably not the one getting bullied. I do think there is something great about being able to say “FUCK YOU! I don’t care, I’m great and nothing you can say or do will change my opinion” and I really do hope that someone out there who needs to say those things gets some inspiration from what he said, but I’m not sure that anyone who really needs to say that would associate themselves with Charlie.
I do think Charlie is a good actor, but I don’t think he’s a good role model. That ONE thing he said, yeah, I think that has the potential to do some good if the right people apply it to themselves, but on the whole – JACKASS. The people who read his quote and DO apply it to themselves could end up just like him – he could inspire these people SO much, that they do everything he does. A new generation of little Charlie Sheen minions =O
Not likely, I know. But when someone inspires you, you tend to follow in their footprints – like you. You inspire a lot of people and influence them a lot, the difference is that you’re actually a GOOD influence.
As for the drugs – I personally think that addiction is a mind set a lot of the time. Not all – I know there are serious cases where they truly ARE addicted. My boyfriends uncle (also my Dad’s best friend), was taken to hospital once and the doctors did a drug test – they said he had so much cocaine in his body that he should be dead (he was not in hospital for drug related issues either). He didn’t take it for a day once and everyone said he looked dead – I don’t know if he would live if he stopped doing it, to be completely honest. Maybe if he weaned himself off it slowly, but cold turkey I think would kill him. Apparently, alcohol is the only drug in the world that requires medicine to come off. Cigarettes I personally find easy to quit. A lot of people struggle with it their whole lives and say it’s difficult, but my boyfriend and I both quit without any problems or patches ect. My brother is the same. I think that it’s in your mind – my mother always says ‘I will TRY to quit’ and I have always thought that saying ‘try’ is failing before you even start – you say I WILL DO THIS, and if you truly are that determined, then it will work.
Good post- Lindsay Lohan would have been another good one. Hardly anyone bothers me more than her. She cries and says she’ll change and thinks that the rules don’t apply to her because she’s famous – I don’t get it. She recently stole a car, didn’t she? Why? She has money! She could have just gone and purchased a car! Maybe I’m missing something, she just drives me crazy!
Lol, if I had it to spare it would be yours – unfortunately, horses know better than any other animal how to use up any extra money you may have haha – I don’t even remember the last time I bought anything that WASN’T for them, they had better thank their lucky stars that I love them =)
I am a HUGE fan of Charlies sitcom.I think he is an addict and those clean/negative drug test Im sure are as phony as they come.He wasnt a very good actor in movies etc, but that “Two and Half Men” takes some wit and great deliverance of lines to get the writers humor across.Sure he’s overpayed, but hey Im not the one paying him so I dont care.I think the druggin and women got out of hand and unfortunately those beautiful kids will pay for it.And those idiot girls(not enough intelligence to be referred to as women)that are his live in girlfriends are just as dim as he is.But as stupid as he sounds in all those interviews I still cant even imagine myself using the big descriptive words as he did lol, tigers blood really…who thinks this shit up?An intelligent drug induced man in great denial I guess?
I agree with the poster above who diagnosed him as manic and a dick. I mean, who tells their ex that they will cut her head off and send it to her mother??? He is making a fool of himself. He is having a major meltdown and it is sad to see it so public. I don’t think that his career is over. I do, however, have a hard time understanding how he is telling the world that he needs a pay raise when he currently gets around 2 mill an episode.
It’s your blog, you can go off topic if you want! LOL!!
I think Charlie Sheen is an ass. I think a person that has to TELL everyone how awesome he is, isn’t really awesome. In my opinion it’s a sign of low self esteem and the only way he feels truly awesome is by having to tell everyone over and over and over how awesome he is. Besides, if he’s so awesome why use drugs? Drugs are used to mask feelings and to feel like you’re awesome. Oh, another thing, if he’s so awesome then why does he need to “date” porn stars and hookers? Guess he’s not awesome enough for a nice girl, huh? I don’t care how awesome you are, you don’t treat people the way he does. He would be awesome in my opinion if he treated women and his co-workers and bosses with respect instead of being such an ass.
About the drug thing, you can “beat” the drug test. Unless there’s someone there watching him actually pee in to a cup he can switch it out for clean pee. Happens all the time. You can bet he won’t want someone actually watching him! I say do a hair test for the truth!
LuvMyPaint…..
You took the words right out of my mouth with your analysis of his use of drugs and alcohol to mask the pain he is really hiding from. Drugs are an escape from a reality for those who cannot stand themselves in a sober, non chemically induced state. It is obvious that his brain has been altered by his drug abuse over the years, and I see two roads ahead for him.
1.He can remove his enormously over inflated head from his ass, see the light and admit just how fucked up he is and get real help, or
2. We will be reading his obituary at some not too far off date in time…. and trust me, Charlie, the masses will NOT gather around the world singing the theme song to Two and 1/2 Men as an homage to you. You aint’ Michael Jackson, who was also an over the top drug addicted mess surrounded by Yes men. But MJ did have true talent, you don’t.
Personally I’m leaning towards # 2. It will be a darn shame for his children and family, I really feel for his kids.
But as my wise grandmother used to say “In 50 years, no one will give a damn about what happens today.”
I watched the first series of Two and a Half Men, but after that failed to warm to the main actor/character (I think he plays himself) As time has passed I have felt my instinct about the man was borne out by his abhorrent behaviour off-screen, and I agree with your “Off-Topic” post totally.
I only feel sorry for all of the other actors and staff on the series who may lose their jobs because of this ‘man’.
I would say Mr. Sheen suffers from some sort of personality disorder, which is technically mental illness, but difficult-to-impossible to treat because people with personality disorders tend to a) not view themselves as having a problem, and b) are very often not quite “out there” enough so that it is apparent to everyone else that something is dreadfully wrong.
Personality Disorders include what we call “sociopaths”, as well as a range of other anti-social (to some degree, although the person may be VERY social, just destructively so) behaviors. Borderline or narcissistic personality disorder are common ones — people who just cannot get along with other people or who see no value in getting along with other people. Wikepedia helpfully says, “…Diagnosis of personality disorders can be very subjective; however, inflexible and pervasive behavioral patterns often cause serious personal and social difficulties, as well as a general functional impairment. Rigid and ongoing patterns of feeling, thinking and behavior are said to be caused by underlying belief systems and these systems are referred to as fixed fantasies or “dysfunctional schemata”.”
If Charlie Sheen is not bipolar (and his megalomaniacal statements certainly seem to lean that way), then I’d say he is a world-class Narcissist: “a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy.”
Personality disorders are very hard to empathize with, because they can be incredibly harmful and destructive to be around.
I’ve watched Two and a Half Men (when I had no other option) and think it’s one of the biggest pieces of crap I’ve seen on TV. Yes, I have discerning tastes in entertainment, and yes, I think Charlie is a good actor. To be able to convincingly deliver the lines of garbage he has to deliver on that show proves that to me.
I’ve been around a lot of people in rehab. He’s right…trying to force all square pegs in AA’s round holes is irrational. That said, I think he’s got an ego the size of California and has ingested far too many substances, and I wish people would just ignore him (and Lindsay Lohan and all of the talentless celebutantes like the Kardashians). If that group were ever to produce a work of quality and substance, I’ll be there. Otherwise, ignore.
My dad is bipolar, and from a young age was introduced to drugs and alcohol and binged on them regularly for his entire adult life as a way of self medicating. He acted exactly like Charlie Sheen his entire life, minus the fame and money. I wouldn’t doubt for an instant that Charlie is bipolar, him and my dad ( who is the same age too) are like long lost twins. However last year my dad realized he would probably die if he continued on the path he was on and checked himself into the looney bin, got clean and sober, on the PROPER meds, and has been on the right path ever since.
First, Charlie is clinically insane and has some serious mental issues that he needs help with. I agree that he is most likely bipolar – he has all the signs. I read the article about him in Entertainment Weekly today, and he thinks he’ll be doing a show for HBO that will be $5 million an episode…but HBO has NO idea what he’s talking about. He’s delusional, and I think it’s sad. This fuels my point that it has nothing to do with drugs or abuse…it’s based in a mental health issue. Until he accepts he has a problem, nothing will be done about it. He was only doing rehab because it was part of his contract. He doesn’t truly believe in changing himself. It’s like anything: alcohol abuse, being overweight, having a weird addiction like eating chalk…you have to admit you have a problem first and truly be ready to change it before you can.
Second, the only way he can salvage his career at this point is if he does a Robert Downey, Jr.* He MUST hit rock bottom and make a mental choice to truly make a change. Robert did this when he went to prison for 18 months. He is a completely changed man and will never go back to drugs. I have all the respect in the world for Robert for this. This is the only way Charlie can also be accepted back into the entertainment community. NO ONE wants to deal with an arrogant nutjob, no matter how good they are on screen. It’s too risky for everyone involved.
*For the record, I was a fan of Robert Downey, Jr. long before his breakdown – I LOVE Chaplin and Heart and Souls, and I think I’ve seen both about a million times each. So I am all over pretty much anything he does right now because of his choose to stay sober. Now if we could only get him to stop chain smoking…
I am bipolar and I do not act that way! There is no excuse for his actions. He’s an idiot for using drugs and if he truely does have a mental illness then he should get help. At least he has access to help. Some of us can’t afford such things as therapy. Fortunately, for the moment I have access to some meds. That doesn’t mean my life isn’t still hard. I don’t beg for attention, treat people like crap or abuse drugs. So, I don’t have any sympthany for him.
Umm – does anyone else see a male version of Anna Nicole Smith?
I think his used by date is going to land him in a similar postion. I hope he doesn’t own any animals – and I really pity his children – imagine how unsettling it must be when they spend time in his household. Not a healthy, happy way to grow up and not someone stable and mature to look up to.
Has the world really gone that crazy? That someone like him commands so much money and is in the world news headlines right up there with the civil war in Libia?
“No publicity is bad publicity”. He isn’t the way he is because of some mental defect, it’s apparently acceptable for him to be the way he is.
If talk show hosts weren’t paying him ridiculous amounts of money, if he was on the street living in a cardboard box like most addicts, maybe then he’d clean up his act. But he’s famous and he doesn’t have to.
Let’s face it, all actors are completely bonkers and necessarily narcissistic. They’re paid to lie each & every day. Their publicists make sure the media know where they’re at, product placement at the ready. The road to and from Hollywood is littered with loonies & ruined lives (Snooki, Judy Garland). But, some retain a modicum of normalcy; Johnny Depp, for example. They don’t get much loonier, but he manages to keep the better part of his life out of TMZ. Lots of the Brits, who STAY in Britain, seem to keep it together, but that’s centuries of theatrical history and emotional repression for you. Alan Rickman (wistful sigh…), Judy Dench, Daniel Radcliffe.
I have to agree with Fugly, practically nothing in Hollywood happens without some orchestration. Okay, excepting Mel Gibson, Britney Spears, et. al.
HOWEVER, it’s all our fault really – the viewing public who eat up trash magazines & follow Mr Sheen on Twitter. Americans are always so chuffed with themselves for booting out the British Imperialists, but now, in a funny twist of democracy, fame/money is king.
I have been around and around with animal control over this poor filly for over a year now – inadequate food & shelter is just one thing, but the property floods this bad 3-4 times a year. There is a small area of dry ground up by the gate – the photos were taken last night and we were able to coax her up to the dry area by throwing hay over the fence, so she did not spend the night in the water (it got down to 28 last night). The situation has deteriorated this morning – barely enough dry ground for her to turn around in. A neighbor watched most of the night – NO ONE has been by (owner is out of town but claims someone is “checking on her”. Animal control is familiar with the creep and claims he will move her if absolutely necessary. Um, OK. I’ve been told repeatedly by the authorities and our local rescue that under NC law there is “nothing they can do”. Here is a link to the NC statutes:
I simply do not accept that the horse has to DIE before anyone could press charges – even then, I’ve been told that it would only hold if she starved to death; if she drowns, its considered a “natural disaster” and out of the owner’s control. I call BS on that – the whole river valley is flood prone; flood watches went up on Friday night; there is a gauging station less than two miles from this property. NOAA hydrographs showed flooding was imminent.
MtnGirl,
Fugs has proven time and again that getting abuse like this into the spotlight can do wonders. First, contact all the local news channels in your area, tell them the story and back it up with the pictures you have. Embarass the hell out of animal control and the local authorities, and for God’s sake contact the United States Equine Rescue league at http://www.userl.org and DO IT NOW!!! USERL has volunteers and regions all over NC, they can help you. Good luck, and keep us posted on the outcome for this poor horse. Start raising hell and don’t stop until this filly is safe.
2 years ago I reported a horse down who was obviously near death, called local animal control, (the owner gave the inexperienced officer who responded a line of crap about the horse being old) I knew better, as I had taken pics of the mare 30 days earlier, and she had gone from being very thin and very pregnant, to utterly skeletal. The only part of this mare’s body still able to move when I found her were her ears.
I followed up several times that day by phone, until they got an experienced officer and a vet out there. The horse could not be saved, but the rest of his horses were confiscated and turned over to USERL for rehab. The owner was charged with 5 counts of animal abuse/neglect, and he hasn’t owned a horse since. I also called the local newspaper and reported it, and sure enough, a story ran in the paper the next day.
Thank you mybeloved. I have been in contact with the USERL and myself and the other concerned citizens around here are in the process of documenting EVERYTHING about this filly and her conditions in order to file a complete report. Technically, there are not any USERL reps in the mountain region of NC anymore (sad), but if we build enough of a case we could get one out.
Update – the asshat who owns her finally pulled her out at about 4PM yesterday. Her dry spot was not so dry at that point. I knew it wouldn’t be (as I know how to read flood warning updates – not brain surgery!) and went by to take more pictures and she was gone. This is his MO – do nothing until we all pitch a fit then swoop in at the last minute so he can’t be held responsible.
Thanks for the encouragement! I will not let this drop. Unfortunately, the law is the law and too vague in this case – in reading the NC statutes, I don’t feel that “cruelty” or “neglect” are adequately defined. The laws need to change and I am willing to do what it takes to make that happen. Does anyone know of a state whose animal cruelty laws are particularly well defined? I’d love to take a peak at how they are handled in other areas.
“We’re a nation of people afraid to do anything at all that attracts attention or might be criticized or deviates from the norm. (And when I say that, I’m talking about harmless things, like dying your hair pink…)”
I love this post because I am a woman who works at a huge Corporate Headquarters in the Midwest, and I just dyed my hair pink!!
I get way more compliments than insults, and for the first time in my life, I am not the invisible mousy girl that no one remembers!!
Charlie Sheen’s current mental state is the result of years of drug abuse. My brother used drugs since high school and finally turned to meth and totally fried his brain at age 55. Even before that he couldn’t talk coherently or complete/follow a conversation. Charlie has the beginnings of the end as far as his brain on drugs is concerned!
And since when is it COOL to be a total A$$? Reminds me of the series “House” where the guy is a brilliant doctor (OOH-AAH) so it gives him the right to be a total JERKWAD? Not in my book it doesn’t. Charlie is the result of self-indulgence run amok and since when is that COOL? What a sad role model for ANYONE to follow!
As for the women taking up with Charlie, one is a former porn star who found a better gig. Only sleep with one guy 1/2 of the time and get a free ride, but she is still using her body to avoid working for a living. No big surprise there.
Anyone remember the Simpsons episode in which all the local advertising mascots (the giant concrete Do-nut Boy statue, et al) in Springfield came to life and started terrorizing the city? Remember Lisa’s solution? She discovered that if the populace of Springfield simply turned their backs on the mascots, they immediately withered and died; the public’s attention was what gave them life. She invented a chant to teach the people how to kill them: “Just don’t look, just don’t look, just don’t look…”, and Springfield was saved! If only the chant worked in real life.
I’m a little late to this conversation, but I have been reluctatnly following news of the Sheen trainwreck and I can only say one thing (and I apologize if this has already been mentioned). This guy needs to be GELDED.
I can’t imagine what his adult daughter is thinking about her dad. And he has small children that will be growing up in the environment of “Sheen”. Does he never stop to think what he’s doing to his kids? And you know one of his “Goddesses” is going to turn up pregnant before this all over, if it ever ends… *sigh*
I feel so sorry for the little ones from Brooke. She is obviously a train wreck, too. Why is it so hard to say, I have a drug and/or alcohol problem, I won’t reproduce til I show that I can get and stay clean for a few years?
But he’s NOT awesome.
And Charlie and his antics hurt other people.
That makes him a jerk at the very least.
The world already has enough people who think they are entitled to whatever they want or think they need, just for existing. Who do what they want because they feel like it. It is an attitude we do not need more of. Last I checked, most of us answer to a boss’ opinion and rightly so if we want to keep the paycheques coming. The only reason Mr Sheen gets away with it is that he is not dependent upon a regular income – yet.
He was just fired by the producers of Two and a Half Men.
Don’t think this guy is too “crazy like a fox” – just crazy – and in a total manic state. Probably getting a huge rush from this.
I just stumbled across this: I guess Charlie Sheen has hit the point where the consequences to his career set in . . . And yes, everyone has hired big name lawyers and will be suing each other for anything and everything they can think of. How many of you could sue your boss if you got fired for his (prolonged) sort of behavior?
I have to agree with the whole “drug tests being fairly simple to fake” bit. PLUS, I’ve learned that the way some people’s bodies metabolise drugs they test negative no matter how much crap you pump into them. Case in point, I got OD’d on morphine in an emergency room because the nurse got called to a code before she could write it in my chart. Bad management but it happens.
Took a drug test for school the next day, blood not urine because the school said so. I was still so out of my head from the overdose that I put my head through one of those commercial light fixtures trying to remove a ceiling panel, fell and fractured my wrist. Then I proceeded to sit on the floor and laugh because the “red glass” was so sparkly.
Somehow I passed the drug test with flying colors. We won’t name names as to the hospital that discharged a drugged out minor on her own recognizance. I still count my blessings that I wasn’t murdered or hit by a car getting home.
Sigh, not you too… I’m flabbergasted, that the vast majority of the American public can continue to worship a grade A king of the assholes, especially when he smears his shit across the media instead of keeping it in his pants. Before he was one of the highest paid actors, in spite of how he treated (and continues to treat) women. He threatened to kill his wife, and people still watched his show with glazed-over eyes. Now, when he’s loud and proud about his narcissism, do you think America has left his side? Of course not. We’re all still bent over between his knees, hanging on his every last garbed abortion of a sentence. It’s not coke he’s addicted to, it’s attention. It provides the ultimate high, keeping him wrapped tightly in a fog of self importance… Just watch them make a reality show out of this. You think he’s done? Ha, no this is only the beginning.
I, for one, will NOT be among the millions watching his new show. I fervently boycotted 2 1/2 Men, and I shall boycott it as well. I will NOT tolerate and support this man’s behavior, despite the fact that he has won over the hearts of everyone else with his antics. He is a scumball, a narcissistic assbag who is totally cognizant of his actions. I personally think that such a person should not be immortalized in our culture, but apparently I am in the minority.
Charlie Sheen, imo is a very angry person. He is trying to be happy through alcohol, drugs and sex. It never works. I don’t know why he is so angry at the world but in his interview with Pierce whatever, he blamed everyone else for his problems. When asked how his co-workers felt about him closing down the show, he answered with, “I don’t know, not one of them have called me to see how I was”. He said it in a very bitter way. I would have asked him if he called them to say how sorry he was that he has put them all in this situation. I’ll bet he would have blamed them for the show being shut down. Alcoholism is a strange addiction. It lets you live in a world of delusion and denial. You can work and do everyday functions, but your really not in the real world. He doesn’t even think about how this will, and it WILL impact his relationships with his kids. It really is a sad situation. When people have no coping skills, they will turn to drugs and alcohol just to try and cope with life.
I watched his Today Show interview. The guy looks JUST like Steve, our cracked-out, bi-polar neighbor. Steve went from coke to meth as he came down in the world. Same WEIRD eyes, same head movements, same grandiloquent way of speaking, same feeling of menace. Charlie also sounds like he has a small cardboard box in his nasal passages – what is left of them. First time I’ve ever HEARD what snorting coke and meth can do to a nose. Luckily the police came and took away all Steve’s guns after he fired an automatic rifle in his yard. Anyway, these guys could be tiger blood twins.
Understanding the concept re opinions and assholes, just thought I’d add mine (opinion not asshole just in case that needs clarifying lol)
While I enjoy watching television at times for its sheer escapism value; I consider the lives of the actors behind the characters on the shows I watch, none of my business, although it is hard to escape being privy to many unfortunate facts / rumours about so called “famous” people because of the almost rabid obcession of the press towards them.
I do not remember hearing about any morals clauses signed by Mr Sheen – indeed I think I remember him categorically stating that he had not signed any such thing – nor can I imagine how or why the mans personal life would effect his portrayal of a character and his ability to mouth the words prewritten for him by the many talented writers working for the show.
I also cannot remember hearing that he had volunteered to be any kind of role model for the nations children – indeed I would think that his show might be a little risque for the younger set, in which case they wouldn’t or shouldn’t even know who Charlie Sheen is. Surely older children / teenagers, have their pick of train wrecks closer to their own age to worship – Lindsay Lohan comes to mind, and if the older generation still needs / wants role models, well hells bells people .. I don’t even know how to finish that train of thought .. I am boggling at the thought of all those poor plus 30 people needing to ascribe some sort of hero status on someone who has the skill to memorize lines.
Rumor has it that he showed up on time for work and acted professionally while there, and that there were no complaints about his performances. Recap: Man has job. Man does job. I think it fell apart because like many people – he didn’t know the golden rule of employment: Thou shalt kiss thine boss’s ass, or that other time honored rule of STFU. Ah well, another sit-com bites the dust – I hope that his next show is as funny as this last one. Yes – I think he’ll be back – either on the same show at a greatly inflated salary – or in another.
Cheers-
haha this is totally off topic to your post, but I thought it was pretty funny.
Someone is selling a horse statue on Dream Horse. Honest.
http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1659053
Pretty good conformation, ”Ready for you to paint any color you want’, and already a gelding.’ PERFECT for so many of the folks featured on this blog. They can throw *that* guy out in their back pasture with the barbed wire and no food and everyone can still live happily ever after.
Haha! That made me laugh out loud! Even all tacked up for ya . . . bonus!
Direct Karzy Color breeders there! When they get tired of that color they can just change him! Plus he requires NO CARE!
and hey, he’s a cremello!
If it is stable enough it would be great for some like me who doesn’t own a horse but want to practice: positions, tacking faster, posting, two point, maybe jumping position. But $1000 in that condition is way over priced if they are $1200 new!
Gaited: No
BAAAH HA HA HA
AMEN! Boy, I can hardly understand Ozzy. I sure wouldn’t want to grow up to be him!
“Rats only live for about 5 to 8 years though.”
To not be a ass about it don’t wear these shirts:
http://www.snorgtees.com/i-can-t-hear-you
http://www.snorgtees.com/i-m-kind-of-a-big-deal
http://www.snorgtees.com/i-piss-excellence
or if your a guy, sexual shirts about you, will get you a swift kick in the balls: and it should be legal!
It looks like it needs a vet!
Just the fact that his “character” is named Charlie is conspicuous. Or his is his brain that fried that he couldn’t remember any other name?
Well said. You are my new spokesperson on the issue, ‘kay?
Are you sure that guy you worked for wasn’t a narcissist? Sure sounds like it!
I loved his character…but have learned that
bipolars eat people alive. Just say NO.
(copy/paste mouse fart!)
My husband worked for this guy yeeeears ago: http://www.ibj.com/durham-insider-loans-pile-up/PARAMS/article/10719
He was a total materialistic ammoral douchebag then, and only got worse the more money he made.
Anyway, thats my 2 cents.
I like Lady Gaga too. She’s wonderful.
“I’m not a suicidal gay teenager, but I was a suicidal straight teenager. I was picked on – mercilessly – for being horse crazy of all things, starting in middle school, and trust me, Doug Spink has absolutely nothing on my former classmates for bestiality jokes.”
“I don’t think unless you’ve been through it, you have any idea how viciously mean small children are.”
Amen to that. I honestly don’t think there’s anything nastier. I never thought about it this way but that might be *why* I don’t want any kids!
I think Charlie has been in the spotlight his entire life and when he wants attention, he knows exactly what strings to pull to get it.
I think his brain is fried, which is causing him illusions of granduer and is making his mouth work faster than the few neurons he has left.
ooops role not roll
And in case anyone else was interested – Rachel Alexandra has been confirmed in foal to Curlin!! Doin’ a happy dance over here…
You don’t think he’s addicted to anything?!?
Pee-Wee’s Playhouse did give Laurence Fishburne his start. That’s a saving grace, at least. Cowboy Curtis, anyone?
Eff Charlie Sheen.
EMBED-Charlie Sheen As Charlie Brown – Watch more free videos
IMO, he’s an asshole who, like many celebrities, has been enabled to act this way. Surrounded by people who go “you’re surrounded by jealous haters! They don’t understand your brilliant genius. It’s just so DIFFICULT being Charlie Sheen.”
Yeah, and as much fun as it might be to tell your bosses off… Not when you resort to ethnic slurs. It’s not cool — just another sign that he’s an asshole.
I would LOVE to see him take a fall. Become someone no one wants to hire. But, it won’t happen. Sadly.
I say Bi-Polar pushed into a manic phase by many things, most importantly lack of alcohol, which he has said is his “main drug.” Also a depressant.
Off topic off your topic, but http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/4739708/Horrific-attack-on-horse-shocks
Somewhat graphic image. Horse is ok, but I sincerely hope they catch the worthless fucks who did it.
Just another colossal asshole!
Scathing? Yes. But Hollywood has earned it.
Dissing Scientology alone is worth quite a lot in my book!
Again, I think he’s an ass. But he keeps saying things that make me cheer for him.
Maybe I’m missing something, she just drives me crazy!
http://www.operationhorserescue.blogspot.com
Lindsey drives me NUTS too…I just want to say, can I have ONE DAY of what you spend on drugs for the horses? One day? Please?
Crazy? Maybe. Awesome? No way.
But as my wise grandmother used to say “In 50 years, no one will give a damn about what happens today.”
http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/03/07/bill-maher-charlie-sheen-is-like-sarah-palin-on-cocaine-video/
Bill Maher says it all in the link above.
Wow. What is WRONG here?
http://www.horseville.com/php/view.php?id=273811
I would agree with your post. I think personality disorder fits him much better than something like being bipolar.
I don’t think Charlie hurts Charlie (except insofar as the drug use will hurt him eventually). Charlie hurts OTHER people.
IMHO…
Just for you Cathy!!
http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/?p=28762
Umm – does anyone else see a male version of Anna Nicole Smith?
I think his used by date is going to land him in a similar postion. I hope he doesn’t own any animals – and I really pity his children – imagine how unsettling it must be when they spend time in his household. Not a healthy, happy way to grow up and not someone stable and mature to look up to.
Has the world really gone that crazy? That someone like him commands so much money and is in the world news headlines right up there with the civil war in Libia?
See, I don’t though, because Anna was incoherent. She was clearly screaming for help (that she did not get).
The main difference between Anna and Britney Spears is Britney’s family loves her. Sad.
Hate to go off your “off topic”, but I just need to know – how does THIS not grounds for seizure??
http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac171/Bonnieponygirl/Flood002.jpg
Here is a link to the NC statutes:
http://www.animallaw.info/statutes/stusnc14_360_363_2.htm
I simply do not accept that the horse has to DIE before anyone could press charges – even then, I’ve been told that it would only hold if she starved to death; if she drowns, its considered a “natural disaster” and out of the owner’s control. I call BS on that – the whole river valley is flood prone; flood watches went up on Friday night; there is a gauging station less than two miles from this property. NOAA hydrographs showed flooding was imminent.
Any advice out there??
MtnGirl,
Fugs has proven time and again that getting abuse like this into the spotlight can do wonders. First, contact all the local news channels in your area, tell them the story and back it up with the pictures you have. Embarass the hell out of animal control and the local authorities, and for God’s sake contact the United States Equine Rescue league at
http://www.userl.org and DO IT NOW!!!
So stick with it, you’re doing the right thing!!
“What is next, rehab for being a douchebag?”
Hi, my name’s Charlie and I’ve been a douchebag my whole life. Bahahahahahaha!
Idiocracy is looking more like reality every day.
OMG I could not agree more on the GELDING part.
I feel so sorry for the little ones from Brooke. She is obviously a train wreck, too. Why is it so hard to say, I have a drug and/or alcohol problem, I won’t reproduce til I show that I can get and stay clean for a few years?
“Once a junkie, always a junkie. NEVER trust a junkie.”
– William S. Burroughs (possibly literature’s most famous junkie)
How many of you could sue your boss if you got fired for his (prolonged) sort of behavior?
http://tv.yahoo.com/two-and-a-half-men/show/35441/news/tv.tvguide.com/tv.tvguide.com-two-and-half-men-terminates-charlie-sheen?nc
How many drugs did Charlie Sheen take?…. enough to kill two and a half men!
Cheers-
