Thursday – I am leaving this up a second day as the story’s so hot in the news right now and I know people still want to discuss it. A happy thread on Friday, I promise!
WARNING: Extremely graphic, unpleasant video. Not appropriate for kids, hell, not really appropriate for anybody but we need to do something about it and that is why I am posting it.
I am not opposed to drinking milk. This is not an “animal rights” issue. This is about:
1) having the DECENCY to treat meat/dairy animals in a CIVILIZED way while they are alive
2) NOT doling out pain because it is FUN for you
3) NOT letting the public believe milk comes from happy cows or some such Madison Avenue shit
This is at Conklin Dairy Farms in Plain City, Ohio. If you have a problem with this, please call Sheriff Nelson at 937-645-4102 and request that these individuals be prosecuted criminally. While you’re at it, call your Congressman and ask why these asshats got $36,000 in federal farm subsidies. Your tax dollars at work!
As always, a polite and succinct call is the most effective. Yelling or bad language is not appropriate. I know how you feel. I feel the same. You are welcome to post here that these individuals should have their testicles ripped off with a carving knife, and I will agree, but when calling the police or elected officials, holding your temper is a MUCH more effective technique. This is very simple: These people need to go to prison. They have broken the law and deserve the maximum penalty under the law. It is your right to call and ask about the status of this investigation, but you must be polite. Remember, the police see people every day who do this stuff and worse to children. They have a lot on their plates. Still, we want this prosecuted – there is no excuse for any other outcome!
As always, I must give huge kudos to the person who was incredibly brave and went in there wired up. I don’t know if you all realize how dangerous that was. These kind of people will happily bang YOU on the head and go, oops, accident. I doubt we will ever find out his/her name but if you read this, I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for you.

I did not know lower grade milk was turned into cheese. Yuck. I wonder how long cheese from abused cows has been getting out into the market? Seriously thinking about milking our own cow. We have a few bred cows for sale if anyone else is interested.
“Lower grade milk” is not what is in question when a barn is considered Grade A or Grade C. It’s the quality of the facilities, or lack thereof. As for the cheese, it’s all pasteurized, so your chances of health issues are extremely minimal.
I would like to see Dr. Temple Grandin put in a national position of authority to set guidelines and implement means to enforce them regarding both the horse slaughter industry and the cattle (both slaughter and dairy) industry.
I can’t even be creative enough right now to come up with a snappy, though painful & slow method of doin’ mayhem to these guys or a thoughtfully expressed testimonial to society’s ills and the degradation to us all that these guys were allowed to be birthed in the first place or my horror at the visuals & the complete blackness engulfing my Wa since viewing the footage.
I nearly vomited; I did cry (I have embraced my wienie-ness and am at peace, at least, with THAT).
I have come to realize I will never be an Undercover Anything; when staring that kind of depravity in the face, I would not have been able to stop myself from puttin’ a righteous & bloody HURT on each and every one of these fuckfaces ’til they cried for their mommies.
With a crowbar.
I advocate for animals, mostly because they provide us with the necessities of and pleasures in life, and to borrow a phrase, we owe them respect until the moment of their death, whether stock animal or family pet. Because I advocate, I’m aware of all manner of black-hearted, evil, wicked & unnecessary shit. But watching this was like watching the end of all hope: I could almost feel the pleasure Dickhead got from repeatedly punching a helpless infant.
There is no excuse on this Earth these fucks could ever offer as a defense or a justification for what they’ve done. NO EXCUSE. EVER. Plenty of humans have been brutalized, in every imaginable way, shape and form. And have come out the other side with compassion & empathy, not violence toward the helpless.
That these stacks of excrement are comfortable enough to perform their little cruelties in front of another person leads me to believe they have CHOSEN to be sick fuckin’ bastard assholes.
Thanks. Feel a little better now.
These people, and I’m using this in a very loose sense, need to lose their dairy operation. No wonder those cows are popping up with mastitis, they get tirured when they go in for milking. Howeveer, I don’t believe the answer is to not eat dairy, the answer is to go after the abusers. Milk may not always come from happy cows, but I would bet that milk from happy cows tastes better, without all the stress hormones in it. I wonder if these asshats have children? Maybe a call for a welfare check is in order, because if they’ll treat an animal that way, they usually treat their wives and children that way.
Just one little thing that bothers me (besides all of the obvious big things in the video). I have read all of the comments about this situation. Some made me cry, some actually made me laugh, and some, were, um, thought-provoking. Some people have said that these idiots are less than human, not the same species as the writer, etc. I disagee. I think the actions of these “humans” are just that, human. I don’t want to sit here and trash humanity, I am just saying that I am not aware of another species that would do these kinds of things. You would not see a lion, for instance, brutalize a baby of any species just for the fun of it. In my humble opinion, this was a totally human thing to do. I am not aware of this kind of viciousness in any other species. It is made worse by the fact that humans are made with a conscience. We are supposed to know better. That these people did this for the joy of hurting something makes it all the worse, but completely human. Just my 2 cents.
Excellent point and I am in agreement with you.
Because Conklin was reportedly on his county Mental Health Board, I sent an email to that body, and received the following reply:
>
Mr. Conklin is not a member of our Board. He was a Board member for
less than a year approximately 10 years ago. The Mental Health &
Recovery Board of Union County in no way condones the mistreatment of
animals and we were shocked to hear of the activities that have
apparently taken place on his farm. Please let us know if you have any
further questions.

I am so angry right now I don’t even want to leave a response. These men are obviously a danger to the public. Anyone who beats, and tortures and animal that extensively no doubt has tendencies for more serious crimes, as in murder. If that had been a human he was hitting, he would have caved in their skull.
I can understand cows are a little dense sometimes but christ! What’s with the repeated beatings in the UTTER where they know it hurts the most? Breaking tails? WTF?
All the folks here who are horrified and aghast at this video–but who likely ate bacon and eggs, or cereal with milk for breakfast–are hypocrites who are actually facilitating illegal and legal cruelty. When you eat food from factory farms, you are CAUSING animals to be tortured. Your money is supporting the routine, legal cruelty (as well as the extreme violence in the video) that is the norm in factory farms.
Don’t eat meat, cheese, milk and eggs from factory farms–i.e. most of the products for sale in grocery stores. If you must eat meat, etc., buy it from farmers whose farms you have visited with animals that look healthy. Or from the local farmer’s market–ask them for pictures of their animals.
If we don’t put our money where our mouth is, animal abuse will not stop.
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. — Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948)
my customer who works for Mercy for Animals came in tonight before catching his bus back to Ohio (petition drive going on) someone was questioning the role the camera person plays in this and if they egged the guy on. Apparently there is a code of conduct in these situations when filming. They are not to express any encouragement or to condone the behavior in any way. All of the raw *unedited* video is handed over to the authorities -cops- but they edit the video for the press website etc (of course because its hours of footage) so the people filming are held to a standard for how they act during their undercover time.
Also btw he said most of the suppliers who did business with Conklin Farm have pulled out and are not ordering from them any more, this will probably put them out of business and hopefully Ohio laws will change.
When I heard of this is I was so angry………rage angry. I still am. I read it in our new papaer and the description of the activities were enough to paint a picture in my head that made me cry and feel sick to my stomach. I just could not bring myself to watch the video. I just could not do it. I know what I would like to have done with these waste of flesh that could do this kind of blatant sick atrocities on any living creature. I would like to take these fuck brains and tie them to a bed of nails and slowly rips thier dicks off then shove it down thier throats to gag on. These are the very type of ppl who dont deserve to live….period… and deserve to die as horribly as they have treated thier victims.
What in the world has a baby calf done to deserve that kind of treatment? What in the world has any animal done to deserve that kind of treatment.
Not all dairy facilities are cruel to thier cows. Of course the milk one buys is not guaranteed to come from a farm that treats thier animals well. I lived across the street from a dairy cow milker. I went to the facility many times to learn about the processes. I saw no signs of abuse, the cows looked good and grazed in wide open pastures. Granted they are not treated like pets……they arent pets but business: However business should not include cruelty. The cows new the drill and followed in one by one into thier stancheons where they ate feed while being milked. Each cow’s udder was washed and any wounds (teats, udder and otherwise) treated before being turned loose back out into thier feilds. I only saw the occasional whack on the butts to get a cow to move on down the line to the next open stancheon if she was holding up the line. Nothing to the point of abuse. Male calves born to new cows were often given away….we received such two calves. Female calves were kept for future dairy prospects.
In this particular dairy operation the occasional whacks on the rumps were nothing compaired to the “abuse” done by nursing calves butting the tar out of thier mothers udder (to let down milk) which is normal nursing behavior. I am glad that this was my first exposure to the dairy industry and was not a bad experience. Good dairy farms do exist, good business practices in the dairy industry as well as the beef industry exist. However it seems they are so hard to find lately and that needs to be changed dramatically. Fines and slaps on the wrists need to be turned into major punishments. Like what Dr Temple Grandin said….”nature is cruel, but we dont have to be.”
I still feel like puking. These guys are just assholes, this is just the epitome of evil. What the fuck could possibly have gone wrong with these people’s brains to actually make them want to do something like this?!?!
Stabbing with pitchforks, stepping on heads? I only got a quarter through, I can’t even handle it. I’m never drinking milk again.
Before people rip my heads off for posting this, I have to say that I do not condone animal abuse, and I’m glad that the person who WAS abusing the cows is being charged. I am also glad that the owner of the farm is not being charged because as stated in the following report, he did not do anything wrong.
http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2010/jul/06/7/charges-will-not-be-brought-against-dairy-farm-own-ar-135541/
As seen in the article: ” “They saw the unedited video of Mr. Conklin’s actions, not the highly inflammatory version released on YouTube by Mercy for Animals,” said Union County Prosecuting Attorney David Phillips. “In context, Mr. Conklin’s actions were entirely appropriate.”
In the YouTube video, a short segment of Conklin kicking a cow was spliced between scenes of animals being abused by Billy Joe Gregg, according to Phillips.
“The YouTube video created a perception that Mr. Conklin was involved in this abuse, which was simply not true,” Phillips said.” “
Wow. That is just horrible.
I know sometimes you have to use a cattle prod or make a calf call to it’s mother – but you don’t have to punch them or stab them! These people didn’t have ANY reason for doing what they did – they just did it because they are bottom-feeding low lifes. How disgusting. I can’t believe they BROKE a cows tail. God that makes me sick. I wonder if the owner of the business knows what is going on?
I have worked on a dairy farm before – only breifly. But nothing like this happened – the worst at either of the dairy farms I was at was sometimes cows would get poked with a tube of plastic – not hard, just to make them move over. There was a cow at the other farm whose leg had to be restrained when milking was taking place – because she kept kicking the cups off. It was a loose chain, it didn’t hurt her and it got the job done.
I would seriously do to those people what they do to those animals, call me sadistic but i would take joy in it, not joy but it would make me feel better knowing they had to go through what those animals did. I don’t understand how some humans can be sooooo……… #@*%@($*%&@)!*#&%(#*@)!#(*$*%)#)@_(&%$%($))@*@ you get me right. some people they just leave me speechless at how heartless they are, you know. This is there typical day, get up see the wife and kids, go to work abuse animals, come home and love their family with the same hands they hurt, abuse, and silently kill the animals with, If they were my parent I would never want to speak or see them or know that they live on this planet ever. Just because something can’t speak against you doesn’t mean that it’s ok to hurt it. human babies can’t talk back to us but we don’t go around punching them in the face, stabbing them, breaking there body, emotionally and physically hurting them.
SICK F*CKING BASTARDS!!
What I wouldn’t give for a sealed room, a pitchfork or two, and 5 minutes alone with each of them. There is absolutely NO excuse for this. This literally made me sick to my stomach.
I watched this video back when it came out. It is horrifying. I love the dairy industry. Even worked at a fairly big one (800+head milking) as the calf manager for 2 years. I only left because of the retarded amount of hours I had to work (gotta have a life and time for my horses!). I remember reading in some dairy magazines that this abusive employee had only been there a short while and when they did more digging he had a history of this kind of thing. The article urged dairymen to actually check references and do back ground checks on all employees. And I’m pretty sure it came out that the camera man was egging him on. All in all I know you have to be rough with the animals some times and they don’t like every thing you do (dehorning, vaccines, ect) but there’s no excuse for the kind of behavior in this video. Please keep drinking milk! Unhappy cows make less milk = less profit = dairy out of business. Happy cows (from any state!) make more milk = good for business = vast majority of dairies treat them very very well!!
