Get the gelding bus – and not for the horses!

An alert reader just sent me this news story:

Whatcom Man Arrested in Bestiality Case

For those of you who don’t know, bestiality is the practice of having sex with animals.  Like having sex with minors, it is illegal because an animal cannot give consent.  (Yeah, I know, it should be illegal anyway because it’s totally disgusting – really, no matter how open-minded you may normally be, I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t think this is gross beyond belief).  Washington State has, unfortunately, become sort of famous for this particular perversion due to the death of Kenneth D. Pinyan, a Boeing employee who got exactly what he deserved for engaging in this kind of activity back in 2005.  (Warning:  link to the story includes graphic details but, thankfully, no graphic pictures).

Unfortunately for horses, Douglas Spink still walks the earth.  You may remember him from his previous appearance on this blog:

Run, Forrest, Run!

Now that this new story has come out, I will say yet again that Corinne Super deserves a MEDAL for “stealing” Capone.   There are not many situations where I would say that you have to do the right thing even if it breaks the law, but this was one of them.  I don’t care if the horse was legally hers or not.  I’m REALLY glad she got him away from that FREAK!

From the current story:

“You’d think you’ve seen it all in 36 years,” said Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo.

He says dozens of horses and dogs were seized from the compound. Some of them were so injured they had to be euthanized.

“This shows there is something new that is shocking even to law enforcement,” he said.

Doug Spink has had numerous chances to clean up his act and get counseling.  He isn’t going to change.  He needs to be imprisoned for the rest of his life.  Really, I’d be fine with just buying an island and putting all of those convicted of having sex with horses or children on it.  Let’s say children under the age of 14 so that horny teenagers don’t wind up there.  But as far as I’m concerned, those two groups should just be dropped off on an island and if they kill each other, great!  We have improved the gene pool and taken these weird, sick elements out of it.

I have a mare right now that also suffered through one of these people.  Those of you who were involved with Columbia Basin Equine Rescue will remember the story of Soot.  Soot came off the feedlot in April 2006 and promptly, thanks to people on the message board sending money to “bail” her out, went to a woman called Mandy Strother in Sheridan, Oregon.  Several months later, Mandy returned one of the CBER horses, Corporal, in far worse condition than he had been in on the lot.  A few weeks afterward, I found out about it and started to research Mandy.  It took no more than putting her e-mail address – shown in her CBER board profile – in quotes and googling it to find another profile for Mandy – on a bestiality message board.  Mandy bragged that she had all kinds of animals ready for “training.”  I threw a fit to CBER management, which was ignored, but the horses did get out of there thanks to another rescue (Hytyme Equine Rescue in Eagle Creek, Oregon) within the week.  CBER then failed yet again, putting the mare with Dean Solomon.  You all know that story and if you don’t, type it into the search box.  A few homes and years down the road, now I have Soot, who has been renamed Abbey.  She has had all her ground work and I can sit on her but you can’t tie her and she strikes at people if she feels threatened.  Gee, I cannot imagine why! I’ll be keeping her myself unless I can find her a true “companion horse” home where she could be safe.  I usually think horses can come back from anything but this one will, admittedly, always have “holes” — and I can’t blame her a bit!   That is her on the left, trotting in the round pen recently.  She’s sound, and she’s still young, and she’s been very quiet with me.  She may yet be “my” horse but I don’t think she’s ever going to be 100% mentally again.

When I hear more about the latest Spink case, what rescue(s) or a.c. agencies are helping the animals, and what you can do to help or foster, I will update you.  I also want to give a big shout-out of applause to law enforcement for staying on top of this freak!  I always hear a lot of complaints about law enforcement and what a poor job they do, how things don’t move quickly enough, blah blah.  What you have to remember is that what you personally know about or what is in the news is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what they have on their plate.  They are always following up on a huge case load and doing everything they can to keep you and your animals safe.  They are not as well-financed as I wish they were, or as well-staffed.  Overall, they do a great job and the fact that they caught Spink again is a great example.  None of us would have found his disgusting little compound out in the middle of nowhere.  Huge kudos to the feds and Whatcom County for putting Doug behind bars where he belongs!

Don’t know if you heard this before but apparently this policman in NJ got away with it because the consent of the cow was unknown. Serious loophole

Having raised cattle, and being married….. I would think that having a cow “Lick your junk” as you put it would hurt like hell! Cows tounges are like sand paper, and men parts are kind of sensative.

I grew up on a dairy farm and know all about their sandpaper tongues. I was just going by what the article said the facts of the case were. There are some sick mofo’s out there and quite honestly it doesn’t surprise me there is some freak out there that gets off on that. Pain=Pleasure is not such a foriegn concept. There is S&M, domination, auto-erotic asphyxiation, no big surprise some freak discovered cow tongues.

Lock ‘em up and throw away the key. THAT should be the “action du jour” for creeps like this, be they child molesters, murderers, or “bestials.” If they cannot behave in a civilized manner, they do not belong in society.

What is WRONG with people — them, law enforcement, their family members, people who knew them and did nothing to intervene??

I have my own views of what is “wrong” — children having children they have no clue how to care for, putting the kid in front of the television as the babysitter, not receiving proper parenting classes or information prior to the birth of the child and letting the babies more or less grow up on their own. “Parents” who do not understand that their job BEGINS when the child is born and will last — unless the court or Fates intervene — for at least 18 years.

I taught high school for more than three decades and saw first-hand what happens when kids grow up on their own. It isn’t a pretty sight and it doesn’t make for a very pleasant work environment, either — for teacher OR students.

But THIS kind of thing is beyond gross. Something is very wrong here.

Happy dance! Happy dance! Last time around I found his potings as “Fausty” on the beastiality website. Had to be the most disgusting, filthiest trash I have ever read. This time I found his Symbiotic Minds forum. You can see the sociopathic personality oozing from the mindless dribble he spouts off. It reminded me of a particularly foul, controlling and menacing ex of mine, but at least the ex didn’t rape my horses.

This guy is a menace to society, I hope his cellmate has a soft spot for animals and a big giant shank hidden in his mattress. I hope he rots. I wouldn’t piss in his ear if his brains were on fire.

First of all I didn’t think bestiality was illegal everywhere. Is it in every state, and in canada? I didn’t think so for some reason. Anyway reading this entry was really interesting because the only discussions I’ve heard about the issue is in abnormal psychology lectures that are entirely on the other end of the spectrum. When we discussed pedophiles, zoophiles, even homosexuals, the general consensus is that someone’s sexual preference is engrained and unchangeable, no matter how much therapy they recieve. Which of course is an issue for pedophiles, voyeurism, exhibitionists, etc. because their actions are illegal and violate others’ human rights; yet you can’t change their basic desires with treatment. (or if you can, it’s very difficult and the effect is minimal.) The view on these was very accepting; not encouraging but accepting.

Zoophilia isn’t a DSM diagnosis even. That’s why I didn’t think it was even illegal. (I’m glad it is, don’t get me wrong, but I’d put it more in the category of animal abuse/ cruelty)

But anyway, I don’t condone it but I also think there’s a huge difference between pedophila and bestiality, especially regarding the legal issues. It’s like the difference between killing a child or an animal, or even kidnapping a child versus an animal. It’s not the same.

Anyway, I understand many people here would be on the other extreme, but I can’t help feel like people can’t help certain things about themselves, and sexuality is one of them for sure. It’s good the law is stepping in in this case, because if the person refuses treatment and continues to do this they need to be stopped, and either put in prison to prevent the actions or put in therapy. (either drug therapy or CBT or something) However, it still bothers me to read the person being referred to as a freak and say they should be killed and everything else. I don’t know how to explain it, like I guess some would say “psychopaths” or even schizophrenics should be put away forever or “taken out of the gene pool” but I feel like people have issues they can’t help and it’s up to society to provide a system in which they can get help.

Maybe I’m weird and I doubt anyone here agrees at all but I just wanted to throw my opinion out there :)

Here’s the thing. Everybody has kinks. Everybody has things that are unchangeable about them.

The problem with zoophilia and pedophilia is about consent. Animals and children cannot agree to be part of this. Which is what makes it abuse. Some people are turned on by objects – fine! It’s weird, sure. But they can’t “hurt” an object by acting on their desires. Homosexuals are just like heterosexuals – sex involves consent (unless it’s rape).

Surely some compulsions and innate parts of personality can’t just be accepted because the things they act out on are actually dangerous and abusive. Those things cannot be treated the same way by society because of the capacity to cause harm. Some people get their sexual fulfillment by raping and killing – it’s a deep and unchangeable part of them. We call those people serial killers and lock them up.

While I do believe there are people out there who are real zoophiles, who need help more than they need castigation, in this case?

In this case I think there’s so much anger because Fausty is also a crazy and deranged sociopath who has made a lot of people angry, rubbed his “tendencies” all over the internet, and gotten away with it for so long, and somehow did that while maintaining a relatively high profile in the horse world. For him? Sure, I’ll use the word freak. It’s not just that he’s into animals – he’s violent, prone to risk taking and illegal activity, etc.

The issue is also one of obeying the law. I may want to kill someone because in my opinion they are lower than pond scum, but I cannot use the “I didn’t know” or (with apologies to Steve Martin, the “I forgot”) defense for committing the crime. There is such a thing as “justifiable homicide,” but the “lower than pond scum” excuse doesn’t work qualify.

In some foreign countries, homosexuality is against the law and punishable by death. If homosexuals go to those countries, they would be smart not to flaunt their sexual preference. There are also, from what I’m reading lately, cultures where sex with children is permissible. Here it is not.

When in Rome … or wherever … do as they do. People who do something against the law must be prepared to face the consequences.

          “When in Rome”

Um, no. the whole “the culture is ok with it” is BS, sorry. We used to have a culture of oppressing anything that wasn’t a white male. Fortunately, that’s not the case anymore.

FGM, any form of oppression of women, or the “different’ aka not the “cultural norm” isn’t okay. Not by any standard. I don’t care if a culture thinks its ok for 40 year old men to marry 13 year old girls. that is NOT OKAY.

the culture needs to change. Education is one way to solve that problem, but just dismissing it as a cultural disparity in effect condones it.

Where would we be if slavery and male domination of females was still a cultural norm?

there is being open, and then there is condoning harm. I am open minded, I have no problems with two consenting adults doing what they want to each other. Involving those without choice, options, or a voice is WRONG. I will continue to speak against it as long as I have breath.

Don’t get me started on the whole religion as an excuse to oppress women thing. I could go on all day.

Yes and no. I’ve heard of pedophiles who know it’s wrong, and avoid situations where they’d even have the opportunity to do anything. Fully sympathies to them. Same goes for other kinks that would be illegal to act out – I’m still rather creeped out by it, but so long as you’re finding ethical ways to get your jollies (or are skipping it all together), fine, and I admire the self-control that it takes.

But guys that enact the stuff? You have a good point that this is not on the same level as child abuse, but it is abuse all the same, not to mention exceptionally disgusting. I’m okay with calling them sickos, and wanting them out of society.

I agree with Mel. There are people that know they have illegal urges and do NOT want to act on them. They stay away from opportunities to do so like an alcoholic staying out of a bar.

Then there are people who simply try to cover up their behavior. Doug is that kind of person. No, it is not the same level as child abuse BUT it is the same TYPE of behavior – a compulsion to have sex with something other than another adult who can give consent.

No, it isn’t but to me this type of crime is more about the depravity of the person that perpetrated these heinous acts, and it is that behavior that must be stopped.

“but I can’t help feel like people can’t help certain things about themselves, and sexuality is one of them for sure”

Yes, people can help their sexuality but it takes them recognizing it and working very hard to change, and probably seeking professional help to do it. How about chemical castration for people that commit heinous sexual crimes and I mean heinous like what this guy did. Also repeat offenders should have something drastic done to them so they won’t continue to offend. I appears as though you work in the mental health field and I can understand your compassion for sick people but the reality for the rest of us is these people offend others. What gives them that right? Have you ever been sexually offended because it is devastating to the victim. Acts like this perpetrated against animals where the animal is damaged and has to be put to sleep is inexcusable and unacceptable in our society. If I caught someone doing that to my horse I would probably shoot them or beat the living crud out of the with a shovel or whatever else I could get my hands on.

I hope you have a strong flamesuit.

Unfortunately, several respectable studies have shown that this isn’t a universal cure. some men, driven by hormones to rape or to molest children DO stop on hormone therapy. However, some don’t. The difference seems to be the cause behind the urge. I think it was a Bryn Mawr publication that demonstrated that deviant sexual urges were diminished, but urges to dominate and control were not. So, pedophiles and bestialists may or may not be helped with chemical castration. ALSO, I 100% agree with FUGS – sexuality is intrinsic but sexual behavior is optional.

We all choose every day. I choose to remain faithful to my husband. that doesn’t mean I am NEVER attracted to another man, just that I don’t act on it due to the damage it would cause.

Choosing to maim and abuse – and I hope I NEVER learn what could cause a mare to need $2,000 in restoration to her innards, how horrifying – is fundamentally WRONG. Regardless of the reason behind the act or the method used to inflict it. Zero compromise there.

I wouldn’t judge someone for being attracted to something – but I judge like heck when they inflict themselves on someone or something that doesn’t have an option to participate. Again, ZERO compromise.

Sex beyond the biological imperative is a perk of human nature – not a right, and not a reason to harm. Ever.

If a hoarder starves 50 horses, or an animal sadist tortures and 50 horses, or an animal pervert damages 50 horses in the course of having sex with them, I really don’t see what the difference is.

But why should Zoophilia be an “acceptable” because it’s sexual?

I see your point here, but I disagree. Yes, a child’s life and mental health is more valuable and more important than any animal’s. I would rather someone harm an animal than a child.

But animals are similar to children in the following way:
-They do not understand what they are doing/allowing you to do, and cannot properly consent to it.
-They are TAUGHT to do what you, as a human adult, tell them to do! How is that fair?
-They depend on human adult care to live! A child can’t fend for itself, and neither can most domestic animals.

Whether it’s a child or an animal, it’s taking advantage of a nieve being who depends on human adults for survival. The consequences might differ, but it’s essentially the same crime. Who the victim is does not affect the gravity of the crime.

(Kind of like how stealing from Walmart is just as bad as stealing from Mom and Pop’s General Store. Theft is theft. Maybe Walmart won’t be as affected or hurt by it, but it’s still wrong.)

Your thinking is not at all weird. You have an intellectual curiosity, and that is a very good thing. Being disgusted and horrified often leads quickly to sheer judgment. You can remain disgusted and horrified yet still wonder how an adult learned such deviant behaviors. Wondering allows room for compassion, which is not automatically the same as giving permission or agreement or allowance or even forgiveness.

Remain curious in life. Better still–pursue understanding.

This guy gives me the creeps. Even so, just what went wrong in his life–and when? Is this learned behavior or does he truly have a defective mind?

In any case, I agree with Fugly–put him on an island, far, far away, forever.

Rabid dogs can’t help biting either but they’re usually disposed of because they’re a danger to society at large, and I think the law should have the power to do the same to these people. I’m sick and tired of what’s good for a few being a reason to allow them to continue to destroy the lives of many, whether those many are humans or animals. Political correctness brainwashing has stolen way too much sensible reason from way too many people.

I see everyone’s point of view here, I think, but in my opinion it is very understandable that some people would prefer to eradicate these sort of ‘compulsions’ from the overall gene pool. Sure, it’s hard to change and you can’t help it and all that, but breeding will mean that your kids might be the same. Maybe we should just try and apply ‘selective breeding’ as we seem to believe we have the right to do with animals, to those kinds of people as well.
Why should a pedophile for example, be entitled to have children? think about it… They might be the same, if we assume its genetic and unchangeable and all that….

Everybody gets all up in arms when you “go there” and you are immediately likened to Hitler:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_eugenics

But in a strictly logical sense, could we improve humans by only reproducing the individuals that are healthy and mentally sound? Well, of course we could. Breeding is breeding. It’ll never happen though, because people are too freaked out that it would be abused (which, honestly, it WOULD be. Pretty soon some group would take over and decide whatever ethnic group they didn’t like, or hair color, or whatever, was undesirable). So, it’s up to each of us to decide for ourselves if we are “breeding stock” and honestly, a lot of people make a very questionable choice there. My old boss used to foster special needs kids and he had 2 boys from the same mother. She was a drug addict who was trying to have a baby on each holiday of the year. I am not making this up. They were severely emotionally traumatized because her interest waned after actually having them and she would leave them alone for days…as babies.

With something like pedophilia, you can show that most pedophiles were molested themselves. So they aren’t innately perverted – it’s a perversion that was created by someone who abused them. Very sad, but sometimes the only answer is to keep them locked up in order to keep others safe.

It’s called eugenics and was practiced in this country I believe as late as the 70′s. Thousands of “mentally deficient” people in institutions were sterilized against their will in this country… I think Nazi Germany had the record though.

Regarding the freak with the bestiality compulsion… you know it’s wrong – ask for help. If you build your life around being able to indulge in and hide your illegal/immoral compulsions, then you need to be stopped. Better for you if it is in the (relative) safety of a prison because if I catch you messing with my horse/child etc. you won’t get the chance to
be rehabilitated. I have an unfortunate history being a victim of this kind of behavior and I will take no prisoners :)

…and on a purely objective note, people often can’t even breed ANIMALS that are worthy of passing on their own genetic material. I shudder to think what would be our general consensus of “acceptable” breeding humans, and would like to point out that even though a lot of poverty and misery happens, so do a lot of accidental success from unexpected quarters.

No, eugenics just shouldn’t ever be in the cards for humans, BUT education and readily-availble birth control are a good place to start.

Of course, people like that drug addict mother will NEVER have it in her to make decent decisions, and unfortunately the state is stuck with the bill for rearing her children. Kudos to your boss for fostering.

I should also add that therapy for non-illegal paraphilias (zoophilia included) focuses on the patient’s functioning and comfort. So people who seek therapy for say, some random fetish, do so because the problem is interfering with their life in some way. Pedophiles often are forced into therapy because what they are doing is illegal. Zoophilia falls somewhere in the middle. Someone who trespasses onto someone else’s property to have sex with their horses is doing something illegal, but someone who buys their own horses and doesn’t hurt the horse, well, not so much. When we discussed this in lecture (we discussed a guy who had sex with horses) the therapist was telling us about how she tried to make the guy understand his issue, how he could better control it, etc but didn’t do much else, and ended the discussion saying “and he probably left therapy and bought himself another horse and lived quite happily” which I found really … uhh… weird.

So I don’t think it’s as black and white as “bestiality is 100% illegal.” but I’m not sure. The entire issue is really controversial. In the case you were discussing, for sure the person needed to go to jail, and I’m glad they did.

My personal opinion is that you cannot change what/who you are attracted to/aroused by.

Can you change your behavior? ABSOLUTELY. It depends on how good your self-control is, how much opportunity you have, etc.

For example, while I think some people are gay, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, there do exist people who are gay but choose not to act upon it because their religion says it is wrong.

Sexuality is not a choice. Sexual behavior is a choice.

            Fursecution!

No, just kidding. I’m not a furry, just a big fan of terrible word play. I did however date a furry for about two weeks because he was cute and sweet, but too weird even for me. Therefore, I can speak from first hand knowledge that in at least one sector of the community bestiality would not be a proper outlet.

There are two kinds, the people in the suits and the people who adopt idealized traits of their preferred animal (like the guy I dated). It’s actually similar to shamanism, if you’ve had any experience with that, except instead of an isolated, ecstatic experience it’s more a matter of slowly adopting changes to your lifestyle and behavior.

I strongly doubt that bestiality fetishists would find any actual common ground there.

While I’m sure it was a transcendental experience for him, I don’t see many people joining an order where the clergy expects you to scratch them behind the ears and tell them they’re good boys. But hey, my religious preference is pretty disorganized, and I could point to current practices that are stranger.

I wasn’t an objective enough observer to draw any convincing conclusions, and the movement is so socially unacceptable that I don’t see any reputable anthropologists focusing on it in the future, but when they do it will probably be a must-read.

              Ahh, the Furry thing.
Gotta step in for a moment here, because…I am one. Not in the sense of wearing a costume for sex. Not in the sense of believing I am my “spirit animal” or whatever, because I don’t have one. But in the sense that I like art and comics featuring humanoid animal characters, have been going to conventions since the late 90s, and I met my fiance because of the cute-but-kinda-maturely-oriented comics he produced, I generally accept that people outside the fandom would consider that quite Furry. Though I don’t call myself a Furry within the fandom because I’m NOT heavily into the more extreme/strange swings of things, from the outside I’m sure most people wouldn’t be able to make the distinction. Or feel the need to. So, being as the Furry community isn’t actually brimming with freaks any more than any other geeky fan community is, I don’t mind honestly telling people so. (While I admit the concept is weird, the reality is much more boring than people imagine and the internet likes to pretend, LOL. I compare it to that age back in the 80s-90s when there were ‘experts’ running around screaming that people who play Dungeons and Dragons were holding satanic rituals and arcane ceremonies, when in reality it’s pretty much just people sitting around a kitchen table with dice and pads of paper.)

I can tell you with CERTAINTY that the vast majority of Furries have been, and would be (and still are), HORRIFIED at the implication that all Furries welcome bestiality practitioners. In fact, I’ve known of a few cases where folks have been outed and banned from major community sites because they decided to be public about their ‘love’ for their animals. Most of the major artists I personally know in the community actively dislike/resent the implication that Furry art = bestiality. I just don’t know that it’s even all that great for people who are actually into bestiality, since most of the time furry characters are portrayed as behaving and looking mainly human (without the human facial features…just change heads, add fur and tails).

Unfortunately for the Furry fandom, Furry isn’t so easily distilled into “fursuiters” (people who wear costumes, aka “fursuits”) and therian/otherkin/other terms for animal spirituality that I haven’t kept up with. In fact, I’d say that both of those groups are actually a very VERY small minority of the whole (and the people who actually have sex in fursuits are an incredibly tiny minority of THAT minority, because those costumes are generally OOAK, expensive and hard to care for! Asking most fursuiters about fursuit sex is almost a guaranteed way to offend most of them). Anyone who tells you otherwise has not had much experience with the fandom as a community.

Sorry for the long blathering post. If anyone wants to discuss it further, feel free (I know I came in kind of late to this post, but I read ‘em all). :) I just hope that me and my ol’ rescue gelding are still welcome to haunt the blog.

The other thing is, if your fetish is satisfied by simply rubbing your junk on your pet or putting honey on your… body… and letting an animal lick it, I personally find it gross, but it’s not criminal.

Animals don’t feel “violated” by such acts. They don’t care. They’re like, Oh, I’m getting petted. Or Oooo, ummy sweet honey! nomnomnom

It’s when the animals get hurt – now THAT’s my issue with it all.

Oh, and keeping your non-breeding-quality animals un-neutered simply for your own sexual gratification? UGH.

According to the law in Washington, beastiality is illegal. You are correct that not all states have laws against this, however, Washington does, and that is where these people were conducting their activities. So while there may be controversy about bestiality, in this case it is illegal and there isn’t much of a point in discussing that aspect.

I think it is black and white. Sorry, that’s just me. Every human is inclined to want to do some sick things. I got angry enough at my students that I took great pleasure in imagining beating them down with a board. But it would never leave my imagination. He’s a human and he is bound by the same rules we all are. Furthermore, if these animals had to be euthanized then it’s obvious that these horses were being damaged in a measurable way that was hurting them.

The trouble with your argument is the same problem as arguments teachers like to toss around. Just because a kid has a learning disability or comes from a bad family situation does not mean that we can ever give the student a “pass” in any way. They have to understand that it will be harder for them, and they will just have to work their butts off to pick up the slack. You don’t get a free ride pass just because the chemicals in your brain are a little off from everyone elses. These men had a responsibility to find ways to get psychological help and cope with their fetish. Instead they hid their activities on a country road in a make-shift compound.

since i am fairly sure someone will say or think “welllllll, it doesn’t actually hurt the horses”, i am gonna get my 2 cents in early. so many of these freaks don’t “just” want to have sex with an animal, it’s tied up with control issues, and a sense of destroying innocence. that is what makes it similar to pedophilia. but since it is such a twisted perversion, these types tend to enjoy other goodies too. stuff like torture and mutilation, those also give the feeling of power. my guess is that it is also like pedophilia in that it’s impossible to “cure”. lock ‘em up, throw away the key, or just euthanize ‘em and save the money. and this is not limited to horses, just talk to any large rescue group and you will find a ton of stories. ick

          Ugh.
I wonder if this might all have a bright lining — like a chance to make some new case-law by “awarding” custody of Capone to someone who will actually care for his best interests. I know that it doesn’t really work that way because animals are property, but our local (Michigan) legal news rag had an article just the other week on how judges in divorce cases are beginning to look more at the animal’s interests (whoever took care of the animal gets it) than the basics of property (whoever bought the animal gets it).

Anyway, this case is so extreme, maybe it would get a judge to go out on a limb and give Capone to Corinne, if she were to bring suit for custody of him as soon as Spink is convicted. At the very least, we can hope for an order against him owning animals, right? Gah.

This subhuman gives proof to the adage that some people are alive only because it is illegal to kill them. I appreciate the psychological aspect to this creep’s problem but why does his right to remain free, seeking new victims, override our rights as human beings not to have this foul stench stinking up our lives? My solution to these serial scum: take them out back and shoot them. What good is locking them up going to do? I believe LWOP is more cruel; stuck in a hole somewhere, knowing you’re never getting out. I don’t want to be cruel in kind; just want my world to be free of trash like this. What kind of excuses must we keep hearing? F’em!!! If he were “any” kind of man, he’d do himself in and let us breathe more easily.

What about the remainder of the animals? What agency is hemorrhaging its budget to care for the “lucky” ones? Do they need/want funds/equipment?

No bestiality is not illegal in all states. Let’s hope that changes. I think it is not illegal because prior to the internet most people didn’t know it was even an ISSUE!

These people are hardwired this way, they cannot change but some could certainly control their urges same as priests SHOULD control theirs.

While I don’t condone it I can see where some “acts” are relatively harmless to the animal (such as people who just like to um, be around the animals or even a man having s** with a horse will not hurt it with his (the mans) own equipment. I mean we palpate horses and cows every day without a thought and the arm is a whole lot more uncomfortable. Male dogs and horses probably don’t mind having s** with ANYone at any time ya know? Females? Not so much. If only Soot could talk. No wonder she doesn’t trust people.

BUT when it progresses to actually injuring or killing animals or having s** with smaller animals (sheep, goats, dogs and so on) and animals whose cycles are ONCE a year and are not prepared for activity the rest of the time it is certainly beyond a fetish and into the realm of sadistic and cruel. Those people should be taken out back and shot. IMO

The fact that some of these animals were injured and had to be euthanized shows that this group is in fact of the sadistic variety, not the more benign type.

But since animals cannot consent to this behavior and it is certainly not in any way required or beneficial to their healthy or welfare it should be a felony everywhere regardless of what was or wasn’t done. They should go write fiction and trade that. Jerks.

Ew Fausty again. I thought he had sunk into oblivion after Capone got stolen. As far as I remember he wasn’t just “undercover” about his… whatever you want to call it. I remember there was a link posted on theold Fugly blog in the last thread about him and it was him saying how he didnt care what others thought and he was independant and blah blah blah. Well when you’re a slave to your sexuality you’re dependent AFAIK. More importantly I remember that he was actually BANNED from that Beastiality forum we had found him on. Jesus H Christ, that should tell you how badly ill he is, the fact a bunch of people most of us would deem to the very least disturbed, ban HIM for being overly deranged and gross.

My opinion about beastiality is that it is gross first and foremost, that it’s complicated in terms of consent and lastly that STIs can be transmitted from one specie to an other and we don’t need more in the human population. However I have researched it as part of a project on paraphilias and I did find interesting differences between “zoophilia”, “beastiality” and “zoosadism”. Self-proclaimed zoophiles are the ones who somehow have fallen in love with one specific animal and may or may not have sex with it. These are the least likely to hurt an animal. They’re the types to say it would be wrong to have intercourse with an immature animal or small animals or reptiles/birds whose systems are completely different. Beastiality is the act of having sexual intercourse with an animal which can include the stereotyped “sheep-shagger” to the deranged zoosadist. Generally speaking though, those who I’d categorize as “beastialist” are those who truly see animals as a sexual fetish rather than having any true feelings of concern for their well-being like the aforementioned “zoophile”. Last but not least, the zoosadists are the ones that should be locked up and away for their fettish is beastiality and sadism rolled in to one. These are the sick fucks that take pleasure in raping animals but also torturing and dammaging them. They are the souless psychopaths like Doug.

So if only for the three reasons I mentioned at the beginning of the last paragraph, people should just… not have sexual intercourse with animals. It’s gross, it’s consensually hard to define and it’s high risk of introducing diseases we don’t need! Stick to furry conventions and roleplay if you really can’t help it.

I seriously hope they catch that evil, evil man. It makes me sick to my stomach just thinking someone would not only have sex with animals, but torture them too AND invite other people to do the same? WTF! I think we need to do more than just geld him. He needs to have his dick chopped off too.

The eating theory is probably closer to the truth. Bush meat is considered a delicacy in parts of Africa and it would not be hard to get blood in an open wound while cleaning a kill. Monkeys are known for a disease called SIV (Simian immunodeficiency viruses) and it is likely that it managed to cross the species barrier at some point in the late 40′s (there is a record of blood donated at around that time containing HIV, though the donor was not identified). It didn’t become widely known until the early-mid 80′s here in North America.

We all take the time to call for that horrible employee so my theory is if we call/write and say that we appreciate the job done (like with this creep) then more people will start acting in a positive manner.

that is such a nice idea! Makes perfect sense, too. That’s why so many customer service people look dead in the eye – at least they won’t get into trouble for being monotone. No reward for good, only fearing the bad.

Reminds me of some story about a town that started giving its cops gift certificates and such to hand out. They would pull people over to tell them they were doing a GOOD job driving safely and give them a prize!

I work in a job that basically amounts to customer service a lot of the time, and I have come to expect nothing less than disrespect from every person that walks in the door. Sometimes they escalate it by yelling or taking it out on me personally or threatening to try to get me fired (when I’m just doing my job, sometimes I have to tell them things they don’t want to hear.) I’ve gotten quite a few apologies, though, from some of the worst screamers. A few handwritten “i’m sorry” notes that show up in the mail. And a box of candy once, and flowers another time! If anyone actually says “thank you” sincerely for my help, or goes out of their way to say I’ve done a good job, it’s so surprising and unexpected I hardly know what to say!

anyways thank you for bringing that up, I will try to do the same myself.

Yeah, when I stumbled across their forums looking for info on Mandy (Sheesh, I just wanted to know if she had a prior conviction for neglect!) I simply could not believe it. Suffice it to say that, while I knew that it existed, I thought it was much, much more rare than it apparently is.

I wonder if this is at all related to that guy who was killed having sex with a stallion at another animal brothel awhile back, the one that finally got the state to make having sex with animals illegal. Was that in Bellingham or Belview? It seems like an awfully strange coincidence if it was in the same town.

Enumclaw. I don’t know if they were involved with some of the same “groups” or not. I will say that I bet law enforcement loves the Internet – they can find the freaks on their very own message boards! Sure makes enforcement easier.

Well apparently he was and that is what got him busted.

        Quote form article:
Tait had earlier been convicted of trespassing in 2005 in the Enumclaw case, in which a Gig Harbor man died after having sex with a horse.

The two men’s communications set in motion an investigation that resulted in Spink’s arrest Wednesday at the Sumas farm for suspicion of violating his federal probation for drug smuggling. Federal prosecutors and Whatcom County sheriff’s officials say Spink also allowed people to come to the farm and have sex with animals.

Here is the whole article: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2011623988_animalabuse17m.html

        Birds of a feather…

And how sick is it that some of the animals euthanized were mice? Gee…wonder what they did to them? I’m thinking something similar to the Lemmiwinks episode of South Park.

One thing going for horses everywhere is the fact that Spink is still on probation from the cocaine smuggling conviction. Let’s all hope he gets some serious time out of this.

there IS actually an island for these freaks! – it’s a state run facility in Washington somewhere in the Puget Sound region I think….saw it on Oprah (bleh, I know, but it was on at work so I heard it) Anyways, its considered a “rehab” facility, but the people never actually leave. It’s where they send sex-offenders and the like after they’ve completed there jail-time and if they are deemed too dangerous to release into the public again. Hopefully that’s where this guy will go if he doesn’t get life in prison!

Yeah, the sexual offenders’ unit on McNeil Island Correctional Facility. For felons who have completed their sentences, but are deemed still too violent and deviant to be let back into society. Mostly, their crimes were violent rapes, often on children, and they failed to complete treatment while incarcerated andrefuse to acknowledge that anything they did was wrong. Somehow I doubt people like Sphincter would end up there, unfortunately.

That was so freaking sick I could barely skim through it.

Particularly disturbing is his knowledge of horses and hoof care, even fixing cracks in the mare’s feet. Wonder if he is a farrier, and what his clients would think if he is. Personally I think I would freak if I found out someone I put in contact with my horses did this crap.

Wait – dude was raping a STALLION? I mean, taking it like the one who died is plenty nasty but at least the stallion wasn’t hurt physically.

I think these whackadoodles have difficulty attracting and retaining “normal” mates so they go find ones without the ability to criticize or say no.

The downside to the internet is I learn WAAAY too much for my peace of mind.

    holy crap.

There is a little more to this story.

    http://www.komonews.com/news/local/91057099.html

There is some connection between Spink and James Tait, the person convicted of trespassing in the original Enumclaw case and now charged (again) with animal abuse (2009) for having sex with horses in Maury County TN.

    http://tinyurl.com/yfoo8zu

It appears Spink was trying to contact Tait for unknown reasons. I can only imagine why – and I don’t want to know.

And thanks to your link on The Stranger, and other information passed along, I’m fairly confident of where the original Enumclaw (sick) mess took place. If this is the place I suspect, I know the former owners of the facility, at that time. They (facility owners) had no idea this was taking place.

So why would DS be trying contacting Tait if there wasn’t a connection between them? He somehow found out about the charges against Tait in TN.

These sick people are tied together.

If he can be convicted for the human stuff that was found, then there is serious jail time and he will have problems for the rest of his life — I don’t know about the horses/animals, that is not considered as heinous a crime in this country.

I do wonder about the other stuff that was found, it is convenient, isn’t it?

Adding, after reading that article from the news about this, I noticed that he got a lenient sentence for the cocaine thing because he ratted all his associates out. Which isn’t a bad thing, we don’t want drug traffic to continue, but doesn’t say much for him as a person (but then, scumbags aren’t known for honesty, loyalty, or anything else are they?)

Hope he is convicted to the fullest extent of the law and goes to prison for a very very long time.

Well after chatting with the friend of mine that I went to the inspection with, it was Doug I met and whose hand I shook. I’m relieved to hear Capone is out of his hands, even if his current situation is an unknown. I hope the current is better than the previous.

When I met the man, he seemed aloof and a bit schmoozey, like a used car salesman. I didn’t get a ‘bad vibe’ from him, but at the same time, I got the feeling he wasn’t somebody I wanted to make connections with in the world of Warmblood horses either. Several of the people there knew and got on him with quite well, some of the others didn’t seem too friendly with him. I as there to observe the horses and potentially find a solid boy with a good mind worth breeding one of my mares to. Out of all the stallions (there were 6 or 7 at the inspections, 3 of which were Doug’s as I recall), Capone was the only one I really liked.

Not only that, but he had posted new pictures of Capone on his webshots album that appear to show him at the location that was just busted (going by descriptions of the property) – these were posted between November and March of ’09-’10.

I don’t have the link, but they’re posted on the COTH thread.

if anyone ever violated my horse, dog or cats in that way, I would beat them beyond recognition. I’m not joking either, I would wait outside their house with 10 friends and a lead pipe and get revenge on behalf of my beloved pets. Bestiality is disgusting and cruel. Even when the horse is the one doing the penetrating, it’s still cruel, because that horse has no freaking idea why it’s being made to mount a human, and will be really confused and mistrusting of humans afterwards.

    Hello,
People really need to start contacting the prosecutor on this case and start pushing for him to file charges already! Judge Ira Uhrig has already said the evidence of animal sex abuse is overwhelmingly enough to charge him.
The only reason he hasn’t so far been charged is the prosecutor doesn’t want to spend the money if Spink gets a greater Federal sentence for probation violation that he would for bestiality at the county or state level.
There is a law against this in Washington, whether it in the end doesn’t add time to the sentence doesn’t matter, this needs to go on his permanent criminal record as a conviction, and so that he can be forbidden from owning animals for at least two years. Otherwise, if he is not charged he can go right back out and repeat this with new animals.
We have to ensure this does not happen!

He has lost his residence to foreclosure and his animals have been removed from him permanently, now it’s time for all of us to step up to the plate and start pushing for prosecution. There is NO federal law against bestiality or animal abuse, but the prosecutor erroneously stated that the federal judge had found he commited the offense. That is true, but there is no federal law against this.

Here are some contacts, please address these people politely without anger or accusation, hard I know, but we will get more flies with honey this way. Remind them that judge Ira Uhrig has determined there was overwhelming evidence, and has awarded the animals to the humane society and removed them from Spink’s ownership. Remind them that without a conviction on the animal abuse or bestiality crimes, this inmate can go out and buy new dogs the day after he gets out of prison and open up his bestiality farm again. With a conviction on record, he can be forbidden from owning animals for at least two years.

Prosecutor Dave McEachran wrote in an e-mail that filing a first-degree animal abuse charge against Douglas Spink would be repetitive, given that on June 14 a federal judge in Seattle found that Spink had committed that offense.
Federal prosecutors levied charges that Spink violated four conditions of his probation by engaging in criminal behavior, lying to his probation officer, associating with criminals and leaving the country without permission.
