Please feel free to continue the dogs thread, I know some of you haven’t had a chance yet. However, I may slack on the approvals tonight as it’s pretty hard to add code when approving stuff on the phone and I won’t be home. It’ll all go up tomorrow morning if not tonight!
#1 – The owners of The Hump, that lovely restaurant selling endangered sei whale and horsemeat, had enough business sense to close the restaurant. Hooray!Â
#2 – I’ve got a really good home looking for a horse and she is having a little trouble finding what she’s looking for. This is in Washington but she’s willing to consider anything on the West coast. Seeking an Arabian mare, 15.1 or above (and that means really – you own a stick with a level and you know how tall it is for sure), good bone, sound, and a good enough mover for the Arabian shows as a Western Pleasure horse. Must be at least green broke, age somewhat negotiable (let’s say under 15) and it’s ok if it’s a show horse who has been on hiatus having babies for a while if she has stayed tucked up and looks good. Buyer has no problem seeing past “pasture condition” and can ride a sensitive horse well but no rodeo stuff. She has a particular liking for Polish horses but will consider all. This is the home you all want to sell to – a permanent home with immaculate care, no abuse and lots of cookies, which is why I mention it here. If you know of a mare like this, let’s hook them up!  Email me with ARAB MARE in the subject line – pics a must, video a huge plus. Â
I’m running out the door so I don’t have time to make a new ad, but SOS Equines in Kennewick, WA has a new rescue that I would want for myself if I could – she’s a Mr. Prospector bred mare, for those of you who are fans, a 15 year old named Tapatia. Someone go get this mare! The MP’s are as kind as the day is long and this mare is no exception. I’m told she is a total sweetheart. This is not a track broke mare – she neck reins and has some advanced training, and she rode like a rock star when they tried her out!

When advertising horses for a rescue organization you should probably make sure that the quarantine is done on the horse..Appears the MP TB mare you are pushing at the crappy rescue in kennewick has strangles.. maybe they should finish their own quarantine before hocking a horse .Lord knows the fools on ABR have paid for the QT so maybe SOS should do what they are ripping people off for.
I quite assure you that if the mare is sick (which I hadn’t heard, but which is common in these horses), that SOS would NEVER let her leave the premises until she was healthy. That does not mean she cannot be offered for adoption, just that she wouldn’t go home until she had a clean bill of health. You clearly have a stick up your butt about them, but there are absolutely no incidents that I’ve ever heard of where a SOS horse went home sick – unlike CBER. If you are alleging that has happened, name names.
Why do you think she has strangles…? From what I can see, she’s not swollen, and there isn’t much–if any–nasal discharge. Am I missing something, or are you just trying to find something wrong with her so that you can blindly accuse SOS of being a negligent rescue? Based on the adoption fees of the horses, I really don’t see how they could be running a scam. $550? That’s what I spend on my horse’s care for one month, including board. (He’s on pasture board, and I provide feed and hay.) I’m not very educated on the subject, but that doesn’t seem like a scam or a rip-off to me…
Freedomrider, Tapatia did come off the feedlot with a snotty nose, as did Storm Bar Deck. Storm Bar Deck was adopted & no QT was raised for him, his adopter from THE BEGINNING wanted to do her own QT knowing full well that the last several horses to come off the feedlot had been sick. I think you are very very confused, we have horses that have been here for over a year that had only the initial $300 raised for their care. For instance those 2 mares that came in from your buddy Jimi, they got her last summer & only had $300 raised for their care, yet both are still here & have had dental, farrier (boy was that a job considering the ski slopes they had) shots & worming. Not to mention both are no longer so thin that their backbone sticks up. That is alot of value on the dollar.
yes we are actively looking for an adopter for Tapatia, we’re planning ahead. Never has a horse had QT paid for it & left with an adopter sick with strangles.
I dont think this is exactly what she is looking for (this mare isn’t broke yet) but this looks like a really really nice horse for a good price.

I just saw her on CL and thought she could be a good Arab show prospect, but then again I know very very little about Arabs as I am an AQHA girl
Or this one. Although it doesnt say her height either.

^ Please have her buy this one so she doesnt get bred to a Curly again! Can you please do a blog explaining exactly what the purpose of Curly and Curly-crosses are, because I am seeing fugly ones all over CL and everyone is bragging in their ads like it is something so great. I know they are Hypo-allergetic or whatever, but still. If you are cross-breeding them to normal breeds doesnt that defeat the purpose?
That’s a good question. When you cross-breed curlies to other breeds does it make them NOT hypo-allergenic? Hmmm… You should do a blog on curlies. It’s my birthday today and that’s what I want as my present!
There are two genes that create the curly coat. One is a simple dominant.
Therefore, if you cross a curly to a non-curly…its kind of the same point as crossing poodles to other breeds to try and get the coat plus characteristics of the other breed.
The problem with curlies is they do not have a solid, consistent breed standard or standards. There are three types of Bashkir Curly horse: Stock type, driving type and gaited.
The latter type comes from the fact that the recessive curly gene is common in the Missouri Fox Trotter breed…so really, a gaited curly is a hypoallergenic MFT.
But the breed association enforces very little in the way of conformation standards. I’ve seen amazing curlies and terrible ones…and they should be three breeds, anyway, not just one.
Please do a blog on curlies! Every one I have seen has been so fugly inbred it’s sick. But because they are non-allergenic or whatever, they can afford to be ewe-necked and cow hocked with 3 strands of hair that they call a tail. I have never seen a well put together Curly, I would like to, but I doubt it’s gonna happen.
I think curlies are “hypoallergenic” in the same way as poodles are “hypoallergenic” – it means squat! I sneezed just as much around my barn-mate’s Bashkir Curly as I did around my own horse. It’s all about how clean you keep your horse and his duds!
wow um…
Speaking as someone who has owned poodles, and wants more of them, they ARE hypoallergenic to someone who is allergic to dog hair. They don’t have hair. They don’t shed. They have wool. Which means that if someone is allergic to wool, then they may have a a problem with poodles.
Same with curlies. They can be hypoallergenic to someone allergic to horse hair, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be allergic to their coats with a seperate allergy.
Or allergic to something in the enviroment and just be blaming it on the animals.
Actually, people usually aren’t allergic to the fur, it’s the dander that’s the problem. No dog, cat, or horse is 100% hypoallergenic. Some breeds produce less dander, therefore are less of an irritant, but all need care to help.

Kameo (one of the mares in Sweetzippinchip’s post) is a Khochise son (one of the best of Khemosabe’s sons).
http://www.kharouselfarm.com/stallions/Khochise/
He’s a perfect example of the stallions that should be bred – -he has 38 national awards and has the reputation of producing lovely minded horses.
Er . . she is a DAUGHTER of Khochise — sigh. At least I think that is the photo I saw in an earlier ad.
Actually on their website is a story about a horse named apple that they had to help stand up to load in a trailer and when the horse got to california the new owner had to euthanize the horse and their vet was shocked that a supposed rescue would even ship a horse in that condition. And if i remember correctly during the CBER days Shawna of SOS was a stoic supporter of SAM and CBER.So i guess once she realized how she could run a scam better then cber she struck out on her own.so the only stick up someone’s butt is the one up yours when yuou blindly support things without looking in to them.Put an article up about sos and see how many people have stories to tell about this local rescue and the way she keeps her name connected to cber. If cber was so bad shawna would never even mention them, in my opinion, to attract people to her rescue/breeding stable..
I actually saw Apple shortly prior to that and I can personally attest that the horse was in excellent condition with mild permanent lameness. I saw her gallop around and do rollbacks with others in the field. I believe, for this reason, that the horse had something go wrong on the trip. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t defend it so fervently – but I did. I don’t support things I haven’t looked into. I’m sorry that Apple’s adopter chose to blame SOS, but I can attest that the horse was in excellent condition, just mildly lame, shortly before she made that trip as I saw her myself in real life.
Not every accusation you read on the Internet is true. SOS has been victimized by a very angry racehorse barn that got “outed” for dumping their horses to kill. They are always telling tales that have no basis in fact and trying to stir things up online. I have never seen any evidence that SOS operates disreputably or misrepresents their horses.
Can you explain what a” mild permanent lameness ” exactly means ?
Sure. What I saw was she was off in front and it looked like typical old off-the-track-Thoroughbred lameness: No swelling or heat or any sign of anything recent – most likely x-rays would reveal bone chips and arthritis. She appeared mildly lame in front – off but not head-bobbing – and sound behind. She was galloping with the herd, doing rollbacks and hard stops, and otherwise enjoying herself with no sign that the lameness was anything but a long-term condition that she was used to living with. I do not know what resulted in the condition that eventually ended her life. Since you seem to be arguing that anything that dies should be necropsied, did her adopter necropsy her for a vet’s opinion?
I have a great idea, freedomrider – let’s stick to the topic at hand rather than bashing an otherwise well-reputed Rescue.
As Fugs pointed out, Strangles is commonly found in rescue horses, and can incubate without symptoms for many months (years?) while still being contagious. If this mare you speak of has strangles, then she may not have caught it there, or it could have been incubating in the QT area. Its a regular part of rescues and any barn that has horses in and out. My boarding barn is finally at the tail end of dealing with a bout of strangles that came in with an asymptomatic horse who was there for 2 mths before showing symptoms. That horse began a domino effect with the horses that had been turned out nearby (and were not horses that left the property often). Quite a handful of other horses picked it up even without proximity to the positive horses in spite of chlorine pans for cleaning barn shoes, hand sanitiizer, and gloves spread everywhere. It takes a while to run its course, but is seldom fatal and is most memorable due to the abscesses that can make such a mess if they show up. Other than that, its a strep virus and the vaccination’s efficacy is questionable at even twice a year.
So, back to matching this young lady with the horse of her dreams and a horse with a human of her dreams!
Thx! Shannon
I am pretty convinced this must be joanne or jimi..simply because you’re a complete freaking DUMB ASS!!!!!!
Apple was adopted to a lady HERE IN WASHINGTON…she never set foot in california since SOS listed her. She had been at SOS for well over 6 months & did nothing but thrive. Don’t you have something else to do? Also I see the Collette is chirping in your ear regarding hank & him having strangles & dying. He came off the feedlot in OCTOBER…was SPONSORED by SOS & did RECOVER from strangles. He colic’d in January & was put down on the advice of the vet – it had nothing to do with strangles.
actually you are talking out of turn about the race barn fugly..i have read all the different blogs and message boards and i have seen the emails between the barn and sos when they first contacted the tb owners and in no way did it happen that way.i would bet a million dollars on it. if you talk to other trainers they will tell you that barn never gets rid of their horses unless they are claimed. Their stallion set a record at turf paradise for the phoenix gold cup and he is not being stood as a stallion but lives in the owner’s backyard in western washington as a pet. so if these people are as bad as some people make them out to be why don’t they ship all their old broodmares that they are trying to find homes for ??? look at their website, their is quiet a few that could bring a pretty penny by the pound yet they are sitting out in fields eating.also if you call dept. of ag for washington state you will talk to someone that will tell you those horses were hauled to auction by someone other then the owners or trainer and those people still have not been located..many people on another message board have called and asked about this situation and have posted it on other boards for everyone to see so you should try doing that before making public accusations..and per Shawna’s own words her and kyle helped stand apple up to load her in the horse trailer….can you say infectious disease?? she just had a youngster die from something similar, which she had her vet diagnose over a phone call and never come see the horse, nor did she do a necropsy to make sure non of her breeding stock QHs or other rescues were at risk..also has she reported any of these strangle outbreaks or possible diseases to washington state to be investigated?? it is law that she does do that..take your blinders off fugly..Shawna worked for CBER and now she runs a rescue..lol…hmmm makes you think…oh yes and dave herriman her so called kill buyer does not ship to slaughter as per davenport auctions and dept. of ag, so gee wonder why he buys horses??
1. I read all the e-mails. Do you think you are the only one who gets e-mails? That Jimmie person was busted fair and square having leased her horses out to a guy who shipped them to kill. Whether that was at her instructions, and she was just pissed off she got caught, or whether she failed to follow up on the whereabouts of her own horses, I don’t know. But it was just like a scene from the Fugly blog – someone got outed, then they got pissed, then they went on a smear campaign.
2. I am not familiar with any infectious disease that affects balance. Usually it is EPM or the horse has a tumor on its spine or something like that. Horses with strangles walk and load just fine. I really don’t even have any idea what you are talking about at this point.
3. Shawna “worked” for CBER? Really? Show me a paycheck! Shawna was stupid enough to believe in $am for a while, AS MOST OF US WERE, MYSELF INCLUDED, and make the MISTAKE of volunteering for them short-term until she realized what a scam it was. $am has conned many, many, many people. I can hardly hold it against other people when I fell for it myself at one time.
4. I don’t know of a single barn that “reports” it has strangles to some government agency, and I could name several show barns and breeders who’ve had it in the past year. You just isolate the horse so it doesn’t spread and treat the horse. It’s not EIA.
Really, it’s pretty obvious from the misinformation contained in your posts that you are a friend/fan of Jimmie’s who is intent on spreading the SOS smear campaign and of course you can do that but you will not do it here. You’ve had your say and I’m done with this line of discussion now. Go have your cow in someone else’s field.
Sigh, You are right again! Strangles is not a reportable disease. Imagine that! In fact, it is a prevalent disease, quite transmissible, and one for which hygiene and quarantine procedures are important. However, reportable???? NO!
Well if there are many barns out there with strangles, maybe they should all take a look at what infectious diseases are required by law to be reported by the state veterinarian. While you do not know of any diseases effecting balance does not mean there is not anyv.Maybe in your spare time you should research west nile virus symptoms. There are quiet a few more,If you care to educate yourself before making an uneducated statement.
Maybe in your spare time, you should go back to high school and see if you can pass English this time.
I would not call other people uneducated if I myself was unable to discern when to use “effected” or “affected.”
Just a helpful hint!
Well maybe you should go back to school. Either word “Affect or Effect’” can apply in this conversation..LOL..
affect – definition of affect by the Free Online …af·fect 1 (-f kt) tr.v. af·fect·ed, af·fect·ing, af·fects. 1. To have an influence on or effect a change in: Inflation affects the buying power of the dollar.
effect – definition of effect by the Free Online …ef·fect (-f kt) n. 1. Something brought about by a cause or agent; a result. 2. The power to produce an outcome or achieve a result; influence: The drug had an immediate effect on …
ROTFL. Uh, no, it can’t.
The definition is not the point. I’m talking about the proper USAGE of the word, which you missed by a mile.
http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/affect-versus-effect.aspx
The reportable side of strangles is interesting – in the UK it is a reportable disease which will cause the entire yard to be shut down until the yard is clear.
I would be more than happy to supply all of the email exchange between the so called barn manager & SOS. Its about time everyone knows what piles of crap some people are. Many are Sam fans & a few are disgruntled drama queens that didn’t get the attention they thought they deserved.
Curlies are a coat breed, not unlike a color breed. (And yes I know I’ll get flamed for this) I think a fugly blog on them could be beneficial. I own Curlies but it has not been easy. The breed does benefit from cross breeding, but it’s often done poorly.
This is REALLY off topic, but i had this idea the other day. I was watching the Tyra show and she had a thing about those little toddlers who do the beautty pagents (Toddlers in Tiaras or something like that). She was talking about how those little tiny kids get thrust into this industry without a good foundation of morals (i mean, they’re olny like 2 when they start).
And I started thinking about how that kind of relates to the showing world. I mean how many tiny little kids have you seen up on big show horses so they mothers can live vicariously through them? Granted most kids love it, but I know I’ve seen quite a few who were only taught to show the horse and win. They weren’t taught to appreciate the horse as an animal or a friend.
So Fugly, if you felt like doing a post on that, i think it would be really interesting
I think it’s a very good point. I hate watching the little ones yank and yank and yank. You know it is what they learned from watching their trainer or parent. No one has ever told them how much it hurts the horse.
Does anyone know anything else about this in Kansas? 20 dead horses, no names, no charges filed, just concern about the dead animals being offensive and contaminating the water. Reading between the lines it looks like a neglect case but doesn’t seem like anything is being done.
http://www.kctv5.com/news/22866188/detail.html?taf=kan
Yes, we saw that.
“It was not humane how they were just leaving them lay to rot,” Hamilton said.
Um, how about being humane before they got in that condition? Too late to be humane, dumbass.
Trolling CL again! Sorry. But is anyone interested in a skinny, downhill TW frankenhorse that has quite possibly the oddest hip/back leg combo ever seen on a horse? Before you say no, the nice gentleman selling her says she has been ridden by a woman so he thinks ANYONE can ride her! Visit the 21st century much, buddy?
http://louisville.craigslist.org/grd/1640580810.html
Oh yes and names. Someone just posted on the other board that leroy was adopted out with strangles from sos, Hank died of strangles while at SOS ( he had an adopter), and the new big headed thing was said to have been sick on sos website for the reason they did not test ride her . Maybe the head is so big cause it is swollen from strangles..
OK. So you have one allegation that a horse was adopted out with strangles, and two cases of strangles while at SOS. I do not believe anyone has represented that horses from auctions and feedlots are NOT very likely to have strangles. It is fairly common for them to die of it, especially when they are in debilitated condition – there’s some particularly virulent strain in Eastern Washington that killed a lot of CBER horses.
SOS has always offered quarantine for 30 days and advised that lot horses are likely to have illnesses. I have always told people that auction horses need to be quarantined – you can see that in my article on buying auction horses on the main page of the horsereunions.com site. SOS used to mandate quarantine on site and when they did, people complained about the cost (normal full care board cost). So now their policy is that you can take one home if you have a place to quarantine it, but once that happens, obviously SOS cannot control whether or not you jump the gun and put it in with your other horses too fast. Strangles can incubate for a few weeks before popping up, and that’s why you QT. When I brought Petersburg Knight home from Enumclaw, he sat up in an isolated paddock for 2 weeks and did not go near another horse once. Same with Lucy. This is common sense and it’s what you are advised to do. If a horse does have strangles, that way, you can treat him without him making everybody else sick.
Bottom line, if someone does not want to risk an illness like strangles, it is best to simply buy a horse rather than get one that has been in a feedlot or an auction at any time in its recent history – and I’ve said that many times before. Those horses are high risk horses in a lot of way. A lot of things can be wrong with them. If you want to take that on, great, if you don’t, buy from a private seller. Ultimately as the buyer, you have all of the choices. If you are a donor, and want fewer questions about how your money is used, stop giving to rescues too far away for you to check out. Go give to a rescue that is nearby so that you can check things out and see if they are to your liking. But again, I have not seen any situation where I believe SOS knowingly misrepresented the condition of a horse (very unlike CBER), nor are they marking up the way CBER did, nor do they refuse to take horses back the way CBER did. They have taken horses back time and again, and sometimes driven hours at their own expense to do it.
Ah, yes.. another ‘group of friends’ decides to apply for nonprofit status and become a rescue. They are posting photos of the gelding they took in about two weeks ago, and they need several thousand dollars for his surgery. Now, I’m no vet – but the photos sure look like pythiosis to me. I hope they are getting LOTS of responses to their craigslist ad – the educational kind, not the ‘nanner-nanner’ abusive kind. My take: These people aren’t setting out to take people’s money as a scam. They’re just pitifully ignorant.
http://WWW.YouCanHelpTheHorses.com
The craigslist ad:
http://ocala.craigslist.org/grd/1653680349.html
*googles pythiosis* Gross. Makes me glad I live in Canada…
I made the mistake of looking it up too. My husband said to tell you all thanks for the nightmares he’s going to have to wake me out of
Gag, ewwwww…. I hope they not jus tusing him as a “poster pony” for money and that it actually goes towards his recovery and not for other things.
Not sure what the whole fuss re: Strangles is. Of course horses in community settings are exposed. Not just feedlots, auctions, and rescues – horse shows, competitive trail rides, and breeding barns all have to worry about this. We vax twice a year except during show season, when we do it monthly – because I have an aged rescue that probably wouldn’t survive a bout.
Many of the horses in our current barn have had strangles before, usually as a result of a large show they visited. It miserable, and the abscesses are disgusting, but even with vaccination it’s possible to contract it.
One of the things I like best about this blog is that while Fugly is free with her opinion, she has ALWAYS encouraged everyone to think for THEMSELVES. That means, in my world “Trust, but verify” and maintain a skepticism until claims are verified.
I have been able to verify most of the incidents behind Fuglys statements, but I can’t seem to verify yours.
Which incidents are you referring to that you want to verify madchickenlittle ?
I was looking for references about SOS that were negative, as you purport in a couple of your entries. Also adoptions with Strangles infected horses (or any other infection, for that matter.) I find, in general, that people get pissy when stuff like that happens, but I can’t seem to find anything on this on the usual message boards, etc.
You state:
“.And if i remember correctly during the CBER days Shawna of SOS was a stoic supporter of SAM and CBER.So i guess once she realized how she could run a scam better then cber she struck out on her own.so the only stick up someone’s butt is the one up yours when yuou blindly support things without looking in to them.Put an article up about sos and see how many people have stories to tell about this local rescue and the way she keeps her name connected to cber”
Not seeing this. I Googled Shawna, SOS, and CBER and I am not seeing what you are talking about. Trolled a few boards, and nothing. Generally, as I said, someone, somewhere gets upset and posts photos with actual evidence of wrongdoing. Backed up by, say, some witnesses. And honestly, I think I would need to see a pattern of problems, because any rescue can have a problem. Maybe one horse did have strangles, or an undiagnosed unsoundness, but c’mon – these are HORSES. How many times has a perfectly sound, healthy horse been left, checked on a few hours later and found to be three-legged lame or in a huge colic? I would like to see a history of repeated offenses, even if they aren’t the same ongoing offense. Maybe six out of ten horses have an undisclosed problem? Show me details – with evidence. I am not interested in your undocumented hysteria.
You can post links, but I think it’s only fair to warn you that I have completely written you off as a nutjob with a vendetta and poor grammar.
Fugley: Sent you some photos. They are a couple years old and can be udated if there is an interest. We are a bit far, but the quality is there and the mare is a solid 15.1 and broke and has bveen in the show ring. She has also been ridden with western tack.
Thanks – I will look!
We have been lucky with reference to any starangles in our area. Since it is airborune we would get it from the trainer next door, but he is fairly decent about what he brings into his place and they show all over. We Never, ever let our horses drink from community tanks at shows or anywhere else. we haul our own water and own buckets. That has helped in the past.
Sorry about the typos, it has been a really long week
OT, but what the heck is going on with this poor horse? He looks like 3 horses put together….
http://dayton.craigslist.org/grd/1654053709.html
Sir-Mix-A-Lot sez that baby got back!
And of course, nothing like an HYPP H/H horse for a beginner! Only $1800!!!!
http://dayton.craigslist.org/grd/1650518275.html
Just total madness on Dayton CL for the last few days….
*sigh*
He won you $10K in incentive fund money but you can’t retire him out?
Wow, they STILL? haven’t sold that gelding yet? *snork* I’ve been watching that ad for a while now…
My Blog Post on him
He started out last december priced at $8500 – now he’s down to $1800.
I profiled him on a blog post about HYPP, along with a few other horses. While I wish he could find a new good home, it certainly is starting to look like the owners are getting desperate.
If they’re showing halter on THAT level, they’re not financially desperate. Like I say, he’s put plenty of cash and prizes in their pockets…why not keep him? If he’s never had an attack, as they claim, then they shouldn’t have any hesitation about breaking him and riding him themselves.
Good to see that the HYPP positive is becoming like a salvage title – a warning sign to buyers.
Oooooh! Snap! I will never understand why people come on this forum trying to pick a fight with you. I also wonder how many of them are content to hide behind a computer screen and a username but would never have the guts to argue with you in person. Nonetheless, I do find it entertaining in some odd way.
So far all the people who have come up to me in person have done so in order to tell me how much they like the blog or shake my hand about outing some person who’d been annoying them for years.
Of course I would screw up my html.
The link that showcases that gelding is http://clhorseads.blogspot.com/2010/03/hypp-othetically-dangerous-or-not.html.
I thought I fixed it
You just didn’t close your tag.
Oh you did, I just sent it before I refreshed the screen and realized you had already approved/posted my comment.
While I’m certainly happy that the restaurant got closed, it didn’t make me nearly as mad as I get when I see that N/H or H/H.
I just read your blog and now I’M mad…between the Saddlebred that lives at the trailer park and the emaciated Arabian that looks like a worm factory.
Thats exactly the reason I started the blog. I couldn’t handle not being able to do SOMETHING. Eventually and hopefully I’ll be able to post an ad like the emaciated arab gelding and have a reader base that can, if temporarily, find him a new home till a better and permanent one gets found.
i’ve been looking for repeat ads for that same arab, but haven’t found one yet, so either he died, or they sold/got rid of him.
They very well might be financially well off, but they’ve been trying to sell that gelding for about 4 months now. I followed the links from the video they posted on youtube to a private website that has now been taken down, but that site didn’t portray them as anything other than a family that owned horses. What really pisses me off is they are still trying to sell him as a youth horse. I seriously doubt that they will ever consider keeping him if he doesn’t sell… he’s been on the market for too long and has had way too many price reductions. They can’t get much lower (well actually they CAN) which is really scary… but I still stand that if they don’t sell him sooner than later, he’ll end up at the local auction without papers (oh fancy that!) and some poor unsuspecting person will snap him up and get one hell of a nasty surprise.
Well, and this is overall the biggest problem with the HYPP positives. So you get your few years of halter showing. Then what? This horse is washed up at 8 years old. He’s getting too old for the halter ring, heaven knows if he’s even broke, and if he is broke, he’s a ticking time bomb. So he could either live 22 more years as an animal that no one who is familiar with HYPP is willing to use as a riding horse, or he could get sold and keel over in 2 weeks and break some kid’s heart.
At least he’s a gelding, so there won’t be any temptation to breed him. At least the disease, in his case, will die with him.
If anybody cares, the parent company of The Hump was allegedly Typhoon, which is a national restaurant chain. This is according to the articles I read, http://www.smmirror.com/MainPages/DisplayArticleDetails.asp?eid=12209 and http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=7341024. So if you wish to boycott the parent company for their grossly inappropriate sale of whale and horse meat, now you know where to avoid eating.
Good to know!
Fugs, I need to see where you got your data on The Hump. I live in LA, and I have not seen ANY articles that said the place was selling horsemeat, only whale. Please send me your source on that!
I AM glad they closed, they were breaking the law and morals of the community they are in. I am stunned they were doing that, and wonder sometimes about what kind of customer would even DARE to ASK if they serve “alternative meats”… Eww…
The original CNN article said it.
The second link in my above post from ABC says the following:
“In subsequent visits, informants were offered whale — as well as blow fish and horse meat — by a waiter, according to the affidavit.”

I have been seeing an awful lot of young QHs that say “s/he is hip high, so should get xx.xx tall”. In my experience, once they are 2 or older, the fronts, don’t usually magically catch up with the back. One of mine was, and she was always hip high, even though she grew overall, about 2 or 3 more inches. Anybody else know different or had a different experience?
Thanks.
Mine caught up between 3 and 4.
It does happen.
