Today I just feel the need to declare this…PONY DAY!
Jan 12 2010
That’s right. It’s the middle of the work week, you’re all probably as busy as I am, and who doesn’t need a little cute overload? So…POST YOUR PONIES!
Direct links ONLY please…that means no IMG tags or HTML tags…put in the address of the pic and I’ll make it show up. If it doesn’t end with .jpg or .gif, it’s not going to work. Flickr doesn’t work. Facebook doesn’t work. Use Photobucket if you don’t have anything else.
If ponies are for sale or up for adoption, feel free to state that and give a contact e-mail. I’m cool with that.
Ponies only! The cuter, the better!
<<— WANT. This pony is so cute, she almost makes me want to have children so I would have an excuse to buy her.Â
She is on Dreamhorse. Look at those EARS!
OK, let’s see your ponies and hear your pony stories — whatcha got? This is the time of year where even the most eeevil pony is adorable, with cute little ear tips sticking out of the shag like horns.Â
And if you’re looking for a new little project this year, check out this yearling filly at Shiloh Acres, below!

I have no photos, so I’m going to swallow my pride and post the worst video of me riding ever. I’d say look at the pony, not my equitation, but I’m sure you’ll be too busy laughing.
(He’s not mine…I borrowed him because he’s SHORT and I needed to get off and on quickly
)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGPZ6oYuGLE
50% Welsh. 50% Haflinger. 100% attitude.
That’s pretty funny, Jennifer ….
BTW: when YouTube gave its “suggested” videos after viewing yours, I usually ignore them but decided to click on this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgG_Gwy7Ysg&NR=1
It is the most amazing Palomino spanish horse (andalusian or lusitano?) in a bull fight. This is, with no exaggeration, the most athletic horse I have ever seen. Holy cow, the moves this horse makes looks like a champion cutting horse. And the sidepass at a canter at a dead run — how does the horse not snap a leg in half or kick itself?? It’s obvious in parts of the video that he’s focused on the bull and dead serious about what he’s doing (1:05 is the best)… other times I wonder if the horse is scared shitless.
Do not watch the video if you don’t want to see the guy putting those sharp sticks in the bulls back … I’m making no comments about bull fights in general. But you’ve gotta see this horse if you can take the bull fight part.
Yeah.
By the way
A. I CAN ride better than that I did that run with one stirrup.
B. He did not actually run off with me. I yelled ‘Go go go’ expecting a fast trot or maybe a sedate canter…and he put on the afterburners.
C. I did not run over the poor judge, as close as it looked.
D. No, he does not have a tail
However, that doesn’t look bad for a pony who was once dumped as being ‘dangerous’. He was apparently being used by a carriage horse company and kept taking off. We reckon he just wanted more excitement in his life than plodding around pulling a cart
.
I’m going to try this again, obviously I didn’t do the photo correctly.

I know this is confusing, but photobucket links with “i” in the first part can be linked to, photobucket links with “s” in the first part cannot. Sorry! I know it’s a pain.
Thank you! I could’t figure out what I’d done wrong. So here then (I’m quite determined to get it right, ahem). I’ve been loving looking at all the pictures.
So, to recap, this is Peanut who is 11 hands and who is menacing my nearly 16 hand draft horse colt. I bought peanut when his owner passed away, so the amusing foal photo is (I think) her son.
No ponies to share, but couldn’t help ICHC -ing Staje’s Picture….hope it works
thanks all for the cute-ness!
Pure Awesomeness!
Here’s a picture of our awesome little school pony Cookie (or the Cookie Monster as he is also known:). He’s a 12 hh POA who has managed to dump everyone at one point or another, has adorable auto changes, has jumped up to 3′, and loves having his face hugged.
http://s668.photobucket.com/albums/vv41/tudorgal/Horses%202009/?action=view¤t=n636002270_378636_9292.jpg
This pony isn’t mine, but belongs to my roommate Jessica and is the most adorable Half-Arab ever. She’s 15 years old, Jess has had her for 11 years, and they are very competitive in the 3′ jumpers against all the big horses!
http://s668.photobucket.com/albums/vv41/tudorgal/bchja%202009/?action=view¤t=bchja2009045.jpg
This mare looks very familiar. I had a half Arab half Welsh flea bitten grey that my mother sold around 11-12 years ago. Her name was Amanda (Mandy for short). I’ve been looking for her just to see how she’s doing. She was my barrel horse and I loved her dearly. Any possibilities this girl could have been purchased near Sacramento, CA?
I hope you find your pony! I’m sorry, but Jess bought Misty in Grande Prairie, Alberta from a local breeder.
Aww Cookie is a darling.
Is that you Iris? It’s Sheena. Small world, hehe.
Haha, yep it’s Iris… glad to see there are more BC fugly stalkers out there (what else to do at work?)!
My adorable 23 year old pony, who has four white socks, a white face, and two different colored eyes. Plus, in her younger days, she jumped the 4′ divisions with an old owner, and would probably still be happy to do so today. I love her to pieces! She never did any eventing before I got her, but within a year she was a pro.
This is her with the girl that leases her now. They do beginner eventing together and are a great pair! <3 <3
I should mention – I know my position in the first photo is terrifyingly horrible – I have since moved to another trainer who has really helped me improve my position and understand how it influences the horse – leading to drastic improvement:) The ponies are happy about it. My jumping position now isn’t perfect, but I hope it doesn’t look like *that*!
Would you ever be interested in doing something on the topic of mental stress in horses? You know, horses that are overworked, not given enough turnout, etc. The riding facility my friends are at has a tendacy to overwork their best horses, and as a result, many horses that came there as total sweethearts are now sour, resentful horses that pick up bad habits in order to avoid lessons (rearing, bolting). Some of them will need rehab before being happy, rider-friendly mounts again. I think it’s a hugely important topic, for financial reasons (who’s going to buyed an angry, crabbed horse?), and for humane reasons.
Taken just this morning, my two “accidental” ponies (both were supposed to be taller). Dobby (the bay on the left) is a mustang. I took him from a lady who was going to return him to the BLM holding facility because he was a cryp. He has since been gelded and is just the sweetest boy! Little Calliope (on the right) was sired by a VERY stout 16+H stud. Super sweet little girl though! Both are coming 5 and stand 13H.
Here is my little 42″ Miniature spotted pony. He is called Teddy and is a rescue. He had very bad laminitis and was going to be PTS when i took him on earlier this year. He loves life and is such a happy boy, just needs extra close monitoring to ensure he doesnt get too fat or too much grass etc.
I love the bottom picture (literally giving my TB Cruise the run around LOL)
Dear GOD I have PONY FEAVER!!!! It’s like when a woman that has a lot and I mean a lot of kids and just can’t afford another one sees a baby and just has to have one…I can’t afford another mouth to feed but dear GOD if I could I would so have a pony like now!!!
Really enjoying this thread although I’ve never had the opportunity to ride ponies. I am 5′ 10″, started riding again @ a year ago. I just turned 50, and have some degenerative changes in my left hip. After a year of climbing on and off tall TBs and draft crosses 1-2x a week, and inevitably, falling off the biggest one (17.3 draft/TB cross) last fall, I’m ready to try a short stocky horse! I’m glad people here are enjoying their Fjords so much–I’ve heard so many good things about the breed and Haflingers, too, that I will definitely look for them when it’s time to get my own.
Can’t say enough for being close to the ground. I’m all about short horses these days. I was afraid I’d look like a gorilla on a Shetland when I started looking at Haflingers. But my boy is a mega draft type. I”m long legged and he fills in my leg nicely. Shorty and I are in a pic on the first page of comments.
My boy isn’t sweet, he’s much too ornery for sweet. I’ve met others that are very sweet, so it’s individual.
Do have a look at them if you can.
Here is my 12.3 Fjord x Quarter horse barrel pony buffy. I train ponies for barrels & speed events.. since im a whoppin’ 5 foot. My younger sister is in the pictures, she’s alot taller than me.
My soul mate horse. Makita, reg Arab paint cross. She just a hair under 14.2. I bought her at as auction as a 3 year old 7 years ago. You know how sometimes you see a horse and somehow you know that that horse is the perfect horse for you. Well that’s what happened. I think that half the people at the auction felt the same, well $1150 later which was a lot for an auction horse at that time, I was the proud owner of a skitso barely halter broke mare. She was a lot more work then any other horse I have worked with before, I think that is why I love her so much. She was very nervous and high strung. She’s going good now. She loves jumping…although she is a bit of a chicken when it comes to scary jumps.
Next is Lady. 36 inch 12 year old mini. She had foundered and her owner just left her in his field, no vet or farrier care. At the time I was actually doing a 6 week farrier course so I decided to try to help her. She was obese so the first thing was getting her on a diet. With weekly trims, barefoot style not Stresses (I don’t agree with the aggressive methods) just lowering the heals, rolling the toe and trying to achieve a ground parallel coffin bone, she started getting better. She had her ups and down but the down became less common. After 4 months of care with tears in my eyes I saw her canter for the first time. It was a sore canter but still a canter. Today 4 years later she has a forever home with me and is 100% sound as long as her feet and diet are maintained.
Next is Chico, my sister’s pony. He a Clyde welsh cross (spoke to the person who bred him, he didn’t think there would be a problem with his welsh stud being out with his Clyde mare, guess they found a bank or something!) He’s a 13.3 bundle of attitude. Built like a mini Clyde, he has huge feet, size 2 shoes. He funny looking but I think he’s pretty cute. We got him as a confidence builder for my sister. He’s 11 years old, was started as a 3 year old, did some trail riding as a 4 year old then was sold at age 5. The woman who bought him just let him sit until age 11 when we got him. I don’t think he had been wormed since he was 5. The first picture is about 2 weeks after we got him. He had been worked and floated. Second was at the lake…so much fun! Next, my sisters first gymkhana. Looking so much better in the last 2 pictures.
Pictures didn’t work errrg!
Pictures in the order they were supposed to be in…hope it works

Horses ~ Ponies ~ I love em all!
Here’s my newest addition, my “BAYby” ~ Ky, She is out of a 2 year old 14 hh QH that I rescued Jan. 09 (now 3 yr old) When I found out she was pregnant I was nervous about her age and what to expect since she had been ran through auction and rescued by Norcal Equine Rescue where I got her from. Long story short – she foaled this gorgeous little filly Sept. 4, 09! It must have been my lucky day to get such a gorgeous filly. I’m not sure what height she will top out at – hopefully she reaches 14.3 hh.
Here is Ky (short for Cayenne, named after her color), she just turned 4 months old.

SOOOO CUTE!
This is Telynau William. He is a yearling. He is thoroughbred and welsh, his mother was my AA Hunter for years. I put him on the market and had pleanty of interest, but then my brother had a baby girl so I took him off the market. I love him and it was a good excuse to keep him

Here is my very horse loving 2 year old daughter. This summer she did her first show series and LOVED it, I think we created a monster!
First is her kissing our POA HoneyStar. Then there is a picture of her at her second show on our 4 year old Welsh-X CeeCee “MysteryDate” (who is for sale), and the following is a picture of CeeCee.
LOVE all the pictures, great idea!!

If someone in the greater Denver area is looking for a spotted pony-sized ride, I saw this one on CL and he looks darned cute:
http://denver.craigslist.org/grd/1548369707.html
(I don’t know the horse or the seller, just happened to think he fit in with the cuties in this thread and maybe he can get a new home. At least the seller is trying to find him one *before* he gets skinny.)
I’ve never had the time or money to a horse of my own but whereever I ride I always seem paired with the ponies. Makes sense since I’m only 5′.
The pony I rode for years at my old stable. A 13.2/3 POA gelding, was in his late teens by the time I met him, maybe early 20′s. When he was younger he used to be shown in Pony Hunters in Virginia before ending up (I believe they donated him) at a local rescue where the stable owner adopted him. If you were sure of it, he’d probably go over anything. However, I had no confidence after riding a green-ish OTTB for a while so Dotz sent me to the ER once (just a facial injury, I still have some scar tissue in my lip 6 years later) and he was a pain in the rear to catch, laid me out for two days when he kicked me in the hip. He usually would race around like a rocket in the ring, but if you set him up right, he’d go in a lovely jog. Was great on the hunt field too (just *very* energetic). I just loved him. It was especially in high school. When I started dating a guy, I’d bring him out to the barn to watch a lesson. Without fail each wigged slightly when Dotz would put on the break before a jump and then leap over it and go tearing off. I had fun with it once I calmed down a bit.
The first picture is from a local schooling series in ’04 and the latter is right before a lesson in ’03 or ’04.
There were a couple ponies after him but I don’t have that great of pictures of any.
And this past two summers were Reese, an 8yrold 14hh WelshxQH cross mare with a serious attitude.
Used to be shown on the east coast before her rider outgrew her, then was pasture pony before I had time to get out to her owner’s and play with her. She’s too lazy to make any real fuss, as seen in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQ68hCqadew
(Please ignore my hands, ick and ignore my mother, my “brother” and the pony’s owner’s comments, neither have a ton of experience or confidence with horses. My “brother” used to show years ago so he got the passing and whatnot.)
I hope the links and coding work
He’s a pony by our standards (Netherlands) so that counts, right?
Rowan playing with cows

Rowan in his jammies

Rowan being his busy-body self:
Oh yeah – he’s a Welsh Cob. And his favourite trick is to defy gravity:

And I love his cheeky expression and his little pony ears
I have ponies too but I have to go home to send them to fugs. I have on that looked preggers too, to the point of having a vet out to check. I wormed her, and cut down her food but it did not help. What finally helped is doing a power pack worming protocol. Now she looks normal.
My first post here, but I have been reading for a LONG time. This is my rescue pony “Half-pint”, aka midget, rascal, pumkin, trouble (you name it). I’ve had him a year and a half and he was skin and bones, mistreated, etc when he was saved. I got him as he needed a home and I could provide that. He had some trust issues, but has gotten over that (still a little touchy on the back feet). He now follows me like a puppy dog seeking attention and kisses. Being older with no little ones, I thought maybe to get a cart and teach him to drive…great intentions, but too much work and not enough horse/pony time here. I would give him up ONLY if it was to a forever home with someone who did have time and love him as I do. In this picture, I just bought the cute saddle off eBay and was trying it on with long reins to start some ground driving. Also replaced the curb with a nice snaffle. He is a stinker, but brings me a LOT of joy!
Let’s hope I can get this fuzzy phone picture to attach:
This is my first pony, and an accidental one. Got him from a woman who wanted one of my foals, who had also taken him on trade, from traders who had picked him up at auction. The auction buyers advertise their farrier services online, but when this little guy arrived at my house, his back hooves were eight inches longer than where they should have stopped. The lady I got him from agreed to take him on trade because the “farriers” had threatened to knock him out and take a saws-all to his feet. They had folded in on themselves, and the right hind was so bad the little guy was almost walking on his fetlock joint. Well 14 months later, after lots of vet and farrier care, he has normal shaped hooves, only a bit of rotation, no more separation, and a white line that is now actually white. Other than a little lingering arthritis in his hip from the right hind being turned under so bad, he’s good as new. He’s a tiny 10.2hh, and came broke to ride and, we’ve since discovered, drive. I wish I had a before shot of his feet, but here’s an almost completed after shot – he had two additional trims since then before getting a clean bill of hoof from the farrier.
Well, I’ll attempt to get a picture on here! This is Bronson – Technically a pony I guess, though he’s registered AQHA, bred to be a cowhorse. He’s 14 hands and about as wide as he is tall. He is one of the nicest horses I’ve ever had the pleasure of riding. However, I barrel race and he has no intention of being a barrel horse, so he’s looking for a home that will be a better fit. Show him a cow and he’s a happy guy. Trail ride anywhere and through anything, but he’s too laid back to make a barrel racer. Love the shorter guys even though I’m 5’8″. Not as limber as I once was, and they’re definitely easier to get on and off. The first pic is his summer color. The second is in his winter coat.

I rescued this little Shetland from a family member. Yes, that’s right. We intervened when one of our own screwed up. I am clicker training her to do tricks as our 16 month old son is waaay too young to ride her and she needs a job. Off to the nursing homes we shall go! She’s only 11 years old so she has at least two more kids to raise.
(FHOTD in: I have to giggle. I don’t think you linked to the right one!)
Hehe… he’s no pony but he sure is cute!!
Wow those Florida ponies have some attitude!
LOL!! Well you did mention that most ponies have a set of horns sticking out under cute ears. I guess this one couldn’t hide the horns so well.
This is Andre, all 38″ of him.
I suppose most of our “horses” can be considered ponies. All of them stand around 14 hands to 14.2 hands.

Stormy as previously posted, stood around 13 hands at 3 years. This was when he was 2.
Emmet, my cousin’s pony was 14.1 and the BEST beginner’s pony. He would not trot unless you really pushed him. He is 21 years old and has mild arthritis which is completely controlled with supplements and shows no signs.
Ruby, as posted before is 20 and a pep. She’s 14 hands. This is after she was not ridden for awhile. Her back does even out a little more when she gets her exercise and a grazing muzzle in the summer.
Moon is a foundation quarter horse and is 14.1 hands. At 12 years old she has had a hard life because we got her with arthritis and the starts of navicular. Cytek shoeing keeps her sound. She’s only used for light trail riding, but $75 every 7 weeks is worth keeping her comfortable. (Foundation lines = Small feet. Who could have guessed?)
Of course my favorite Cassie is 14.2 hands so could qualify as pony. And with this attitude… I like to call her a pony. I just spent a half hour brushing her out… I just put the halter on the appy mare when she started this and couldn’t resist a picture.
I don’t think a blog entry has ever made me smile so much. Super, super cute and fun, every single pony. Thank you for sharing your pics!
Oh! I hope it’s not too late to post pictures of our ponies. Do minis count? I just had to throw these in of this little guy who has captured my heart. The horse in the stall is my other pony, Gemla. He is a Leopard POA.
Awww!! Look at that face and the fluff! That pony would hate me, I’d give him constant snuggles
Gem was very upset that he did not get his photo in here and Eddie did, so here he is in all his beautifulness.
HAHAHAHA! I am having issues with photobucket, can you tell? Yes the second picture is Maggie the pony. The first is out Dexter bull, Randy. Randy’s ears are kind of cute and fuzzy, though and you can’t beat those little curls on his head, hehehe!
Ponies RULE!
Adults can ride ponies too.
I rescued a pony in September ’09, she was a sweet little black tobiano. She stood at 13.1 at 17 years and once she got some weight on I was starting to ride her. Unfortunately she was abused in her past and it was too much for her to bare to be messed with. In August I re-homed her with a lovely older couple who just wanted a companion for their older Arab – she now will live out her days eating bermuda grass pasture and playing with a goofy Arab

(FHOTD in: Whatever you did, it wasn’t just put in the address of the image like I told you to
You can’t img link, only I can.)
Would help if I got my dates right, lol! I meant in October I re-homed her.
My bad, no site I’ve ever gone on actually shows a picture through direct link, I’ve never used this blog site before though.

Day 1:

At her new home:
Here is my five year old daughter on her pony, Little Black, just before their first leadline class last summer. We were told he’s a Welsh/Hackney cross but someone else said maybe he’s Hackney/Shetland. 11 hh and about 14 years old. His adorable personality makes up for his less-than-beautiful head – most of the time.
Please ignore his poor bobbed tail – my TB mare decided to chew it off and we had to even it up! He’s being sent out for driving refresher training and we’ll put him to cart this year – wahoo!
We raise and train American Shetland ponies professionally, so we LOVE ponies! Here is a client owned shetland that would look sharp under saddle. He’s for sale if anyone is interested!
aww! i love all the pictures! I have never had a pony myself, just QH and Paints, but they look like fun!
I have a wonderful pony named Whinnifred. I adore her she is a lot of fun to play with–she is so smart!

and this is Cowboy
Were not sure what breed Pie is, some ppl think she has hackney in her because she has lots of knee action, but were not sure. She’s about 12.2 and is 5 years old, she’s incrediable sweet and laid back
Cowboy is just a little paint horse, he’s only 4 and is 13.2 hhs. He’s a big baby and loves attenion he’s also the laziest pony I know. These ponies are both green broke still, Pie being the more advanced but hopefully one day there good kids contesting ponies.
Heres my ponies!
I loves the old grumpy man! I did 4H with him, barrels, poles, jumping, western pleasure, racking, everything! He is beautifully gaited, but also will jog and lope for WP classes. He LOVES kids, and is excellent with them! He can be HOT and firey with me if its a fun day. He is a superb trail mount! His father was an excellent Fino horse, and his grandfather was World champ many years in a row, and one of the top 10 stallions in his showing career.
Cordoba Sabado, (aka Doby) registered Paso Fino gelding, 14 this year, 14.1hh. Started leasing him from some friends when he was 4, and have owned him for 3 years now. He was my first horse
(in route to moving them to a new property, stopped at the house for lunch, and let them mow the back lawn)

This is Novio del Mistco, (aka Novio) hes a registered Paso Fino and is still a stallion. I havent measured him, but Id guess between 14.2-14.3hh He will be 5 this year. I had planned on finishing his training, and showing him his 3yr old year, but found out we were expecting! So, he is now almost 5 and still only has about 20 rides on him. He is sooo laid back, even my father can ride him (i usually put dad on the 25yr old babysitters). He has a naturally LONG and THICK main and tail… but as a 2yr old, another colt he was out with chewed his main and tail in half, and he keeps his main crappy looking because of the round bale feeder. I am hoping this year to finish his training finally and maybe show some next year. Oh, and his grandfather is the only World Champion *pinto Paso Fino.

These are my POA’s. Mia is a 25 year old mom, and Guppy is her 2 year old son. We rescued them from a Broker who was selling them to a kill buyer. They are now very happy and healthy!
Here is my Welsh Cob, Bombay. He was a super sweet, super strong and sporty friend.
