Here’s her Google profile – her name is Amber Hyder. Here is another. Hon, GED is not a school. Really. And if you have “to” many dogs to count, you have too many dogs. They have a cure for that now – it’s called spaying and neutering. Really!
Well, it turns out SuperMom there is out masquerading as a rescuer and begging for donations.  Here’s the thread. OF COURSE. God forbid you get a damn job! Why not just suck money out of everybody else like a leech? And hey, the best way to get money is to use a dramatically injured animal, right? A mare that was attacked by dogs that you claim to have just acquired in that condition, but I believe that like I believe Santa is coming down my chimney three days from now. After all, where is the pack of hungry dogs? Oh yeah, your house…
Here is the whole tale from a lady who tried to save her.   “This mare got out but that lady still has more horses just as thin AND a dozen or so skinny dogs still on her property. I have not slept in days working on getting this terrorist holding the mare hostage to let her go. At one point she almost sold me the mare for $300 then upped it to $500, then it was a thousand as of Monday.” Man, that sounds familiar. There is nothing lower than the person who KNOWS you desperately NEED to get the horse and save it, and so they see it as a perfect opportunity to extort money from you.
Fortunately, the mare is safely recovering at Beauty’s Haven Equine Rescue. Here is their page for her. They have done a great job treating her severe, infected wounds and of course they are going to have whopper vet bills. If you still have a few charity dollars you did not yet send this holiday season, I am sure they would greatly appreciate a donation.
You know, it’s just common sense. When you have five kids and you didn’t finish high school, it is a VERY safe bet to say that unless you have (a) won the lottery or (b) invented post-it notes, you should not be rescuing anything! Sheesh! FIVE KIDS! Support your five kids! Focus on them. Be a good example for them by going back to school and getting a better job. (If you can possibly shut off the computer and stop spending your entire day flaming the people who would like to help your starving animals…I know, I know, that’s a toughie…) Your kids do not need to see an earless mare staggering around the back yard after your dogs tried to eat her (shit, they were probably hungry!) — they’re probably going to be traumatized for life, SuperMom.
Disgusting story – but kudos to the folks who got that mare out. Now, about that black and white dog…let’s hope that Dixie County Animal Control follows up on the train wreck that is Ms. Hyder’s backyard!

I’m so glad you posted this… Another blog I follow mentioned it a few days ago and I was absolutely disgusted by the pictures. I’ve seen a lot of horrible, human-inflicted things in my time but there is a special place in hell for people like this Amber person.

I had no idea this woman had already been featured on FHOTD for something else but it certainly doesn’t surprise me.
Kudos to the blogger “flyinghorse2″ who stepped up to the plate for this poor mare and the rescue that is treating her. I can only hope the others still on that property get help soon, too.

I hate to make you sicker, but actually the ear was not torn off in the attack. It actually rotted out so bad during the time that elapsed before she was given medical attention that it had to be removed. Thanx for your well wishes but I am not the only one who stepped in. I’m just the one who wanted to help, drove to the headquarters of nowhere and saw the mare. Amber was begging for donations and sent pictures that made me sick. I didn’t know Amber and I didn’t know if this was a scam but if it were true I wanted to donate and help get a vet there. After driving 2 hours to her house and seeing that this mare actually existed is when I started ringing bells, trying to buy the mare, sending the info out to whomever would listen when my attempts to purchase the mare went to the levels of negotiating a ‘price’ or ransom as I referred to it.
As for answering to God when I get to the pearly gates and he asks me about the one earred mare as TDF aka Factfinder pointed out? I can honestly say I didn’t do everything but I did everything that I could do. It seems that factfinder wants to so vehemently shovel crap on me but at the same time separate herself from Amber Hyder in a rather religious way. I may have hidden my disgust at the conditions of the animals while I was at Amber’s but that was only because I was trying to get the mare out to safety. No one, including Kathy here on her blog has done anything but help raise awareness further to this one mare and a rescue that would rather not have another hideous disfigurement case that even the law cannot do anything about. They have several nice horses that are done being rehabbed that they are desparately trying to find homes for but right now, no one is really looking. So what of this one earred mare? How will she find a home when rehabbed riding horses with no limitations cannot? She isn’t going to wear a bridle or halter again without some ingenious modifications. I’m just trying to put a bonnet together for her to keep flies off the ear stump and that’s been tough. There is nothing wrong with this story being posted anywhere and there is no basis for slander accusations but, TDF aka factfinder…if you want to donate to Amber to file a civil suit against me or anyone involved in this case, I say … where were your dollars when Amber was begging poor and couldn’t afford a vet?
“the words “torture,” “torment,” and “cruelty” shall be held to include every act, omission, or neglect whereby unnecessary or unjustifiable pain or suffering is caused, except when done in the interest of medical science, permitted, or allowed to continue when there is reasonable remedy or relief; and the words “owner” and “person” shall be held to include corporations, and the knowledge and acts of agents and employees of corporations in regard to animals transported, owned, employed by or in the custody of a corporation, shall be held to be the knowledge and act of such corporation. ”
This is from the Florida state cruelty statute. Why is it that the law cannot do anything about this? Failure to provide minimal care is part of almost every neglect statute. I know of a case of an owner who’s dogs attacked her two yearlings, and she did not provide vet care, until a neighbor forced her to. She is sitting in the county jail, exactly where she belongs.

I know most folks have moved on with other stories but I thought I would give a bit of an update.
Amber went to a local horse show the weekend after surrendering LadyBug. Maybe one of her lawyers paid the show fees, to proof that she does take care of certain horses that she shows to the public.
The real reason I am posting though is to tell you I saw LadyBug on Monday Jan. 4, 2010 and she is doing GREAT. That mare is so sweet and kind during all of her treatments including scrubbing, injections , teeth and feet being done she was a good horse. I wish you could see the photos of the horrible way she was twitched when the Vet and Amber were treating her ear. But those are not mine to share.
Hope 2010 proves to be a great year for horses and all animals in humans care.
Painted Heavens did take a baby from Amber’s place and let’s hope there is not another born on the property to replace it.

Oh, my god! That poor mare! I read some of the entries from the rescue and she seems like such a good girl. Why does this always seem to happen to horses that are well behaved and gentle?
Like Fugly’s said, I’m beginning to see a pattern. Poorly educated having little to no true experience with horses; breed horses for profit regardless of how bad either parents’ conformation is; and seem to have a butt-load of children who get those children involved with horses they should be nowhere near.
I expect Miss Hyder to be running here to claim that the story Fugly is providing is false and she’s the good guy and blah, blah, blah. Ugh…people…
Five kids, and the oldest was born when SuperMom was 15. Class act all around.
Another fun fact: Ms. Hyder has given birth to 3 children not 5! Just more proof that people should rather facts before posting for the world to see.

No one said she gave BIRTH to five. She has three of her own and two that are her boyfriend’s, based upon her OWN profile that SHE made.

Trouble is, now that horse has been bought, she will do it again, and again, and again.
Really, I know it is hard, but they should have sat tight and called AC and the police and let them deal with the woman.
The horse obviously had not received Vet care, so it should have been fairly straightforward……

AC was contacted and the horse was signed over. She was not bought.

Photos taken at Ms. Hyder’s. Yes all I do believe that is a Vet. Ms. Hyder called Beauty Haven to see about taking the mare and signed this mare over to Beauty Haven of her own accord. Had the mare been seized as Ms. Mock has suggested Beauty Haven would have had no reason require a signature.
I am 100% percent in agreement with the fact this mare needed to go to Beauty Haven.
But the slanderous remarks that Ms. Mock is spreading anywhere and everywhere she can find is getting out of control. And since she lied about Ms. Hyder not getting the mare any medical attention while in her care (look at all of her other blogs on other sites) then just maybe there are more whole in this wonderful pat me on the back story that she is spinning for the world to see. There are also photos of the mare being picked up from the original owner where she was attacked. Those will be saved for the attorney instead of going public with them at this point. Each and every Mock start this mess somewhere else she adds more merit to a good case.
Does Ms. Mock have any evidence that will stand up in a court of law when the slander suit is filed to back her statements.
Other then the price just went up remark which was obviously nothing more then a jerk anger reaction to all of the bashing that was going on. Hell, I have told people I would shot a horse before I would let a particular person buys it. Would I really shot the horse NO!! The person maybe but never a horse. Who hasn’t latched out with in appropriate remarks when being attacked. Ms. Mock contacted her and made the offer which was not accepted. Ms. Hyder never suggested that she intended to sell this mare.
Ms Hyder has done thing in the past that I sure don’t agree with but this time she is being railroaded by several bitter woman that are looking for their moment in the spotlight claiming to have “rescued” the poor mare. When in reality there actions only slowed the process of this mare getting to a Large rescue that had the money and means to get it the extensive help that it is going to require to make a full recovery.
Ms. Hyder is not being “railroaded.” When you are a POS animal abuser, you DESERVE to get outed and bashed and it is important that this happen so that other people DO NOT give you ANY more animals. It is ludicrous to assume that this is merely a way for anyone to “get in the spotlight.” If you want your 15 minutes of fame, there are a lot easier ways in our society than taking on some lunatic animal abuser and spreading the word about her at great personal risk to yourself. Trust me on that!
She may have a vet – hell, even Dean Solomon had a vet, one that defended her on the NEWS. Vets are human – some are incompetent, some will cover up a situation or minimize it, etc. The fact remains that mare was sitting in a field with no care until she got to Beauty’s Haven.
What is being done about the starving dogs at Ms. Hyder’s?
What Factfinder is failing to mention is that a deputy and animal control officer had to go with the rescue to get the horse signed over. It was not by the kindness of Amber. Also that the vet was paid for by someone else not Amber.
Vet care was also NOT given upon arrival to this woman’s property. It took a message board and donated money when the vet should have been called as soon as Amber knew she was bringing this horse ‘home’. So blooming sad.

And cannot spell worth a damn. Spellcheck is not infallible, and I make mistakes, too, but at least I know how to use the thing, and at least I try!!!
Even better – most browsers now have it so you can automatically set it to spell check for you! If I misspell something, the word gets highlighted, underlined and italicized to make sure that I see it! Granted it does not check for grammer, but every little bit helps!
Nothing in the blog against amber that was written by FH (Kathy), and posted appears to be posted as a malice lie, so on what standards would a slander suit be filed???
Also, when you cant afford vet care, when can you afford an attorney?? Slander suits are very expensive, and do not usually pay out very well. It also will bring more negative attention to the plaintiff.
This case would likely be thrown out of court, because of the overwhelming amount of evidence, showing that Miss Hyder was unable to care for this mare.
Also, Matter of opinion is not slander! Nothing was stated that she knew Ambers dogs attacked the horse, but merely would guess that they did. That is her opinion, and she is entitled to it.
So again, on what basis would a suit be filed?

Where are all my other blogs? I posted on Florida horse in response to Amber’s continued denial of medical treatment for the mare. I posted this on my own personal blog and my facebook page to draw attention to this mare’s plight and get her the medical treatment she needed. It prompted many to step in and help. Donations have gone up for Beauty’s Haven but the mare is going to need long term care. The animal control office was overwelmed with phone calls and publically stated that they would like no more calls on this case even before the mare was safely off of Amber’s property. Beauty’s Haven contacted Amber in an outreach measure. She did not initiate communication with any rescue, or individual who could get the mare medical treatment.
The mare is getting help and to add insult on the mare’s injury, Amber said on a public guestbook that she dearly misses the mare and would like to visit her. She signed away her rights to the mare and has no reclaimation clause. How is it to be percieved that my begging Amber to sell me that horse delayed the horse getting medical attention? Because she assumed I am who called animal control she became angry and took it out on the mare? WTF kind of reaction is that? It’s sick and what she did to that mare is sick.
I realize animal control will probably not have any legal recourse in this case. Amber’s story is she just ‘got the mare’ in this condition. She gave the same story about the skeletal dogs. She just ‘got them’ in that condition. Well if she can’t pay for routine medical maintenance as shown by not producing rabies vaccinations for even one single dog on her property thus far, why is she taking any animal especially in light of the fact that she could not afford, by her own public posts on public forums, medical attention for the injuries to that mare? Rabies shots can be arranged with government assistance for only $5 per dog. That mare is going to cost that a couple thousand times over! If these types of cases are not brought up, then it only serves to put more animals in the hands of people who cannot afford proper care for them. Pets are a privlege, not a necessity unless of course you treat them as a commodity. In this case, the mare’s value, if she was in fact a commodity, was a negative number. If she were a beloved pet, then the day the dogs attacked her, she was beloved no more by Amber. If she were so concerned why did she not give the donations she recieved, again, by her own public posts, to Beauty’s Haven? Certainly not because they were spent on her beloved pet. And the question still being asked by everyone who has heard the story that Amber gave about the attack on this mare …. where is the foal that the mare was supposedly defending? That’s what AMBER said the mare was doing when she was attacked by dogs. The reason she gave for the wounds being on the head was that the mare turned into the dogs to defend her foal. She seems to know the details of the attack so where’s the missing foal?
What an absurd folly for you to say I did this for the spotlight! Is that why all of the others, including Fugly posted this obscure story about one injured mare out of thousands all over the country (the USA, that is)? It’s a spotlight for Lady Angelica and Beauty’s Haven. No one who commented on any public boards, emails, comments on posts, guestbooks and the like, said, shhhhhh, keep this out of the spotlight including Amber Hyder!

A large rescue? Beauty’s Haven is about a tenth of the size of HPAF (hpaf.org another great Florida rescue association) and they do not have the money to get extensive help except for the donations that are coming in from this story being spread far and wide. What rescue has a big bank account just waiting for people to ignore their horses injuries?
Who do you think told Beauty’s Haven about the mare? It wasn’t Amber and it wasn’t TDF aka Factfinder. Hmmm, guess you’ll assume like you assumed I was the one, me, Mrs. Mock, who alerted animal control to her disgusting mess of underweight animals. I didn’t have to. Get your facts gathered FACTFINDER.

I log on and read these uneducated comments from this FACTFINDER and wonder….where are you finding facts? Maybe I shouldn’t be replying so much. As a very wise woman told me recently, sit back and let her hang herself. But then again, this statement only serves to hurt the demanding and never ending work of a great rescue that did step in and take the initiative to start a dialogue with Amber Hyder as they were enlightened to the situation of the mare. Beauty’s Haven is to be commended as a rescue that did truly step in and save this mare and that is a fact.
To say they are a large scale rescue is ridiculous but to say they do a large scale amount of difference in the lives of the horses they help is a fact you will find if you are actually looking. They have the means because I turned over money that I was offerring Amber to buy the mare and because people all over this country have stepped in and donated what they can. To say that any rescue has the money for the horses they are surprised to find is about the most uneducated equine related statement to make.
If you find any facts to back up Amber Hyder’s actions during the time between this mare’s injuries or when Amber says ‘she just got the mare’ and the time the mare actually recieved medical attention from the kind and generous donations of the Fla Hrs board, and then the time that passed until she was rescued by Beauty’s Haven please, by all means correct us all. Correct me whom you’ve singled out as the persecutor of Amber.
The only corrections to be made here are the ones that someone who calls themself a FACTFINDER has incorrectly and unknowledgably written here.
You won’t find any sympathy for Amber here. Look at the title of the post on this blog. You won’t find one person here that has seen the pictures of that mare and the synopsis of her story, that will back up any fact that you feel your opinion merits. Opinions are not facts. Lady Angelica is a living fact and her documentation from Amber’s own admissions, posts and pictures are fact.
I am not ashamed of anything I did regarding this mare. I drove 2 hours to see if this plea was for real and was shocked by what I found. I know not everyone has the time to drive to the middle of nowhere and see if an injured horse is for real but in this case, someone did and that is a fact. So TDF aka factfinder, as you accuse everyone on this blog of just hearing one side of the story, what is the other side of the story? What facts did you find that support the treatment of this mare? So far I have not seen one single fact that you have found. I’m not sure your username is much more than useless. As for flying horse? I’m a licensed veteran commercial pilot who loves horses and the pegasus symbol. That’s where my username comes from…..waiting anxiously for those facts you will surely find to let us in on the ‘other side’ of this story.
Please, FH, keep posting. I have a feeling that we still do not know the whole story.
Actually this is well documented technique to avoid prosecution. Voluntarily give the animal up, and many agencies do not prosecute.
Unfortunately I have had personal experience with the Dixie county police, and animal abuse. I am not holding out much hope that they will get any help from the law. There is some very very scary people and places in that county. At least the mare made it out.
I personally know Amber hyder. I will not sit here and defend her, I have no words at this point. She and I at one time shared a mutual friend, but they no longer speak, after amber was left in charge of her horses, and as a result horses came back to her in horrid shape, even the feet, and yes, she is a farrier.
I have always tried to be kind to her, but this story literally put me way over the edge, and I myself, reported her to animal control. Good news there. That small ass town knows everyone, and the officer has know Ambers boyfriend Tommy, all of his life. He said the mare was fine, and the dogs were in great shape ::GAG::
I took a gelding, a lame one from her, he was skinny when she got him, but seeing how she has this amazing ability to make fat horses skinny, I figured this guy didnt stand a chance. Now I own a lame skinny gelding, but he is improving. He likes to kick, so he is really slowing down his progress, but we are working on that, one day at a time.
I tried to control the thread (on flahorse board) in which you see everyone was rightfully attacking her, because I know her well enough to know she would become angry and the one to suffer would be the horse. I am truely thankful she allowed the mare to go on to a rescue. It was a huge relief.
In all honesty unless someone may know someone high up in Florida, getting them to change their ways will be close to impossible. They know everyone in that small town, I was told there was nothing I could do, and I tried, but they were right. The animal control officer that visited with Amber told me what great shape everyone was in, and how they must be having a good month.
I am going to try to stay out of this as much as possible, but charismagic2: good for you for standing up for that poor horse and reporting somebody you considered a friend so the animal could be helped. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to a stranger, but even more when it’s a friend you feel is doing wrong. I am sure if that mare could talk, she would thank you every way she could

I just sent money down for her. Merry x-mas, and thanks so much for the fantastic work being done. I’ve been offered about a half dozen rescues already this year and I’m just full! It does break my heart that I cant’ save them all but it really makes me ill to see this kind of neglect when there is a place that WILL take them. Irresponsible people. And yes, like AirsAbove said, first kid when she was 15, second at 18, doesn’t make for a real “do for yourself” kind of person. Please, somebody take the rest of those horses away from her!
Just to add to fact finders comment..
Yes a vet was at ambers, but amber did not pay for the vet! She recieved donations for the vet, which I am not argueing that to be a bad thing, but when she couldnt pay for that herself, and then wouldnt let the horse go to someone that could pay for the remainder of the care, is when I lost any respect that I had for her. The horse had a home with a retired vet, and was going to recieve everything it needed.
Originally had it not been for the flahorse board and their donations, Amber herself was going to treat those wounds on her own!
Maybe Fugly blog needs a special section for repeat offenders?

Speaking from an informed perspective, the photographs of the mare prior to her treatment at Beauty’s Haven, show no evidence that the mare was receiving continued appropriate veterinary care, which would be necessary for successful management of these wounds. It does not seem likely that the mare would have been signed over to Beauty’s Haven if conditions appropriate for her continued care and recovery (as well as the $$ to support that) were available at Ms. Hyder’s.

I have been following this story on ABR, but I had no idea it was the same woman who was infamously featured in a previous FHOTD story. Now it all seems to fit. Thank heaven for Beauty’s Haven and the kind woman who called attention to this mare’s plight. And thanks to Fugs for outing this animal abusing hoarder. I hope that at least a few people will now think twice about donating to Amber’s “rescue”.

Sad, but true and all too common
Having been involved with TB rescue, I’ve seen this happen. Many people are just greedy and will raise the price if they realize you’re thinking with your heart instead of your mind. We had a race trainer raise the price after the deal was done claiming that he hadn’t cleared the deal with the “owner” and was now in “big trouble” unless the new price was met. The buyer, also involved in racing, raised holy hell with the stewards at the racetrack because the trainer’s wife was the owner of record. The trainer had claimed he belonged to a different owner raising suspicion that this was “hidden ownership” which is illegal. Threatened with exposure he honored the original price. The horse is now in a non-racing home.
I’ve also seen people get pissed off because of an inappropriate comments or behavior from the ptential buyer. The most tragic case was one in which we negotiated a package deal with a trainer who like to brag about slaughtering his horses. We were to pay a set price for 7 horses, a few of which had adopters waiting. One of the potential adopters flamed the trainer on the boards before we picked up the horses. He retaliated by raising the price and cutting two horses out of the package. He also promised to kill the one horse to punish the lady who flamed him.
One of the horses cut from the package was a wonderful little bay gelding who would have had a fine second career. Thanks to this person indulging in her selfish and immature rant on the boards, he raced several more years. He was forced to run his last race with an injured knee…a two mile marathon in the mud that he lost by 37 lengths. If his groom hadn’t bumped into me in the shedrow, this broken down wreck of a horse would have been slaughtered. Surgery to fix his knee was unsuccessful and he developed a bone infection. We lost track of the other horse cut out of the package, but unless the angels were watching over him, she met a bad end.
Please, please, please be censor yourself when trying to remove a horse froma a bad situation. People who starve, neglect, and abuse animals are not good people nor are they rational. You have to make getting the horse out of there your number one priority and how you conduct yourself determines whether or not you will be successful. Preaching, trying to appeal to their sense of fairness or jugement, getting rude or angry doesn’t. The best way to do this is by presenting cash and stroking their egos no matter how disgusted you are. I’ve learned to keep the disgust off my face, smile, nod, bring cash and have the trailer there with the truck engine running. Anything less could have tragic results and other than a moment of self-satisfaction, what have you really gained? Don’t worry, karma will catch up with them someday, I promise!

Yes, the best person to go hands-on deal with the abuser is ALWAYS the person who can maintain total poker face! If you get emotional when you see bad things and cannot hide your reaction, it’s best to donate or foster and not try to get horses out of bad homes directly. However, I’m not saying that was a problem in this case – I honestly don’t know. I hate it when the price goes up like that. It’s just what the kill buyers do – they extort money and laugh all the way to the bank. I am happy to hear the eventual outcome here was that Ms. Hyder had to sign over the horse and did not get a paycheck for her bad behavior.

Damn, that used to be an ear, the wound makes me cringe..WTF..I do remember her original story very well. You called it Fugs.. and you were right! she was defended then, and now, once again. Are these people from another universe or something? Treating animals this way is never all right. Extorting money from would be rescuers, also low class and never o.k. Thank goodness this mare is safe, I pray for the other”victims” that remain in this woman’s care. And threatening “slander” when they actually mean libel, just makes my day. and it has to be untrue. It obviously is true… just look at this mare’s head..yeah, right there, where the ear used to be. Can I just say, that although I love this blog, and think you do really great work exposing total scumbags (like the woman this post is about appears to be!) I do take issue with stereotyping people by their education level… though I am not at all disagreeing that whats-her-name here, Amber, is obviously human trash, it has a lot more to do with her treatment of animals than with the fact she has a GED. There are plenty of intelligent, competent, beneficial to society people who, for various reasons, had a less than traditional school experience and got a GED instead of a high-school diploma. I am one of those people, and honestly I am really tired of everyone trashing GED students and assuming we are all unemployed, alcoholic, trailer-trash. I just turned 18, am in my second year of college, and honestly I feel that I have had an even better education that most high-school students, because I have had to fight much harder, and get much better grades, than my more traditional peers, to prove that I am not uneducated or stupid.
And obviously, ‘people’ (and I use that term loosely) like Amber do nothing to dispel the stereotype, since she is exactly the kind of trash that most people think of when they hear ‘GED’.
I actually know a number of people who have their GED and have gone on to acquire college degrees or who started their own business and have been successful. However, they do not brag about the GED as one of their educational accomplishments. When you have your degree, that’s what you’ll call attention to – and nobody will ever know (or care) that you didn’t get your H.S. diploma.
By the way, good job for pursuing your education!
You’re right, Fugs. In the world today, being proud of getting a GED is social suicide, I guess. I dropped out of H/S halfway through my senior year in 1977. Got my GED in 1995. Went back to school 2 years ago at the age of 48. Have been on the honour roll the last 2 semesters, and am on it again this semester.
I’m not ashamed, AT ALL, of having quit high school, and gotten a GED. Nor do I bandy it about. If someone asks, I tell them.
This Amber beast gives all us GED-having people a bad name. She is cruel and mentally deficient.
I have to agree with this post, this woman is definitely a POS, but I don’t think attacks on her education level, number of children, or age when she had children are appropriate. For all we know the child she had at 15 was the product of a rape, and even if not I don’t think it’s fair to judge a person for a mistake made at that age. Attack her for being a neglectful mother, an animal hoarder, and a greedy abuser, PLEASE. All of those things are terrible and make her a terrible person. But using terms like “white trash” and judging a person for their education and children is just petty and takes the focus away from the real abuse going on.
I also disagree about bragging about a GED as an educational accomplishment. A GED IS an education accomplishment, and one that often involves a lot more hard work then the average kid who gets passed through high school. I would never fault anyone for wanting to display that as something they were proud of.

I have to say I did not know of Amber or her previous hijinks on the fugly blog or elsewhere until this mare. The injuries occurred (and all this is what Amber told me) Dec 3. She took pictures up til Dec. 8 and that’s when she posted on the Fla Hrs Board asking for ‘home remedies’ for these injuries as she did not have the money for a vet. The board rallied and a donor paid for a vet which did not arrive at Amber’s until Dec. 11. Amber left her farm on the evening of Dec. 11 and by her own admission did not return to her farm (she was with her friend at a horse auction) until Dec. 13. She told me on the phone when I asked who was taking care of the mare, her mother but since they coudn’t ‘get no furazone’ at the feed store, she told her to just hose her off.
Yes, I read the story and felt a sort of urgency when I saw a black rotting horse head in the picture. I called Amber who said I could come visit them and meet her. I drove two hours up to good old boys headquarters in Dixie County Fla. Why? To be in the spotlight you say? I’m not sure the spotlights from the prison over in Cross City even reach into that dark abyss!! And as someone pointed out earlier, Amber did not willingly surrender this mare. She harassed the people who picked up the mare which were accompanied by AC and the sheriff’s deputy, by yelling that the mare had to have a bigger trailer to be transported in. WTF???
If you read things like her asking me to fraudulently obtain powder bute or liquid banamine from my own vet (by saying it was for my horse and picking it up at his office) yes, that’s a I said, she said situation.
If you look at the dates and how long it took for Amber to get help for the mare, those are facts which Ms Hyder documented herself in her photos, her emails, her public forum posts, on voicemails & answering machines.

The only money MS AMBER HYDER missed out on was the original $300 I offerred her to buy the mare in order to get the mare medical treatment. I donated that money to the rescue the day after she arrived and had her ear removed as it had mostly rotted off. The ‘evidence’ documented by Amber Hyder herself, shows she should be suing herself for her own defamation. Unless of course, the statement above regarding slander is still spinning around Amber Hyder and her unintelligent friends’ heads.
Thanx again Kathy for posting this. As for me posting this on my own personal blog and on facebook, well, I couldn’t get Amber to allow the mare proper treatment buy buying her so I spread the story as much as I could in the hopes the mare would get out of there. I didn’t have to call animal control. People from all over the country (the USA, that is) had already done so.
And as for getting a spotlight? Well, Amber got it twice right here on the Fugly blog! It’s a disgusting way to get publicity but it also helped to shed light on Beauty’s Haven Equine Rescue and recieve many donations from new followers of their rescue operations.

Yeah, you can get in on my Legal Defense Plan for “slander” claims from bottom-feeding knuckle-draggers who abuse horses. It involves getting together for margaritas while imagining the looks on their faces when they find out what it costs merely to file a complaint and have someone served, or they discover you don’t get a public defender for civil claims.

I wouldn’t wish being sued on anyone, even if it is for something so spurious. Slander isn’t really what factfinder means, but it doesn’t matter. Defamation law is fun as all get-out, but the rundown really won’t be helpful. Fugs’s legal plan for dealing with internet accusations of defamation is really the best option. In your case, I’d say get a second pitcher and laugh at what you’d put in the discovery demands if they ever found a lawyer to file it. Remember, you get to ask questions and request documents! Think this lady wants to tell you exactly how this mare got hurt?

Why invoke pigs given those dogs she has??? (A situation I hope is also on the radar screen to be dealt with, as many others including horses and people are at risk-this is not good behavior, dogs can kill…..hope springs eternal).
Don’t count on her starving dogs to deliver justice, they are probably terrified of her. Pigs are another matter. This is just terrible.

Anyways, what makes anyone think this is ok? In all honesty, I’m wondering how her animals haven’t been seized yet in the first place.
I am using the same name I use where ever I post on the internet. Here is what set this horse apart to me.
When Amber got the donation for Vet care approx 4-7 days after the injury Ms. Mock came out later that day.
Amber ask Ms. Mock to take her to meet the boyfriend which Ms. Mock did, the boyfriend handed Amber cash, which was believed to be approx. $200. Amber was then taken to TDF home. Amber posted on Fl horse at 5:30 AM on Saturday morning that LadyBug only needed treatment once a day per the Vet and her family was watching her while she went with TDF for the day, she said she would be there to do the scrub later that day. The next time Amber posted was Saturday night at 10:30 PM still at TDF house. Ms. Mock and Amber had talked at some point about Ms. Mock buying the horse so Ms. Mock posted what she thought was good news on the BB Sunday morning. Amber blew up and raised the price to $500 then on the public forum $1000. If she flies off the handle this easily who does she take her anger out on? I don’t know , I only hope it is verbal and not physical.
So we know that LadyBug was left without a “horse” person from 5:30 PM Friday until sometime Sunday afternoon.
This my friends is why I kept this alive on Fl Horse bumping up the thread so it did not die. Maybe someone will post the photos of LadyBug when the Vet was out at Amber’s house. Maybe someone will post the photos of LadyBug before treatment, maybe someone will post the photos of Ms. TDF daughter riding another horse belonging to Amber that Sunday or Monday.

I dont think there was a single word spelled or used properly in her post…not one! CPS needs to be called and informed of the situation as well as animal control, cause if whe has this much disregard for her animals lives I hate to see the condition her kids are living in. I am going to pray for any living thing that has to be near her on a daily basis, and the ACOs that are going to be on this case.
I feel so bad for this poor mare. I’m so glad she finally got out of there and got proper care. I wonder if her ear might have survived if it had been taken care of immediately. Years and years ago my horse threw his head back and hit the top of the stall door frame and sliced his ear nearly off. It was hanging like that mare but it was a clean slice not all ragged and full of dog spit so the hardest part was just holding his head still long enough to suture it. (He HATED his ears being touched) Still you have to wonder if a proper cleaning and suturing would have saved it.
I hope the people responsible (all of them) get theirs in the end. Maybe they will get attacked by their own hungry dogs! Not so much fun!
I read a study (in Equus I think or TB Times) that said that Furazone actually SLOWED down healing of wounds! I stopped using it then!
Ugh…. I had no idea. Thankfully I haven’t been using Furazone for a long time.
But we did use it when I was a kid. That might explain the mysterious incident when a small scrape on my horse’s leg turned into a big gross sore with proud flesh.
I think we can call her white trash: looks like a duck, quacks like a duck. I just wish I knew how we might, as a matter of public policy, forbid such persons from owning more animals than they can care for. From reading all of this story I think the way to go is to strengthen the enforcement of animal abuse laws. This means asking every Florida elected official for a publicly stated stance on this matter and then holding them to their pledged word with our public feedback and votes. It wil be a long haul to change the culture down there but I think it can be done.
My mother once told me that when she was a kid, racist people used the term ‘white trash’ to mean white people who lived like black people, whatever they thought that meant. Since then, I just use the term ‘trash’. That’s the important part of the phrase anyways- who cares what race she is?

I hope the people who plan on hiring that lawyer, if they can find one desperate to take a non-existant case, also have a lot of time to wait. Most civil cases take 2-3 years. And in FL, a lawyer cannot take this type of case on a contigency basis. They have to be paid up front.

The person who tried to help poor LadyBug had NOTHING to gain. A truelly compassionate person, who went out of her way to save a mare from a slow and painful death.

You know, that’s the really sad thing. Her children (biological and step) are going to grow up learning about animal husbandry and care from this woman, thinking this is the right way to do things. And let’s face it – if she’s too lazy to keep up with her own horses’ feet, what about care of the children?
I am from the same town Amber is from and I could tell you some stories. It is very sad to know that people like her are allowed to have animals much less children. Everywhere they have lived has been trashed… All the animals they have had and still have are sick looking… As for her children they are good kids. I know one of her step kids doesn’t like going to her house because the child says its nasty and dirty.. I really think that the Dixie County Sheriff’s Department should do something about the animals they have. I think maybe someone higher then DCSD should be involved!
If her friends have the funds to hire an attorney maybe they could also go over and make sure the other horses are fed. The one Ms. TDF daughter rode really needed to gain about 200 lbs. There is a stallion over there that could do with surgery before there any more babies made over there.
Then maybe you could consider spending your money on an attorney. But then with all the photos that every one else has to be proof the neglect of the horse I don’t think it would be in your best interest to take the case to court.

I dont understand why she didnt call the vet right away, and how long was she goingto let this horse suffer. She shouldnt have even offered a price if someone else is willing to take care of the vetinarian costs and put the time in to care for the wounds. I bet she didnt get a thank you for taking care fo her horse for her when she neglected to do it. If its your animal you take care of it. No excuses. It doesnt matter how many kids you have. The kids didnt make the horse appear in your yard. You put it there. you have to be responsible for what you have and own. you cant take care of what you haev then you need to reconsider maybe cutting down on what you own. Thats it. I cant believe she didnt call a vet. A few weeks ago my horse had an abcess. I had to miss work and get the farrier out. I thought I was going to have to call the vet out because at first I didnt know why she was off. I thought she hurt herself. She was fine the day before then that morning barely walking and putting full weight on that one leg. I took her temperature, and was checking out her movements in her shoulder, etc. It was an abcess. The farrier ended up coming out anyways to open it a little bit. It burst in a couple of days. After a full week of soaking 2x’s a day and wrapping, it was all better.
I work too hard for what I have and they mean so much to me that I wouldnt be able to let them go like that. Does this woman think that they can be replaced to easily? If she did do something with them then they would have meaning to her and just maybe she would have taken care of them better then tossing them aside as an ..old piece of junk. They are not objects! They didnt have a choice of living in your backyard or to be put in those situations. When I go feed my horses I think about all those horses that go without and when I brush my horses or pick up after them i think about all the ones that have poo stuck in their long shabby coats cover petruding ribs. I think about how Lucky I am to be able to care for these animals and how lucky I can be able to have my 2 horses,one dog and a cat. my horses are so lucky because I am a reliable source of food for them because they cant get it themselves. I am there to keep their water tank crystal clean, and to pick up after them because they cant. I think their should be a test before you own an animal so that you would know if you are capable of owning an animal. I am lucky to have these animals in my lives so its my responsibility. You should be able to pay for a vet,dentist and farrier. That is all part of their care. Its not fair if someone isnt taking care of their animals n another person has to step in to take care of them the right way. Ok I am done. I just couldnt believe that she was letting those injuries go and leaving that responsibility on someone else. She should have to pay something
From personal experience: Slander is hard to prove. There has to be some sort of financial loss from the slander to even come close to a claim. The complainant has to be the one suing for slander, Second parties need not apply. Any lawyer who takes a case (such as this one) isnt worth the suit he/she is wearing and holds very little “Legal water” with most courts.
Please acknowledge that this is just from my go round with slander/liable and isnt the case everywhere.
And for every person “tired of it with money for a lawyer” on her side I believe theres about 300 people “Tired of white trash getting away with this kind of sh*t” who have just as much money and are willing to counter

I did not meet all of Ambers kids, but the ones I met were good. Her little boy is super talkative, and not shy at all, but her daughter is a little quiet but not rude. They are good kids. I dont know what their home life is like, I never lived with them. I certainly do not agree with the barefoot grooming picture. But from what I have seen, her children do not appear to be abused, and were not dirty either.
Amber herself is relatively social, she has an outgoing personality, and surprisingly very personable. She is an easy person to talk to, not judgemental in the least bit.
With that said….
The treatment of the animals in her care is beyond troubling. There is no excuse. Ignorant doesnt even cover it. Could not imagine the pain that horse was going through with its ear dangling off of its head.
Some of her remarks came off as ignorant, selfish, and in my own opinion it seemed as if this helpless mare became her meal ticket to donations, I begged and pleaded with her via email to give up that mare, I emphasized the importance of vet care, and how damaging an infection could be so close to that poor mares brain, and every plea was completely ignored.
Infact, somehow she managed to turn it around on me, claiming that the lame gelding she gave me, was suffering and should be put down. He has multipul abcesses do to poor hoof care, and unsanitary conditions. He also has arthritis. Its not the end, its just an expensive road to recovery that I decided to take on, not for her, or for me, but for the horse.
I will not be ignored, I tried to be nice, I tried very hard to convince her to do the right thing. That mare deserved to be helped, she is a sweet mare who was suffering. A bullet would have been kinder!

These people don’t feel these animals are a privlege that take up a few fleeting moments of our lives. They view them as creatures without feelings or souls. How are friendships then valued or viewed?
I don’t know, if my choice was give Amber my horse or shooting it, I’d probably shoot him first. It would be more humane…
I am not sure what we are expected to do other than “take sides”. I cannot imagine any sort of exculpatory evidence that could be presented to make this into a witch hunt with an innocent victim at it’s center. There is documentary evidence of serious injury to a horse, and an owner who self-proclaimed the inability to afford proper care. At that moment, it is neglect or abuse to keep the horse. Any responsible owner would either euth or go into debt. A choice many of us have had to make.
I try to provide whatever care I am capable of providing – vets are expensive! BUT, I would never, ever, leave an open wound without appropriate treatment. A dangling ear? Only a vet can assess that sort of injury. Get one!
Pet ownership is a privilege. Please, act responsibly, and that includes intervening in situations like this one. My hearty thanks to everyone who helped this mare get treated appropriately. I hope that any undernourished animals involved get re-homed before they suffer any longer. It isn’t a shame to admit that you cannot continue to feed a herd of animals, the shame comes from NOT admitting it, and causing them to suffer. We are all responsible to make sure this doesn’t happen, everyone should advocate for those that cannot advocate for themselves.

As much as I hate this lady, I have to defend people who have a GED, as I just recently took the test. I have horrid medical problems and couldn’t physically go to school. Some people have no other choice, but this lady probably did :/ She disgusts me and I thank you for exposing her. People like this should NOT be allowed animals, REALLY.
I defend them too, I’ve tutored people prepping for their GED, and passing the test is quite a bit harder (at least in my area) than drifting through high school and ending up with a diploma. People who do well on the GED are actually prepared for college-level courses, unlike many high school graduates who end up having to take remedial courses once they get to college.
Still, if a GED was my highest accomplishment among my qualifications to care for hurt or sick animals, I would be seeking the help of professionals and listening to their advice!
I like you didnt have a choice but to leave school before graduation. I dropped out in the last trimester of my junior year. I do not regret the decision, it saved my life. I never did make it back to get my GED, one day I might. Shortly after I left school, I ended up being a teen mom, twice! I guess it all depends on how you handle it. My highschool boyfriend and father of both children we are still together, we also built and own a relatively successful company.
Everyone is entitled to make mistakes, its how you live with them, that makes you who you are!
I agree, I am so happy that amber was outed on fugly. Literally all day I was giddy. I dont know what is better news, the fact that everyone sees what is going on, or the fact that people came together, and pushed authorities to take action. My call alone did not get that mare removed! So thankful that everyone followed through and called for help. Seriously, everyone who actually went through with calling, you need a pat on your back, because it literally took overwhelming that county to get them to remove that mare, and I am so happy it worked.
It would be different if she had a GED and spoke eloquently and was actually able to spell. I think people attacked her because of it simply because she really can’t put a sentence together that makes any sense. Not to mention all of her activities involving abused animals.
One of her excuses was that she did call a vet, but couldn’t get anyone to come out because she lives in a rural area that is terribly underserved, and the few vets were all busy.
Let’s just say that part’s true–I would guess that her area would have the same issue with farriers. So, since she claims to be a farrier, couldn’t she have advertised her services to earn money for the vet, instead of begging on the internet?
Or how about this: get in touch with a rescue and offer to provide them free farrier services in exchange for them taking the horse and getting it vet care?
I live in a rural area too but I am confident that when I call my vet he will come. Why? Because I have almost 18 years of history with him, he knows me well and I pay my bills. All of my animals (3 horses, 1 donkey, 4 dogs and a pot bellied pig) recieve regular routine care in addition to any emergency care they might need. One of the most important things you will do for your animals is to have a relationship with your vet – more than one if necessary, that way you can count on those 10:00 pm Sunday night emergency calls not being ignored.

While I certainly am disgusted by the way she handled the situation, I don’t think that saying because she had a child at such a young age makes her trash. Plenty of young mothers are very respectable and great people. Her actions time and time again are what makes her a “bad person.” Knowing that she didn’t have the financial means to care for this mare, she should have immediately contacted a REAL rescue organization and gotten the mare the care she required and deserved. She will ultimately do this again and depend on the kindness of others to “bail her out.” I see nothing wrong with sticking by a friend when they are in need, but to enable someone like this and to defend her actions are crazy. Her “friend” should be educating her and not enabling her to continue on the path that she is on right now.

If you think it is in any way childish to educate the public about people who are criminally negligent about their animal care, well, it is not surprising that you don’t understand the point to a blog entry like this one. If you had been actually READING and not just RANTING, you would see how many people here hands-on DID do things, AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE of time and money, to help Ladybug, and continue to do so.
As for the Lord, I’m an atheist, so you’re barking up the wrong tree. But there are many Christians here who believe we have a duty to be good stewards to the animals and who do not see anything wrong with publicly discussing a case like this. I’m sure they are praying that Ms. Hyder becomes a better animal owner and that she learns to apply the golden rule to her animal care, and that’s great, and I support it 100%.

I don’t have any kids, and I never will. However, if I did, I’d absolutely want them to react with as much shock and outrage as I did over the treatment and the state of this poor mare. The suffering that mare was allowed to endure at Hyder’s hands equates to a hell on earth.

It seems to me that this case has progressed in that manner. By her own actions, Amber has made herself an outcast from the “church” of responsible horse owners.
If you think Jesus said we have to forgive her, see Lk 17:3-4. I don’t have to forgive her until she repents. And true repentance means mending her ways, not just an apology.

a) whether your friend’s pants make her butt look big

FHOTD in: Well, I’m sure the vet at BH did so that it wouldn’t be in the way when they treated the wounds on her neck. They were trying to keep the wounds clean. It was probably a different vet from the first vet who saw her.
Funny how it was reported that this mare stood rock still while being treated properly, (and in a safe place under capable hands), meanwhile she’s twitched to the max in this photo.
While it’s not nice to be cruel, the female in this photo would not look out of place in “People of Walmart”. A key identifier of the trash profile is that the trash doesn’t know that they are trash.

a.) The example I choose to be for my children is a responsible pet owner who would NEVER let an animal suffer, for any reason.
b.) Bashing someone doesn’t make me feel better. Having the authority to ban them from animal stewardship would feel GREAT. I am going to work on that.
c.) Mature advice? Absolutely – we suggested finding a home which could afford to feed, not attempting to blackmail a buyer into a higher price, feeding the dogs, and keeping the children safe from the dogs/horses, not attempting to be a rescue when one can hardly afford to feed oneself. This all seems like constructive advice to me. You may not like how it was phrased, but that’s just too darn bad. I reserve the sweetness and light for people who ask for help before they get in over their heads.

Or did it actually happen on her property? I know accidents happen, but what attacked the mare and is still running around to do it again?
You say she talked to the vet “every day”. Which vet? What was the recommended treatment? As the mare ended up having her ear amputated, couldn’t one of Amber’s friends (maybe you?) offer to haul the mare to a vet so that her injuries could have been seen, if she was too far away to get a personal visit? It’s obvious that “talking to the vet every day” was not enough. It’s just possible that had she been seen sooner, say within twenty four hours of the injury, she may have kept the ear. No, wait – a vet did see the mare, finally, paid for by someone else, but it was too late for that ear.
So, instead of threatening to spank us – answer the questions. Provide facts.
Seriously- like you honestly care. Did you contact Amber and ask her the questions yourself- or is it up to her to prove herself you “all of you” on this site. She knows the truth- the vets know the truth. If you want to know the truth then ask her or call Dr. Yoho and his associate. But obviously you are too happy insulting and being a part of the bashing. You say Amber knows the truth and the vet(s) know the truth. But you appeared on this board making statements that make it seem like you know the truth. In response, I asked some relatively simple questions that should not have been difficult for you to answer. Either you know or you don’t. If you do, you need to step up and tell what you know – if Amber has been wronged, you have put yourself out there as being in a position to correct that wrong.
But be careful – you stated that Amber could not get a vet out to see the mare because she is so rural, but she talked to one every day, but then said the mare was seen by a vet. When? Who paid? How many days after the accident did the vet see Ladybug?
I have been reading these posts and agree that Amber was terribly in the wrong in her treatment of this horse. However, calling Amber’s children “crotch droppings” does not reflect well on the person posting. Also, if she had a baby at 15, she was still a child herself — she was a victim. Those more fortunate should not be treating her like vermin for it. I’d also like to mention that I’ve read a number of posts criticizing the poor grammar of another person while making their own spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in their posts. I used to like reading this blog, but honestly ladies, some of you are getting downright vicious!
Having a child at the young age of 15 does NOT make you a victim…it’s called being unreponsible, foolish, or uneducated…no protection=possible pregnancy. It’s simple as that. To follow with that, she had ANOTHER child at still a young age, so it sounds as if she was just being foolish. You would think she learned her lesson the FIRST time. And as for the grammar, we all make mistakes. Most of the time it is probably due to our hands typing at a different rate than our mind is flying. I do that all the time, but I also read back what I just typed and make the corrections. If you can’t realize you’ve made a mistake than that is because you didn’t pay attention in school or are just uneducated. Most people correct their grammar out of habit, because they know it’s not correct and care about how “the world” perceives them…nobody WANTS to appear uneducated.

Once her ear stump is healed, will they be able to do some sort of plastic surgery to rebuild enough cover to protect her ear innards? Poor poor mare.
someone on here was wondering if she would have sen a vet early enough maybe her ear could have been saved. and i say very possibly. our old man who was put down this summer when his vision started going a few years ago we didint know anything was wrong with his vision until one night he ran full bore head first into the silo.i was greeted by bert with a hanging ear.it was completely tore off hangine by some skin next to his eye the tendons that made his ear move sticking out were the ear used to be.he was bloody and i could see bone fragments his head looked like it had been scalped. i called three diffrent vets in a panic because we had just moved there and didint have a local vet yet!.two vets said to put him down with how severe the injury was and his advanced age he wouldent live. the third was shocked he was still standing but was willing to try to treat him but i needed to bring him in to the equine hospital so we carefully loaded him he led in without a halter. two vets they operated on him from 9am till 2:30pm they cleaned out all the bone fragments and dirt reattached the tendons and such. he had 68 staples and i forget how many stitches in his head but he made a FULL recovery his ear even moved normal! he only had a very small scar that you didint notic unless you were looking for it. and what this lady said about that ear needing treatment once a day is total crap!. we treated berts ear three times a day! changing bandages( i couldent stand a dirty bandage on his head!) putting a topical the vet gave us on it and i put tee tree oil on the gauze so it wouldent stick to his head. and it was very very painfull for poor bert i couldent imagine him without his pain meds he was on. but all and all the vets did a GREAT job! and it was only $550

Great job taking care of your old guy. The outcome of this stype of wound depends to a great degree on the extent to which the is vasculature (blood supply) to the (virtually severed or better yet, gnawed off) ear remains intact, how long it has been since the wound occurred and how contaminated the area is. The scenario with Angelica was not ideal, nor was the aftercare, as you point out. Appropriate aftercare and compliance are critical to managing serious wounds, and that apparently was not happening until she was removed and placed at Beauty’s Haven. We should be thankful that the outcome was a huge improvement (given the limitations of AC and purported undersupply of ambulatory vets in that area), and hope that the scenario does not repeat itself.

We have documented proof that Amber had that horse in her yard for several days before she got online and asked for home remedies. The reason she did not have a Vet out is also documented was lack of funds which she admitted on the other BB. Which I believe someone had copied and pasted before they were deleted.
We also have photos of the mare when she “arrived” at Amber’s , when she was seen by the Vet at Amber’s and when she was seen by the Vet at http://www.beautysequinerescue.org/ladybug.htm. We also have documented proof that she spent the w/e with Paints from Heavens leaving the mare without medical care from Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. Unless you count the Mother and sister that have very limited experience in treating serious wounds. These ladies were to busy attending auctions looking for new horses to buy as Amber had a $100+ called into the feed store.
All of the above is fact that can be presented in a court of law with the case is brought forth.

It’s Painted Angel (SO sorry if the name is off.. don’t want to point the finger at a specific name, but it’s something along those lines) or something or other from the FLhorse forum.. Amber usually either posts as her, or she posts in defense of her. So you hit the nail on the head.
I will say I had my child at 15. And have had to work my ass off to provide for him sans welfare or begging. But the reality is that many many young mothers just end up in trouble. Reproducing over and over again. I’m 30 and have only 2 children. I also have many very very nice horses. And have done my fare share of rescues.. and I don’t recall ever asking for money for any. Unless they had medical treatment I may have needed a bit of help recovering from.
With that being said, the horse should have been treated within 24 hours. Bottom line. And lack of finances is not an excuse. There ARE resources, humane societies out of county etc, who could have helped the horse with haste. Now we see a lovely mare with one ear.
IMHO the ear isn’t a big deal in the broad scheme of things. At least she is alive. And I have good faith she will find a wonderful home that doesn’t care if she’s missing an ear.

And I agree the mare should have been treated within the first 24 hours so maybe everybody should be tracking down Cindy to ask her why she didn’t contact a Vet when she went outside and found her mare like that. Instead of waiting and then finally calling Amber.
Another fun fact: If you ask Theresa at Beauty Haven I called her to make sure she had room for this mare so that I could get Amber to turn the mare over to them.

It’s all about how YOU feel, not the poor creature suffering.
I will never understand how people put their selfish feelings/behaviour and cruelty above the suffering of animals under their control and then bitch about how unkind the world is to them.
Would I want my kids to “see me acting this way”? Well, for one I would want them to be JUST as pissed off and horrified to see an animal treated in this manner as I am… and for another my kids won’t see this, because I care about them and monitor their internet use. (My sixteen year old might, but she generally doesn’t read this blog. She does, however, know my username because of my blog, which has -gasp- bad language. She is a mature, intelligent young woman who was dumbfounded when I talked about this poor mare.)
And there is a vast difference between what one might call “trash” and those who are in less than ideal circumstances and pull themselves up by the bootstraps. I work at Walmart and have three children as a now-single parent, and even live in a doublewide… but I hope that I show myself to have some modicum of class and intelligence. My three dogs and cat are fed well before I ever take a bite myself. My children always come before me. These are the kinds of things that I try to show my children.
Good for you! And congratulations to all of you that have overcome adversity and/or continue to improve yourself and your situations! I was a single mother and learned from that also. I committed myself to NOT bringing more children into this world under less then ideal conditions again. That was 27 years ago and my son is my only child.
I worked myself into law enforcement the hard way. I have nothing beyond a HS diploma. Just determination. My child never lacked for anything. My bills were paid. My animals were always properly fed and received all necessary vet care. Now, I have purchased my own home in the DC area. A VERY high cost area. The best I could do is a nice double-wide in a nice community. But, it’s home, clean and current on all payments.
I am on the BOD for a puppy mill rescue and also serve as the Adoption Committee Director. I have many mill rescues here as well as cats that have been rescued (as kittens) as I do trap-neuter-release for the ferals here. Not once have I ever had to beg for money to feed them or to provide medical care. My refrigerator may go bare, but my animals get what they need first! Why? Because this is the committment I made as each one entered my home and care. NEVER will they suffer because of me. I will see an animal goes to another rescue if I can’t care for their wellbeing.
As for those talking about what MY Lord thinks about how angry I am with this situation and how I handle it, you see, I’m not perfect. That’s why I ask for help and guidance. I have no doubt that HE is every bit as ticked off about how people harm HIS creations as I am. So, before any of you preach to us about our actions, perhaps you should be putting the injured and NEGLECTED mare first instead of trying to protect the indiviual who willingly MADE THE CHOICE not to provide the care that this animal needed to stop the pain and to start the healing.
That is seriously jacked up. Who the hell takes a horse with its ear rippped up that doesn’t have vet money? None of these stories ever make much sense . Please stop trying to be a rescue if you don’t have any common sense, don

Quoting the Bible back at religious fanatics, no matter how appropriate (or worse yet, pointing out contradictions) never works. They want the Bible to prove their point, not yours.
It’s pretty typical to have someone come on these boards and try to hint at “the real truth that no one else knows” about people who are featured here. Shame on you for defending someone who has done wrong — and worse, a person who was vindictive when a situation required compassion and common sense. If you know Amber, why didn’t you help her do the right thing? Her actions would never have gotten so much publicity if they hadn’t appalled, through her own postings as well as evidence from others, the equine community nationwide.
By the way, it’s also been pretty well shown by modern behavioral science that spanking kids doesn’t really do much to influence appropriate behavior, except maybe to make the parents feel like they are in control. But go ahead, call the posters here “children” and insist we need corporal punishment, prayers and guidance, so you can feel superior.
paints_from_heaven, I am also a Christian but I can find nothing in the Bible or in my own conscience that would defend this level of animal abuse. God gave us dominion over the earth and its creatures so we can take care of them, not leave them sitting in our backyards with their ears ripped off.
You say repeatedly that we don’t know the whole truth and that we are spreading lies, but I have seen no evidence that Amber is innocent and you are unwilling to provide any. That smatters of a lie – and lying is a sin, as you probably know. We have evidence and witnesses on our side – we have nothing to fear from your so-called “truth”.
Jesus only gave human beings two rules: love God, and treat others as we would have them treat us. Would Amber want to be left with one ear dangling off her head? Would Amber want to be left that way without medical care for days? I don’t think so. On the same note, I don’t agree with anyone bashing Amber for anything but her animal abuse, but at the same time people have a right to be angry with her. In the Bible, when Jesus saw wrongdoing he was filled with righteous anger. The horse community is no different. We are angry that this poor mare was injured so badly, and we are even angrier that Amber did nothing to help her and that it took donations, a real horse rescue, and an animal control officer to get those injuries treated.
Paints_from_Heaven, I urge you to pause for a moment in your anger and reflect on the person you are defending. Are her actions consistent with her words? She said that she wanted to help this mare, yet she lost her temper with people who were trying to offer help and advice, thus prolonging the mare’s suffering. Her story is not consistent, and it doesn’t match the evidence. She allowed this mare to go untreated for days and yet claims to love this mare. Jesus had a word for this kind of person: hypocrite.
As someone above pointed out, I hope that you direct your prayers at Amber and the remaining animals she possesses. Pray that God grants her wisdom and honesty, and the compassion for others that she so clearly lacks.

No, Teri, I could not remember how to get to your house. It was dark and I don’t know that area. I would not come to your house anyway. You have children and a ‘discussion’ with you in front of them would probably not accomplish anything. The issue here is the mare. So is that what we would discuss? Your reference to me having a problem with you is rather vague so if you can find where I stated that I had a ‘matter to discuss’ with you, please refresh my memory. I only have a problem with people trying to sweep what happened to this mare and the neglectful treatment she endured, under a rug.

Several questions you should be able to answer to share the truth with us since you are a friend of Amber Hyders’ have been asked which you asnwer by saying, we don’t want to know the truth.
I drove to Amber’s 2 hours from my house in the rain . Prior to that, I did not know Amber. I did that because I saw her posts about asking for home remedies and showing pictures taken of the mare approximately 4 days after the attack on the mare by Amber’s own postings. She also returned to the FlaHrs board to ask why the mare would smell in the area of her ear so badly. I actually thought she was making this up and the pictures were something she pulled off the web to get people to send her money. I wanted to help physically and financially, this mare if she did exist. That’s why I went there.
I called Amber to see if that was okay. She said sure come on up and gave me directions. I spent that entire day and a half of a tank of gas (my trucks costs $112 to fill up if it’s completely empty) driving there taking Amber to TDF’s house in the evening which was even farther north and then drove home in the dark, in the rain on I-75 on a Friday night. I chose to do that. I also chose to withdraw a sum of money to take to give to Amber. After Amber gave me a tour of her farm, I chose not to mention the money I was going to give her. The mare had just been seen by a vet paid for by someone Amber doesn’t know and doesn’t even live in the state of Florida. Yet in the cold drizzle with no shelter, the mare wandered about Amber’s yard chewing on millet. The muscle over her eye was clearly visible as it moved because the tissue had all rotted out. That is documented by Amber’s own pictures. To say that is not the truth, is a lie.
You’ve been asked to share ‘the other side of the story’ or the real truth and have yet to answer any of the questions asked.
Where is the mare’s foal? Is she at the ‘other’ person’s house where Amber retrieved her mare after the attack? Was a report made about the vicious dogs or was that not done because maybe the dogs belonged to the person who had the mare and if a report was made, they would be labeled dangerous and possibly seized and euthanized? If not, are they still on the loose because a report has not been made? Do you understand that everyone can call Dr. Hiers office and they cannot release the records of the mare? Where was your support physically and financially for your friend when this mare was still at Amber’s?

I know that keeping this post on this blog and hopefully people on any forum who can keep this story in the forefront of people’s minds during a season when most non profits know donations will be drastically down, is of utmost importance. Beauty’s Haven has received donations they might not otherwise have received because of this story and that is fantastic!
I’ve asked everyone to go to http://www.beautysequinerescue.org and if not able to donate, at least leave a kind word on their guestbook. It’s a shame that Amber took it upon herself to use their guestbook as her own peronsal blog to spew vile for the rescue and everyone who cares about the mare. It’s not a forum, or a blog, it’s a guestbook. Kind words are just as important to the people at Beauty’s Haven as are donations. It keeps their spirits up to go on another day helping the horses. They are going above and beyond to help Lady. Amber had the audacity to sign their guestbook saying she missed her beloved mare dearly and then returned a few days later to post disparaging words in the same guestbook as if it were a place for arguments or debate.
You say you don’t answer the questions because it’s being kept as privileged information for an attorney who will be filing a slander suit against me or Fugly or whomever you are attempting to scare today. Again, the whole case was documented in public forums by Amber herself.
I still have yet to retain a lawyer or be served with a ‘suit’ but I might put a suit on and sit on the back porch sipping Margaritas tomorrow for Christmas.
Nothing in this reply is untrue and it is all documented by Amber herself.

Er…’unresponsible’ is a word. Has the same meaning as irresponsible, but it is in many dictionaries (including Merriam Webster’s) as a recognized word in the English language
Yes, children make foolish decisions. But in my experience, most children who make such a large mistake once don’t do it again immediately thereafter. Though, perhaps the second child was planned? Nobody really knows, it’s not our business…and that’s not the point here. I personally could care less if somebody has a trailer on a tiny parcel, or an expansive million dollar estate: How the animals are cared for is all that matters. As they say, the proof is in the pudding.
I enjoy this blog and it’s comments, but I think it is unfair and uncalled for to call children names when they have nothing to do with this situation. The responsibility belong to the adult; if you want to spew venom at the (now former) owner of the mare who declined to provide proper care, leave it directed at her, and not innocent children.

Yes, this is the time of year to spend time with our loved ones and cherish them. It’s also an appropriate time of year (whether you believe in God or not) to consider those among us who need help, and to value and care for them just as we do our loved ones. My little granddaughter got it this year—she was thrilled with her coupon for a springtime horse ride, her stuffed pony toy, and she drew a heart on the check I sent to BeautysHaven after I explained (a kid’s version) what it was for. That’s what the season is all about—not putting unpleasantness on hold, in favor of ripping open the gifts.

I have been following this entire saga from the FLAhorse board and I’ve found it increasingly difficult to bite my tongue any longer. First off, I think it’s absolutely commendable there are people out there willing to go out of there way to assist an animal in need such as Beauty’s Haven Equine Rescue. Fugly – I think you do a great service to the equine community by calling these dirt bags out for what they are. To those of you who fought tooth and nail to bring Ladybug’s situation to the attention of so many and not stopping until she was in a safe place – kudos to all of you. To anyone trying to defend this POS horse trader – words can not even begin to describe the sympathy I have for you and your clouded judgement. I haven’t seen it approached here, but I was really struck dumb when I read one of Amber’s last post in which, she not only stuck to her guns that she’s supposedly “helped” this mare, but also had the audacity to ask for more donations in regards to future “rescues”.

I don’t know about anyone else here, but I was absolutely speechless that this girl/woman/whatever she is had the nerve to ask for more handouts in the middle of this entire thing. Actions speak louder than words, and by doing so – Amber has not only justified herself to me as an unfit animal owner but also as complete pond scum as a human being.
I have donated to Beauty’s Haven as they deserve donations, although they shouldn’t have to clean up after low-end horse traders posing as rescues. I am so glad that for once, the horse WON. She’s in a safe environment receiving the treatment and attention she needs. I think the pictures say it all – she’s beginning to look like she has a little more life in her eyes.
I agree with the others who have asked questions of those coming on here to defend Amber and claiming to know the “real story”. By all means, share the story. I don’t think there’s anyone on this message board who wouldn’t listen. However, I don’t think anyone will change their minds – facts are facts, and this mare suffered unnecessarily. Let’s face it, neglect and abuse can come in many different forms. Leaving an injured mare out in a dirt pen with a rotten, necrotic ear hanging off her head while scamming donations and money off good-hearted people? Well, you all can judge for yourself, but I know exactly how I would classify that.
Amber suffers from an extreme, extreme case of the redneck “YOU CAN’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO” that I see around here ALL the time. Call me elitist, call me classist, but this phenomenon is alive & well among the undereducated and untraveled, who congratulate each other – effusively – on their stubborn self-delusions masquerading as pride.
Her defenders are simply Not Right, and need professional therapy. Not that they’ll get it.
What is sad about this whole endeavor is she reminds me of someone who Fugly has already posted a blog about on December 25th in “out of the frying pan….”. I hate to see people think that they can get away with hurting animals. I also hate to see people freaking out over the net because they have been “blasted”. I also noticed the amount of children she had, including her step children, plus the amount of dogs and horses she was trying to take care of. Take it from me, a farrier’s salary cannot pay for that many children, as well as that many animals. Hahler tried that and failed miserably, even when she was going to 10 different states throughout the United States trimming horses at $15 a head. Take care of your animals or give them to someone else who can actually do it.
Ok, I’m totally new to Fugly (like, just started reading yesterday), and got all riled up reading about this stupid bitch Amber. I bounced around, read all the posts, comments, boards, etc. I can’t get over how immature and unintelligent this woman (Amber) is. Unbelievable. I feel sorry for her animals. Yes, kids too, but unfortunately they will all grow up to be just as trashy as she is, and will perpetuate the “trailer trash” syndrome.
I mostly wanted to post this link ( http://forum.horsetopia.com/members/tnahorses.html ) and say that she seems to be everywhere… She also on Flixster, Horsefix, etc. This woman obviously craves attention, and spends more time online to get it than with her horses.
