Those feet on that appy. Ugggh. How can anyone neglect feet? If you start them early enough they do learn to pick up there feet. Some horses take a while but you have to be doing it all the time. I have always played with my guys feet. You have to check them all the time for rocks. The younger they are the more you have to do it. they get use to it. Stop when they are being good and getting the idea of it. A horse can be taught anytime but the younger the better. If they had a bad experience with their feet because of pain or they had to get treatments to it they might be
not as willing to learn. But I hate to see that on any horse. There is no excuse for that. You have to get them to pick up their feet. Thats something they have to learn just like walking on a lead or wearing a halter. Some people are rriding their horses at 2. yikes. There are people from one extreme to the other. Getting them trained to do everything all at once and people who think their colt is so special that they can train themselves.

No appy lovers? I’ve been told that 432 is friendly and doesn’t act blind… Cass clucked to him twice and he stopped eating and walked over to her without bumping into anything or hitting his head around a pole. Also, the young appy fillies have nice shaped heads and are cute.

If she were to pick one to take (she can’t right now) it would be the 3 y/o grey Arab gelding or 2 y/o bay/white pinto gelding.

BTW-I’m going to Enemclaw Saturday. If someone needs a horse hauled north, let me know…I won’t charge anything, but if someone wanted to “chip in” for fuel that would be acceptable. I go all the way to the Canadian border…so that is along ways north one could hitch a ride!

The grey gelding need a ride somewhere??

Yes she was saved KLOFBD. (331) Thank goodness. She was a mare that I bought as a baby. When I got prego with my daughter (who is 12 now) I sold the baby. Needless to say my own pregnancy was a surprise :-) Then she went from the gal I sold her to, through some hands. No one trained her. Back 13 years ago I didn’t screen homes really, I wasn’t smart enough to realize that not all people give a rats ass. So anyway, a friend of mine took her on this summer to feed and handle her. She was skinny and pretty wild. She did allot with her in that time. Then she entrusted Kerry Klockner’s word of a good home where she would get trained and used. PRESTO…2 weeks later she was at the auction. Kerry is a liar. Plain and simple.

I wrote a strongly worded e-mail to Kerry this evening.

Now Lady Mayphair (we called her Ciara) needs a home. A young lady named Amy has her…I’m going to connect and see if I can help.

If anyone wants pics of Lady Mayphair (#331) barn name Sierra, taken just a few weeks before she went to Kerry Klockner, the person who dumped her at auction…feel free to contact me. I can also point you in the direction of video of her mother Jahmarra as I rescued HER TOO several years ago and finally rehomed her just last year after some extensive retraining and emotional healing. She is in a safe and loving home. I can email them and I can give you what little history I have on Sierra. Her life has been a hard one from the get go, poor baby. The breeder of Lady Mayphair, Jan Hamilton of Ferndale, WA has no business having horses. I have rescued 6 (YES 6!!!!) horses she has been responsible for either creating (breeder) or long term owner of. And others I know have recued even more.
I can’t BELIEVE that woman took her to auction, she spent more in fuel to come and get her than the mare sold for and after all the fees and such, she netted a whole $0.05… wow! If she wasn’t working out should could have called or emailed me… did she? NOT ONE WORD! I am in shock, so much so that I am having a hard time even being angry. I’m not a newbie at this… but I am emotionally exhausted by how horrible people are, how inhumae and underhanded and …well, how much I just can’t STAND that I have to share air with some of them. ((sigh)) I wish I were in a position to take Sierra back but I have 2 more rescues now and they’ll definitely end up being here long term so I am out of space and enough in finances to support another. For now.

May be able to take another one if somone is willing to bail out, help with expenses and help find it a home. I am partial to Arabs.”

Great posts by everybody, I couldn’t leave this alone, all the hard work and horses saved, and people outed for being creeps who work to pipeline horses while they line their pockets.

And really glad to hear that the pregnant mare(s?) got saved. Yow.

So my rescue mare (chestnut arab Seaside Dawn Delight) is PREGO!!!

I e-mailed her owner to ask after Liz said she sorta looked like it. Here is the response I got!

    Dear Justanarabgal,
I suppose she could be but chances are slim.
I think that she has a hay belly.
The stallion is really short and doesn’t know he is a stallion yet as far as I know.
I hadn’t paid attention to her heet cycle because she is such a good mare that she doesn’t make a big scene out of it.
Well if she is it can be a registered foal.
What pic had the black colt in it?
You really paid attention to the photos.
    I;m impressed!
If so you can look up his bloodlines.
    His name is Aziz.
He has some pretty good bloodlines.
I hope she is not pregnant.
I am so sorry if she is.
I only kept him a stallion because I knew my mare was getting up there and she is such a good horse I wanted to try to keep that bloodline and traits and also my granddaughter wanted a black foal. Just too bad it wasn’t a filly but he will do.
So I hope she is not unless you would want her pregnant.
You know I didn’t notice anything when I was grooming her but if you are with them every day it slowly creeps upon you.
But hopefully it’s a hay belly.
    Sorry,

Yup….she’s prego. Stallions KNOW when they are stallions….jeez. And I’ve heard of shetlands breeding AQHA..so how short do you have to be before you can’t GET IT UP??? (sorry)

I think the spelling on the stallion is Azizz. My friend Datasourced her last night. We ID’d the old mare too. I hope we hear from whoever got her (for ten dollars). Well, justanarabgal, maybe you got a twofer! Hope she will give the breeder’s certificate if so.

I have a place for 408, Eeyore, to go. Just coordinating the pull. If anyone local can pick her up today and keep her til Saturday, let me know. cathy@horsereunions.com

I need to know if 417 is still on the lot. KL, can you send me all your photographs of horses on the lot please?

I talked to Juliane last night and Ready Say Go was doing very well. He was stiff and sore but eating like a horse :) and perfectly calm in his new home. Drank a ton of water but that’s not surprising. If Ron has water out for them, it’s nasty and gross. He probably wouldn’t drink ’til he got clean water.

Seaside Dawn Delight hopefully isn’t pregnant…

She’s doing really well this morning. She was still pacing a bit yesterday, but much better today. Not being hungry probably helps. I am guessing that she’s a 2.5 to a 3 on the BCS scale. Pictures from yesterday and the day before are here:
    Rescue Arabs photo album

My head is spinning from all this new information. I am so glad I was able to help get these girls out. I wish I could do more, but that has to wait until I am better set up. I won’t be able to go to the November auction, but may be able to go to December’s. If anyone buys any horses next month and needs transport or short term (just a few days) boarding, I may be able to help out (depending on the weather).

Blackhorse and Justanarabgal, I would like all the info you can give me on Lady Mayphair so that I can find her a good quality LONG term home. I was told she was ridden bareback during the auction so now I am wondering if she is greenbroke? She does not like to be caught and is like glue to Szizzle. Both mares are getting their feed done this morning. Szizzle turned up lame this morning, wondering if she is suppose to be on bute? Please contact me at aja19919 at gmail dot com.

402 will be picked up on Saturday. For now, he’ll be staying with aja, ultimate destination will depend on how he vets, but he will NOT be going to Canada tomorrow. If someone wants him and can provide him with a safe home (again pending vet), e-mail me at julia_octavia AT earthlink DOT net. Otherwise, I’m working on finding him a rescue or seeing about moving him east (that also depends on how he vets and space to put him in. I may have a lead on both.)

We had some number mix ups we’ve been correcting as we go along. 408 is a bay TB. Gender TBD. Different stories, LOL! We don’t care. Getting out of there one way or another!

I am so happy that 417 is paid for…klofbd, did you do it? 408 is definitely bailed, we just don’t know if it’s a very lucky girl or a very lucky boy yet!! :)

A group of gals that know Staci pooled the money to save her and now someone that KNOWS her is on their way up there to make sure that 417 really is her as she is a medium bay and not the black the office says is 417 – they sure don’t make it easy! I told her to look underneath 408 while she’s there as well… just so I know if it’s a boy or girl coming to my house for a sleep over!

I think everybody should make blogs for their new rescues. That way we can all see pics and updates, and if you have training or health questions, we can help!

Hey, so I just went back thru the thread on SAFE about these horses and 408 (Eeyore) is a gelding with a swollen leg. There are two dark bay mares on the list that don’t seem to have been saved…435 and 445. I’m wondering if one of them is the mare in the picture with 417 (Staci) that was posted by Malina on the SAFE site a few days back.

Disclaimer: I think everyone here knows this, but I hate to reference SAFE without also mentioning that they are not involved in any way with our efforts here on this list of horses. I am studiously trying to keep mention of them down, as I don’t want anyone to be confused and assume they are involved. They do great work and deserve to have more of their horses adopted, so if anyone wants a completely sane, vetted, well cared for horse go check them out…they have several really nice ones up for adoption now. http://www.safehores.org

    Okay…guilty conscience slightly eased. :)

I am REALLY trying to talk myself out of shipping my guy east. I’m planning to just find him someplace safe.

Who’m I kidding. My neighbor across the road (LITERALLY, as in I can see his paddocks from my living room) pasture-boards for $175/month (yeah, we’s poor ’round these parts–except someone boarding with him has a nice stock trailer and takes his Palominos out for trail rides on weekends–shiny horses) and I’m so close I could feed myself every day and there are always people on COTH with trailer slots or names of trustworthy shippers (I’m so paranoid about the commercial shippers after some on-line horror stories but I know there are ones who are reliable).

If he’s unsound in need of euthanasia and someone dumped him to avoid paying for it I just hope they can sleep at night. I would have given anything to be able to time how my horse went, but he died of a blood clot (EPM-related) and went before the vet could even get to my parents’ place. I understand being broke, that’s why I moved out of MA (because I was going to be broke if I stayed there) but even a bullet is better than sticking an unsound horse on a stock trailer to who knows where. Honestly, even a Canadian slaughterhouse isn’t the absolute WORST place–at least that’s relatively quick. They could end up the starved-to-death carcass on the evening news, or owned by people like those moron vets…you have a live animal, you’re responsible for it. Someone’s responsible for this one now. And AJA’s being an absolute saint here-I’m pretty sure mine isn’t the only one.

When I spoke to the auction, they said the horses are shipping tomorrow morning.

I willing to put $50 for #413 – she is the last Arabian to be saved. klofbd any way to check on this mare to get more info and maybe a photo? No worries if you can’t. I just noticed that no one has expressed an interested in her. Yeah, I konw, can’t save them all.

Apparently the arab gelding that was calling was saying “hey, you morons, I’ve got good bloodlines and deserve better than this.” He’s another nicely bred little guy. Khemosabi, Hal Gazal, Bay El Bey, Gai Parada, Bey Shah, Cal-O-Bask. He may already have a permanent home.

grey arab mare #413 needs help , come on guys. we can do this. I am one of the folks who helped get the grey gelding bailed. My personal theory is this grey mare is his mom. (I know I’m really reaching here) Becasue tsomeone said hey are hanging together, and I’m thinking he was calling for her in the ring. His papers say his dam is grey. He is well bred, hence she would be as well. All the arabs so far have turned out to be pretty nice horses, can’t a few of you work together and scrape a few bucks together and get her?

I am so glad I got my butt down there myself. I found Ruling Flame and a gorgeous, gorgeous pregnant Damascus granddaughter. We need donations to info@secondchanceranch.com but they are seperated out so no accidents in a.m. 408 and 417 are off the lot and the fugaloosa got a home!

I’d like to put out there how incredibly helpful Amy (aja) is being to those of us not on-site who have bought some of the Arabs. If one of you can help out for hip 413 (I am increasingly thinking 402 is headed east, soundness permitting, to meet some Arab friends, but if you are interested and nearby speak up), please consider it! She’s doing a big favor for some of us and for some needy horses.

Hey – I am finally in the house! When I picked up 417 and 408 I made the mistake of going over to see who was left and it really is heart breaking. That big Appy boy is sooo friendly and that tiny little blue eyed paint is just pathetic! I know everyone has been complaining a bit about the big chestnut running everyone around (could this be the gaming champion?) but I really liked his looks. The two Appy fillies are just sad too… surely they won’t bring much meat money as they are so little. Oh, I also liked the darker Appy (think it’s a mare) for an Appy. ;-)

In the pen with the “saved” horses – I totally fell for 402… what a handsome horse he is! I know it said there was something wrong with his RH but I couldn’t see anything – he was herding everyone and LOVES people. It was quite a feat to get my two out without him coming along – he is a determined guy. 461 is just a love… follows you around like a puppy wanting love. I am SOOOO glad that these two are going HOME!

I don’t know how to post pics so I will send fhotd some of Staci and Eeyore in my pasture tonight.

Klofbd: Oh, lord. ;) I have to do my rescuing and donating on-line…if I went to a feedlot I would come back with more than I left with.

I got a quote on shipping 402 east to me, waiting to hear from a couple other licensed shippers (if anyone has any props to give or horror stories to tell on long-distance haulers let me know)….if he vets out at Amy’s (and so far, you and Cathy have both said he appears sound and healthy) I am starting to think that either I have a horse, or one of our local 4-Hers is going to get a very nice guy when I’ve got some work on him. We’ve got a pretty good program around here, but not a lot of inexpensive sale horses in the area–you have to head down in Indiana or north where there’s not as much hay. I really want to have my neighbor with the Arabs have a look at him, too. Unless someone’s noticed a freeze brand or he’s got a racing tattoo we’ll find later, odds are we’ll never know who he is, but she might be able to at least give an educated guess on lines and quality. (Her family bred and showed and she still has a couple lovely Crabbet/Russian horses we’re going to work with in the spring.)

One of the books I’m writing right now is a kid’s book about a girl and her auction rescue…might have to change the horse from a palomino pinto mare to a bay gelding! (Just kidding, that would wreck the title, not that the agent won’t change it anyway as I suck at titles.)

Does anyone have a status update on the Appy Mare that was in the 3rd pen? Little broom tail, darker roaning. She was very gentle but a hefty gal- sure to be in danger? Her number was 442 but couldnt find her on the list above? Just kept thinking about her and was hoping someone picked her up? I thought i found her “paper work” in the office. Said Brandy is her name and 8 year old Appy Done trails n has been on cows. Anybody know anything?

I am posting this again don’t know why I am not seening any of my posts, 461 is home and safe. She is a great horse not a mean bone in her body. Does not like being in quartine. She really wants to be with the other horses. She will get wormed on Monday, Vet will be out the end of the week. Farrier will be out on the 17th.

402, or so I am told, is apparently NOT gentle and calm when being loaded (though given the circumstances who knows what his problem is.) He is currently dubbed “Trouble”! He also appears to be a Morgan/Arab cross or at least not straight Arab. He’s getting a couple weeks letdown and then an eval from a trainer aja’s found (have any of us for whom she’s holding horses mentioned that aja is awesome?) He may just be zooey from being in the pen and then in a new place again, he may have no previous handling. He’s safe for now, though, along with several other Arabs from the list.

I have e-mailed two people about the blue roan appy mare #420 that went through the enumclaw auction. One gal says “Oly” has her, but no one is getting back to me with “Oly’s” contact number. It’s been 2 days now, and I would really like to save this filly. Does anyone have his number or e-mail? I would really like to get this mare from him. You can e-mail me directly at messystessy@yahoo.com Thanks!

OT – But FHOTD, would you be interested in an Auction Report for the Westlock Auction tomorrow? I’m going (but not buying!) and usually prepare one for myself. Warning – it will be sad, sad, sad. They usually run about 4-7 hundred horses and usually by the last hundred or so I’m sitting alone with the KB because everyone else has toodled off to find dinner. . .
