Another day, another drama queen!

trentonMan threatens to shoot horses to protest court order Oh for heaven’s sake. So old coot here gets told by the county to clean up his junkyard of a property (just imagine the conditions the poor horses are living in), refuses and gets sentenced to 90 days in jail, and now he’s having a big drama queen hysterical fit and advertising for gunmen to come shoot his 24 horses. We’ll hope that everybody else has more common sense than he does, noting that the Weld County Sheriff’s Department says they’ll press felony animal cruelty charges against anybody who takes him up on it. This is just like that idiot race trainer who was threatening to shoot all of his horses. Why not threaten to shoot yourself? Oh wait, that might hurt…whether he’s serious or not he’s an idiot. And while we’re at it, I figured I’d do a little research on Mr. Poor Abused Good Citizen Being Unfairly Harrassed By The Eeeevil Government here. Why look, he has been indicted for mail fraud. What a winner! Mr. Parker, stop whining, stop threatening your horses, get off your butt and clean up your shithole of a property! Actually, could you just sell your horses? Just think, then you can pay some dudes off of Craigslist to clean up your property. Problem solved!

A few notes about the new format – I’m still working on it and I don’t know how to get rid of the gray border but thanks Fwoppy for fixing the comments width! EVERYBODY is on moderation; however, so far not a single thing has needed to be edited. I approve whenever I can. I will get previously e-mailed comments added but again, may not be til the weekend. Two jobs, really swamped, you have all heard it before. :-) The reason for the change: Posting of personal information about other people that they objected to (fair enough) and harrassment of people with opposing viewpoints up to and including calling CPS on them, calling their employers, etc. Enough already. You can still disagree to your hearts’ content, but you have to go act like a psycho somewhere else – that’s not going to be taking place here anymore.

A cool story I forgot to tell – at the SAFE show last weekend, someone came up to me and told me they got a rescue because they read this blog and learned about how many great horses are in need! Their rescue is quite the horse, a massive dark bay gelding who looks like he might be part warmblood. He packed the young daughter around like a champ – nothing bothered him in the least. So to Bubba and his family, a big shout out and my wishes for many happy years together!

FYI – some notes on the new format:I am still trying to fix the format and just don’t have a lot of time ’til the weekend. Fwooper did help me fix how wide the comments page was – thank you!

Crazy-ass boy for trying to make his horses pay because he is ticked off! I mean, really… didn’t everyone get over those kind of temper tantrums in kindergarten? That being said… I’m not sure it ought to be felony animal cruelty to shoot a horse as a method of euthanasia. Now… if these oh-so-qualified yahoos that he gets from his lovely fliers F-Up and *don’t* manage to successfully put the horse down cleanly with a single shot, THAT certainly ought to be worth the police’s attention.

    =] whoop whoop, you’re back!!

As far as shooting horses, if you can’t afford to put a horse down the humane way then you shouldn’t own a horse, much less 24 horses. What an idiot.

Well its not illegal to shoot your horses as a form of euthanasia, but it is illegal to shoot them in public. Which is what he plans to do. He says he’s going to shoot them in public, for a week, in 4 places. He has also been convicted of assault, he has left messages at the company who is making him clean his shit up, saying that he is going to stab the horses 3 or 4 times in the belly to kill the foal, and then “Bash the mares brains in.” That my friends is animal abuse, oh and another thing he plans to do to protest, is starve his horses because they made him clean up his piece of shit shed that he kept hay in. All in all this man is a fuckhead (Excuse my language) And he needs to have a stay in the loony bin.

Yes, one of the oldest threats in the book.

Usually used against kids by their parents for some transgression by the kid.

“You are bad, so we’re getting rid of your pet”.

    Charming, just charming.

Well, it looks BETTER, at least. ;) Go you!

Here’s the reason the whole page does not have a white background:

    #page { background: url("http://www.fuglyblog.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickbg-ltr.jpg") repeat-y top; border: none; }

It’s on line 8 of your header.php file, located in the same directory as your style.css file. Apparently you have to get rid of those lines to fix the background issue.

This is the link to your stylesheet:

It is ABOVE those other lines, and according to the rules of CSS, what comes later down on the page/in the stylesheet file takes precedence and OVERRIDES what comes above, if there are two style declarations for the same element. So, in this case, your style.css file says the element #page should have a white background, but then comes this rouge style thing in the header.php file and says “Nuh uh! You’re wrong, I’m right and the #page should have NO background COLOR but a background IMAGE!” and that’s what happens.

Since I guess you took my advice and deleted the image from the server, well, there is nothing to display, but the white bg is still being overridden.

There are some issues with the front page too, I’ll have a look later, if it’s not fixed when I come back. :)

Okay, the code isn’t showing up: THIS is the link to your stylesheet:

    link rel=”stylesheet” href=”http://www.fuglyblog.com/wp-content/themes/default/style.css” type=”text/css” media=”screen”

Except with actual tags. Yes. The #page is wrapped in style tags.

I was reading the story about his farm and all around it… For me seems that he is just a cornered poor rat, and his promises to kill horses… For me this poor guy is just going mental over the zoning rules – seems he is the last one there with small, neat parcels around and… you know… horses produce manure, they stink! ;) So for me it seems that all this mess about his violations is to get him out of there, and the land will be divided in more neat parcels for more neat, little mansions with neat little lawns instead of “stinky horses”… So boy did what he thought will be he best to get attention. And he made it into news for last few days. So his idea is working.
Before I would take his threatens too serious I would like to look at his horses – do they look cared and loved? If yes, this all is just some kind of a “one man war” against legislation pushing him too far. At least it looks like that for me now.

The “Gentleman” threatening his horses? Somebody who really cared about his animals wouldn’t make threats like that whether he intended to carry them out or not!

One of the comments on the original story, look at the bottom of the page, says that they are trying to put a highway through. So maybe this guy is being harassed? Not just insane, but perhaps a bit unstable and it is made worse by pressure from local government?

i don’t know where this guy lives, but in our area (mchenry county, illinois) you are expected to live in a clean, well-maintained property. it has nothing to do with zoning laws, or the mcmansions wanting your land (i mean, really, in THIS economy??). i agree wholeheartedly that big brother should be coming down on his sorry butt. we do not live in the middle ages anymore. step up to the plate, buddy, and clean up your property. i would be very surprised if his animals were very well-kept, most places that i have seen that were disasters usually had sorry-looking animals as well.

From the comments section of the news story:
    <<>>

If this is true then I don’t blame the guy for being mad and maybe threatening to shoot his horses is a last ditch effort to get people to pay attention to his plight. He had probably been left alone to do whatever until the county decided they wanted his land. Who among us who live in the country don’t see all kinds of folks bending the rules on whats allowed and not allowed. All of a sudden the county wants his land, they aren’t offering him enough money for it and suddenly they are all over him about permits and what not. Not sayiing the guy is blameless but it sure sounds like something that could happen. Next thing the county is going to condemn his property citing imminent domain and take it from him. It could happen, it HAS happened elsewhere. Not saying the guy is blameless. If I thought the county might try something like this with my property you can bet that I would get all my duckies lined up in a neat little row right quick and make sure my property was in compliance with county ordinance.

Still don’t think he should ever have threatened to shoot his horses, just makes him look like a lunatic but I guess you’ve gotta be half crazy to even make such a threat. Hope for the horses sake someone intervenes on their behalf.

The quote from the comments section of the news story didn’t show up on my previous post for some reason…here is is:

this whole thing is a bought the fact that the county is trying to steal his property to put a new highway through .they wont offer him enough money to buy enough property to raise his horses on. he has been on that property for more than 10 years the county is using their made up rules to get his land cheap now that they want it for development. big government walking all over someone

I wouldn’t say he is cornered. Pictures of the property show quite a few old trailers (who needs more than one?!) that he uses to store hay. He’s been under orders since December of 07. So, knowing that, he’s had over a year to dispute, appeal, etc and find a way to do as they’ve asked.

Yes, the horses look well cared for, so no gripes on that front. Although if I were the investors which own the property and horses you bet your bottom dollar I would, at this point, find a NEW caretaker. If the man I had working for me was treating the property like a junkyard, accused of assault, and then threatening to kill my horses (whether a bid for attention or NOT)…Well, you get the picture. Too much consistent violence.

Not to mention the fact that the National Horse Rescue Association is involved and willing to take in most, if not all, of the horses. They wouldn’t be going to slaughter through that course, unless they ended up with bad owners after the fact.

IMHO, this is ridiculous. He had a year and a half to sell or otherwise dispose of those trailers and find a different way to store hay. Many of us just lay down some sort of pallet, stack hay, and then cover in tarps. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it’d look cleaner than his “renovated” trailers!

Here’s a link for a video, which has footage of the property. Look at all the homes and trailers that are strung out on the property!
    http://www.cbs4denver.com/video/?id=61227@kcnc.dayport.com

I wouldn’t want to drive by that everyday, much less live next to it. And as you can see from the footage, there are no small, neat parcels around him at all! He’s surrounded by property. You can see what looks to be another farm in the background.

And all that doesn’t even touch the legal ramifications. It’s illegal in Colorado (according to the video) to “euthanize” (by stabbing his mares in the belly? Come ON!) based on the descriptions of the horses. All are healthy.

I do feel some sort of sorry for the guy mainly because he doesn’t own the property or the horses. But he has been the “caretaker”, and he has been failing spectacularly in caring for the property.

    Just MHO.

    Hi Fwooper!

OK I deleted that part from header.php. Didn’t fix it. There must be something else.

Why can’t WordPress have a nice WYSIWYG editor for busy people? :-)

Your help is appreciated! I’ll tackle it again on my lunch hour.

Also, I installed the Gravatar plugin which is supposed to give you avatars. Now, how to load them? Your guess is as good as mine. I have to figure that out too!

Hmm. The deleted part only actually disappeared from the single entry pages, not from the front page. That is WEIRD.I emailed you with “WORDPRESS HELP from Fwooper” in the subject line.

For Gravatar avatars, you’ve got to go to gravatar.com and “register” your email. It’ll associate your email with an avatar, and if you’ve used the same email addy to register here on FHOTD, your avatar will show up. I can see mine, can anyone else?

Hi all! I normally lurk but I’m coming out from under my rock to comment on this gem~

It’s really a pity there isn’t a law against being an a**hole (but the jails are already overcrowded). I saw the video and bless that woman’s heart for stepping up and taking care of those horses.

I guess there really isn’t a point to this comment-I just needed everyone to know I think that guy’s an a**hole.

Thanks and I’ll go back under my rock enjoying the site and it’s new format!

I live in this area of Colorado….

I’m a bit suspicious of Katie Wetherbee and the “National Horse Rescue Ass’n.” I Googled it, and the ONLY mention is in connection with this story. We’ve got plenty of credible horse rescues in Colorado. No signs of their involvement, yet. The horses in the video are shiny and fat.

The man may be a cretin, but I’m on his side. (Assuming his threats are empty.) We have been having a hell of a lot of abuse of “eminent domain” around here.

DH and I were in danger of losing our place, because some FOR PROFIT outfit wanted to build a toll road, north through the state, east of the Front Range congestion. They were looking for the land FIVE MILES on either side of this road! Just a money grab; anyone who wanted to build a gas station would have to lease or buy from them.

Then they could condemn our place (and our neighbors) for much less than market value. Where are we supposed to move to? We wouldn’t be able to buy a similar property with what they’d give us.

Luckily, the legislature shut it down. But I’m alert for future threats.

Towns, also, are being very greedy about annexing surrounding land, in hopes of mega tax bucks from new subdivisions being built. Colorado is home to the 3 fastest growing counties in the nation. It is not unheard of for city governments to fine property owners, daily, until they owe the gov more than the property’s worth. Then the gov can condemn it, rezone it, subdivide it, and sell it to developers.

It’s easy to say “get rid of the trailers.” I invite any of you to do some research into disposing of old, uninhabitable house trailers. Scrap metal people won’t take them; neither will dumps. (I tried to get rid of one about 37 years ago – before all the EPA laws.) You have to tear them apart yourself, or pay someone to take them. How is an old man caring for so many horses gonna find the time/strength/money to do that? Without endangering the horses? (Think fiberglass insulation blowing in the wind…)

Is storing hay in an old trailer any less aesthetic than big hay piles with flapping tarps? Building a hay barn is expensive.

There. That’s my rant of the day.

Ruthie, going out to exercise (shoveling manure)

That’s very true. I don’t think anybody would say it was easy to find a way to dispose of trailers, but he did have a year and a half to do it…

And aside from that, I don’t see what the building a highway has to do with it anyway, as he doesn’t own the property OR the horses.
