Welcome to the new and improved Fugly Blog!
Aug 24 2009
We are still trying to migrate over all of the old comments so that may happen as we go along. The sheer volume seems to make WordPress somewhat unhappy but we’re working on it.
You will need to register again – your google account won’t work for this version. Just click on “no comments” under this post and it’ll get you to a screen where you can do that.
The blog will continue to be mostly uncensored and different opinions will continue to be welcomed, but if your posts show that you have not taken your meds, they will not get through.Â
Thanks and enjoy the new and improved blog!
ETA – and as I was trying to fix the comments and make them wider, I messed up the entire design. Please ignore it for now. I’ll get it figured out when I have some time if it doesn’t happen tonight!

Yaaaay. Congrats on the new blog, Fugs!

The new blog looks pretty good! Just one thing–the orange and brown banner looks very garish on both color scheme options.
Very happy to have comments back!
Always a good idea to have this in your pasture- http://image5.equinenow.com/132436_1/snip_bracelets.jpg
woohoo!.. O_o;.. It will take come getting used to.
Glad to have you back.
Well, I was trying to fix how narrow the comments are and somehow I messed up the entire design.
I HATE CSS. Someday I’m going to write a blog about how MUCH I hate CSS.
Sorry, trying to fix it all now!
LOL…my daughter is great at CSS!! She says she “loves” doing it! hahaha
Of course, she loves coding all sorts of HTML stuffs. Argh. Not me. ;P
Blazeh (SFTS’ daughter): /smiles-
I love HTML but CSS has me baffled. How did styles.css change because I was editing comments.php? That makes no sense.
Just what I need, yet another user ID and password! Ah well. Welcome back FHOTD
So Glad To Have You Back, GIRL YOU JUST DON’T KNOW!!!!!!!!!
Finally….
Gasp.
Glad you’re back……….maybe everyone will play nice for the most part!
Once again, it took me forever to figure out how to sign in. Geezo. I’m never going to get this computer stuff down.

Sounds like your daughter needs to meet Fugly.
HP…
Firefox…
It will do your logging in and remember all your passwords except certain banks. A good thing.
It also spell checks
KP2-they don’t have a choice now, back to horses, YEEEEHAAAAA!
Comments, yay!
Why is the whole blog off center?
Will you still put up the Friday comments?
Thank God your back! I have been lost without my daily “Fugly Fix!”
Ugh, ok, I have to go out and do stalls…if anybody knows how to remove that stupid gray border and make the sidebar color change, leave me the instructions. My eyes are crossing looking at that damn styles.css file.
Wow!
You are back!
I don’t know what to say. I do know I can not say ‘First”!
Blazeh: SFTS’ daughter here again. C: Ah… I copied and pasted the page source into my testing Webs page and figured one thing out – the style and HTML/CSS stuff is somewhere totally different I don’t have access to. ^^ Mom will e-mail you if you’d like my help!
Good to have our site back, but this does look a bit odd in Safari…
YAY glad you’re back online. Yes, I have Firefox and it’s great; really customisable. The spell check is great except I’m in Australia and it uses US dictionary so I don’t always agree with it (see customisable above) but good to have nonetheless.
Let’s hope everyone can ‘play nice’ with their posts.
Have absolutely no idea about css files etc so good luck with that : )
Um, so where is the link for the Free Speech message board?
I’m not seeing it where it usually is…
Good to have the comments back, hope they stay sane. Even though I missed some of the interaction, I didn’t miss the bickering….it was nice to read everyone’s opinion from a fresh perspective.
Man, I am so glad the comments are back. As much as I loved hanging around JR’s blogs, they were no substitute.
I’m also glad we probably won’t have any drug-addicted stalkers here, but does this mean there won’t be any trolls to flame, either? That was half the fun.
Liking the red better
Hey Fugly,
Here’s what I’d edit:
#page {Â
width: 960px;
padding 20px;
background-color: #fff;}
Remove the entire background property that is already there, it’s what causing the grey border.
.widecolumn {
width: auto;}
Removing the text-align: justify; from .commentlist is generally considered to improve readabiliy, but that is just a tip, won’t help with the layout.
I THINK all this should work smoothly, I’ve tested it as well as I can without being able to actually edit your styles file.
I have built several sites with WordPress (and CSS), I’d be happy to help if you need it.
Okay, having realized your banner is only 798px wide, I have changed my mind!
#page {
width: 798px;
padding: 0;
background-color: #fff; }
Remove other background property as described above.
.widecolumn {
width: auto;}
#content {
padding: 20px;}
The padding is to give the text some air to breathe, so it’s not stuck on the edge of the white area. Which is just, er, fugly and makes it hard to read.
Anxious to see the finished product. All looks a little wonky on my screen right now but am sure you’ll have it looking great in no time. GG
Glad the comments are back, hope the insane ones stay away.
Yeah, Fugs! I missed the comments!
Fwooper – Tried that and I still have that darn grey border, and the content area is still not wide enough. Baffled. I don’t have time to work on it until tomorrow unfortunately – sorry guys, the fugly blog is going to be fugly a while longer!
What? o.O
Ok, I found it. Apparently you have a style declaration for #page in your HEAD element, remove that. Entirely. It is of no use whatsoever, no idea why it’s there.
It might be something your theme is outputting there, via PHP, but it shouldn’t do that… If you cannot find the style element, you can do it the quick and dirty way, by putting your stylesheet link below everything else in your HEAD element, especially below your wp_head(); statement. It SHOULD make the style.css file override the style tag in your head element.
Oh, you will have to add background:none; to your #page styles, to specify that #page should have no background.
If it does not, put another style tag below the wp_head(); function that says
#page {
background-image: none;
background-color: #fff;}
to override the weird extra style tag you have there.
Don’t know about the width yet, looking into it now.
OR! Hey, even quicker way – delete the image itself from the server. It’s here:
http://www.fuglyblog.com/wp-content/themes/default/images/kubrickbgwide.jpg
Navigate to that folder and kill the image.
It’s not the CORRECT way, but it will work.
Um, sorry for spamming! I just want FHOTD to be readable. :p
But here’s your width problem:
.widecolumn {
float: right
padding: 10px 0 10px 0;
margin: 5px 0 0 10px;
width: 240px;}
This is on line 275 of your style.css file, in case you have an editor that shows you line numbers. Easier to find stuff that way.
Anyhow, that width is what’s making everything so narrow – change it to width:auto; to make it fill out all of the white area.
Yea, the world is back on kilter.
Even the comments centered up while I was registering.
Things are looking up. I also just found out the bank accepted my bid, I’m going from renter to home owner!
Great Job!!
I am leaving a comment because I can. It took me forever to figure out how to register but I finally found it. Woo Hoo – it is the small things!
I am not breeding my beautiful Registered, great bloodlines Morgan Mare because I do not want to worry that something may happen down the line. However, I now have my baby fix. I am the proud owner of a miniature baby mule, and boy, I will have my work cut out for me!
Welcome Back! Does this mean you can kick us out of the sandbox if we don’t play nice?
Formerly “horsndogluvr.” Now under my usual horse blog and forum nickname.
So glad comments are back up!
Happily,
Ruthie
Well, it took going around in circles a bit, but I am now signed up. Whew…
Glad the comments are back.
What happened to the Free Speach Message Board?
Welcome to WordPress. The learning curve is steeper than Blogger, but it’s much better.
Whoa.
This is really weird looking on my Mac…
And it was not easy to figure out how to register. Maybe it is a Mac thing that I had no indication what was a link or what was clickable… but my peanut brain finally put it all together.
DOH.
Yay! Comments!
BTW, site is wonky in Fire Fox.
Hey! Congrats on the new blog — and good luck with all the formatting.
Never have to worry about someone guessing the password they send….took me 3 tries to figure out the O from the 0
YAY!!! Comments
I just had to say it lol
Great to see the new blog up an running.
YAY!!! While I won’t miss some of the posters that I assume won’t be allowed on, I did miss everyone else’s insight, comments, and sarcasm!!! Good to have the comments back!
Not sure I understand the reason for the new site, but I guess it’s okay–is there any way to change that Gawdawful “computer generated” password? I will NEVER be able to remember it, and will have great difficulty typing it in each time I want to log on.
Other than that, perfect. ;o)
*grabs her usual username. Mwah!*
It’s not just wonky in Firefox, TashGaia
Well, I didn’t read the comments that caused the blog to be “arrested”, but I am sure glad you’re back in action! Good luck with the set ups Fugs
Test test test testies…
… I mean…
*snicker*
Glad to see the comments back. The blog just wasn’t the same without the additional reader-generated snark!
very cool that the comments are back, fugs. i missed my horsey-cyber friends and the broad base of knowledge, humor and compassion that they brought (for the most part) to this blog.
I am usually a “lurker” but Fuggs knows me from Nebraska.
Nice site BTW
Hand up, here. I admit that I cannot see pink print on brick brown background. Take pity on the elderly among us.
TBDancer:
All you have to do is click on your username above the comment box “Logged in as ________.”
It will take you to your account page. Scroll down and you have an option to change your password.
You can change your password on your WP profile page.
FiSH isn’t Fugly’s anymore, she probably isn’t going to link to it. Bookmark it the next time you visit there.
hey you gotta check out this CL ad!
Great place to take photos at.. gettin his leg caught in a latter, no big deal! Just waitin for that kids head to get smashed in!
http://kpr.craigslist.org/grd/1342729772.html
Yay!! And to everyone who wants to change their password, go to your prefrences and it’s at the bottom of the page
I did mine as soon as I logged in for the first time!
Oh! I’m so glad to see the comments are back! I learn so much from other people’s input (unless it’s a bunch of useless, personal bickering).
I’m glad to read that such garbage is going away!
Yya, so glad to see responses allowed again. someday, you’ll have to guest on Weas’s new blog: Psychotic Web Replies from Horsewomen, and share all the yummy dramah with those of us who missed it.
Don’t we get to have Avatars?
Well done on getting comments again.
to TBDancer – you can change the password in your profile but you can just flag the email to keep it stored.
Yay! We’re back! Now I will be able to go back to my old unproductive ways by spending too much time reading these comments instead of working!
So glad!! ~~~~~group hug~~~~~
TBDancer – you can change your password – go to your profile and enter a new one.
This is nice!! I’m sure all the kinks will get worked out in time.
TBDancer, if you go to your profile, at the very bottom, you can type in a new password. It asks you to do it twice. Then just hit save. LOL! There is no chance in the world that I would remember the generated one either!
Once you are logged on you can go to Profile and change your password. You can copy and paste the password they sent you. Makes it easier and faster to log on.
Well, I am certainly very glad that this blog has weathered its storm, and is back up.
So many good kernels of wisdom to be gleaned from very knowledgeable, equine professional posters.
I have learned so much here over the years- news stories, the bad, the shocking and occasional good that is the world of horses that was found immediately nowhere else.
I’ll always be grateful for the real-time continuing education found here.
Best wishes for continuing success.
Hope everyone saw the NYT piece on unwanted TBs? Go to http://video.on.nytimes.com/ and click “Where go racehorses go?”
Glad to see comments back! On another note, check out this story today in Colorado about a guy looking for help in shooting horses: http://www.denverpost.com/commented/ci_13203997?source=commented-
I don’t know how to make the link work here, but Google Weld County Colorado Horses and it comes up at the top of the list.
Now I’ve seen it all! Over on Horsetopia Forum there’s an 18 month old baby riding a yearling in a class at the County Fair. According to the poster “blonde 03us” she knows all her horses and trusts them. That explains why the yearling in the lead line class is saying “What the F…… is going on?”
Of course. Only on Horsetopia! And they wonder why an entire board exists to make fun of them…
I will work on the blog format on my lunch hour today. Hope to get the glitches ironed out! Thanks for your patience.
Crap. Fugly, if you’re going to moderate comments, could you at least do some editing? This happens on Cakewrecks too, where someone asks a question and there are forty replies to that question, only no one knows because the comments are waiting in the que, and a 100 post thread becomes 400 posts of repeats. If it’s a simple question (like password changes, or what’s that in the picture) already answered by someone else, more thoroughly than I said it, and there’s nothing else to my comment, I wouldn’t care if it didn’t show up on the blog.
Is anyone else having trouble viewing the page properly? I’m on a Mac and everything is squished over to the left. The actual blog entries are off kilter as well.
- Tara
Fugly, I’ve been playing around on the WP profiles page and I have a couple of questions.
Would the Gears link under the Tools on the sidebar (also found when you click Turbo in the top R corner) be a good download for this blog?
When I click the Dashboard, and see 845 posts, 33,069 comments, with two not approved and one pending, are those your blog stats? I don’t think I’ve made 33k comments in my whole time on the tubes! It’s kind of cool that we can see when another WP blog links to yours.
Are you going to allow avatars? It looks like it’s your decision:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
Also, comment links should be a different color than just text so we know when someone has linked something. My previous comment has the links the same color as the text until it’s hovered over.

Fugly, I can’t find your email, but we need the attention your blog brings to this horror story:
http://denver.craigslist.org/grd/1343276214.html
Please help! 24 horses will be executed in protest of ZONING ORDINANCES. What can I do? What can my community do?
Welcome back Cathy !
Missed the good information on here. Did not miss the crazys.
Good luck with the new format….Lisa
Yay! Finally got wordpress to play nice with my BB. I was formally known as Lady Andais.
littledog – go to gravatar.com and get an avatar associated to the same email address you registered with here, and it’ll show up next to your FHOTD comments.
Using Firefox. Finally got a username and password to actually work. But the comments are in a little tiny column on the leftside, with lots of blank on the right side. Are other Firefox users seeing the same thing?
OK Fwooper! You rock, you fixed the column width on the comments page. I was worried about it screwing up the two columns being side by side on the main page. I kept having my right side column wind up on the bottom.
I can NOT figure out how to get rid of the gray border but I’ll keep messing with it.

Probably the TOP (& most desired) feature of WP.
Something tells me the blog will live on.
Hey! Fwooper has a avatar! I want too tell me how to get one!
I have an avatar!!!! Thank you!
Yay, yay! Glad to see you back again. Really missed the snark from the readers, and glad comments have been allowed.
I promise to take my Prozac faithfully.
: )
Thanks, Fugs.
How or where might I find the free speech forum?
Thank you for continuing to make a site available for us Fugly Fans to congregate in and commiserate with you on the seemingly endless supply of stupid human tricks inflicted on poor unsuspecting horses.
TBDancer, the change was because, reading between the lines, Blogger told her she had to close the comments down due to the behavior of certain individuals. As this blog really wouldn’t be what it is without the comments, she’s moved it to her own site where SHE has FULL control over what is said and not said.
