Something scary for Halloween!

I guess I should have posted this yesterday, to have something scary up on Halloween!

Gawd, not only is this thing structurally yucky (check out the shoulder, he should ride with all the smoothness and comfort of an Army issue Jeep), but he is small, skinny, wormy looking and appears to be living in a place that resembles the surface of the Moon. Nice.

The best part, as always! – is the delusion displayed in the ad text. My comments in blue, as usual.

“Juju is a tobiano paint colt who will be 2 in april. He is on the smaller side which is why i am selling him. Did you know that when you feed them properly, they grow? It’s true! It’s like magic! My friend has a 13.3 hand stocky, filled-out five month old – perhaps I can send you a picture for reference? I am very sad to sell him becasue he is an awesome horse. He has been worked with since birth (imprinted)and has THE BEST temperment. It’s freakin’ amazing how quiet they are when they’re skinny and wormy, isn’t it? You wouldn’t want to feed them and make them hot or anything! He has no stud habits and is willing to do anything. Of COURSE, he’s NOT GELDED, how did I just fucking KNOW? Since that shitty shoulder and hip just scream Stallion Quality! Juju has packed a saddle, 3 yr olds have sat on him and been led around of course they have, $10 said you’d be Mom of the Year along with Breeder of the Year, loads in trailer(practically on his own) well duh he’s hoping to be taken somewhere there is some decent food! I’d load too!, stands for ferrier I always wonder who the ferrier is. Does he have fur and a tail? No wait, that’s the furrier. No, wait, maybe the furrier hunts ferriers? That must be it. and vet, bathes ,clips and ties. This is going to be the easiest horse to finish and a perfect child’s horse. I was really hoping to keep him becasue who is this Beca Sue you keep talking about? he has great markings he’s a garden variety tobiano like a thousand other colts headed for slaughter as we speak and a one of a kind temperment. If kept as a stud i honestly think he will remain laid back and very calm. If kept as a stud, I will hurl. He loves kids and loves attention. He’s hoping those kids have food, too. He is not stupid! He will back up if you pull on his tail as opposed to kicking you in the head which is what he really should do and he naturally overstrides what? Are you talking about overreaching like it’s a good thing? I’m lost… little kids walk him down the road with no problem. He walks over tarps, through water, over logs, anything you name it he is willing to try in the hopes that he will be rewarded with food. He has NEVER bit or kicked or offered a buck to anyone Again, amazing how underfeeding guarantees a good “temperment” every time! It’s the lazy horse trainer’s key to success! . This horse is truely awesome. At this point I would have to agree that he is awesomely tolerant and deserves a better home! I have more pictures that i can send upon request. I am asking $2000 because i feel he is worth that and way more. I feel that George Clooney should stop dating those scrawny models and find a nice girl like myself who can clean a mean stall, but that feeling is not based in reality. Neither is yours. I will consider all offers. He is up to date on all vaccinations. Dont miss out on this excellent horse. Im not sure how tall he will be so he may be a pony or small horse. Both his parents were 15.2 hands. and he would have been too if he weren’t stunted thanks to you. I would finish him on my own but he is too small for me. since there has been PLENTY of food for me, that’s been a high priority budget item, way above buying that expensive California hay!

And the madness continues…

    cnsdubie,

I think your breed is safe from Juju’s owner. It says on his dream horse ad he’s APHA. I’ve used the term for all sorts of breeds, quarter horses, Arabians, TBs. I’ve always thought it was desirable for any type of horse. Maybe not one of those dead looking WP horses… and I don’t think most halter horses could even TRY. Imagine if “Kids Classic Style” (wasn’t he the Hippo/Horse?) could overstride / overtrack.

I’ll be pretty darn ticked if she gets $2,000 for that untrained little almost 2 year old. I can’t sell my trained 8 year old Pinto gelding for just a little bit over that! I really hesitate to lower the price too much because I don’t want him to go to someone who can barely afford a horse.

The problem with Hollywood is all the ones who are hot are gay or bi. Trying to find a straight, hot actor is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And if you find one…they’re bipolar or have massive substance abuse issues.

But hey, they’re fun to look at!

I was pretty sure, as soon as I read the word “fugly” in the post, that it was a FHOTD reader, or someone with similar views, who luckily happened upon the “fugly” term. Please do understand, when I wrote that I would love to breed my mare to that stallion, I was definitely being sarcastic.

:) Whoever is the “mystery” poster, good job. I wonder how many responses you get from people who are serious about breeding. It would be interesting for someone to photoshop a horrid looking “PAINT” horse (maybe with Appy spots on the butt) and post it as the next new great stallion for ??? discipline, just to see how many serious responses you get. I don’t have photoshop, or the time, but it’d be pretty funny!

Okay, I am going to ask you guys this. Does anyone else get really mad at us humans about the state of animals on this planet, or is it just me? Yesterday, it was really cold and windy here, so I spent the evening in front of the tube. I love Animal Planet, so I spent most of my time there. First, Jane Goodall had a show on the chimps. They showed the baby chimps who had been taken from their dead mothers who had been shot for “bush meat”, god, they were sooooo cute, I just wanted to kill someone. Then, I watched Houston Animal Cops, and the show was about 11 bears and 2 tigers that had been kept in tiny cages with no water for YEARS, the guy would come by a few times a day and spray them in the mouth with a hose. I was sooooo sad for the critters. Then this morning I happened to catch a thing on some TV star who had recently been attempting to stop the Japanese fishermen from slaughtering dolphins, it didn’t work. The group trying to stop the dolphins from being killed were in tears, it was terrible. So, is it just me, or are there other animal saps who have had about all they can take???

4thehorses – I am soooo with you here! I use to watch the animal cop shows on Animal Planet but it always made me so angry (to the point of tears) that I had to stop. (No longer a problem, since we moved we don’t have cable.) It is so sad that even with all the organizations that are dedicated solely to animals there are still so many suffering out there. Makes me sick! And yes, when I see an animal (ANY animal) in poor condition or in an unsafe environment you bet I’m knocking on that door asking WTF is going on! There are far to many stupid people in this world!

WTF is Red Chocolate and Silver Bay???

Silver bay is the silver dapple gene (Zz) working on top of bay. Silver dapple lightens the mane, tail and body, so in silver bay you can get effectively a bay horse with a white mane and tail, but in less extreme examples you get a mucky looking chestnut with a greyish mane and slightly darker legs than usual on a chestnut.

Silver dapple on black gives a chocolate coloured body with a mane which can be anything from yellowish, through silver, to pure white.

Silver dapple does not show on chestnut, so I have not idea what a “red chocolate” is supposed to be!

Silver dapple is found in Icelandics, Rocky Mountain horses, and various other breeds.

If you have a look on http://www.solva-icelandics.co.uk you’ll see some silver dapple blacks.

We moved in April ’06 to our little place in the country. Had no cable for slightly more than a year. My younger daughter had watched Animal Planet since practically BIRTH, so she thought she would die without cable. Finally we beat my husband into submission and he agreed sign us up for Dish Network. I had hoped that in the time we’d been “away” from Animal Planet, the shows spotlighting abuse and neglect would have dwindled away because the world might have improved somewhat. What a Pollyanna sap I am to have ever hoped as much.

Jane Goodall has always been one of my heroines.

Kevin Costner is a whore in real life? Really? (Okay, how much? Not that it really matters, as I am happily married and very, very horsepoor. … Still…)

Cool stories, Neb. My husband is exceedingly white, but wonderful and a fine person and mighty cute to boot, and we’ve been married for 25 years!! so I think I’d be OK with Costner’s “whiteness.” Not sure whatcha meant by that?

I use the term ‘silver bay’ a lot when describing miniatures. It’s a prevelant color in the breed.

I believe ‘Red Chocolate’ is having a brown mane and tail and being a red color? Or is it vice versa?

Horse color genetics have never been my bag… mostly because I think people who breed for color are worthless piles of crap. :D

I think Kevin Costner is cute, but he just has never sounded very “MANLY” to me, so when he tries to play a tough guy, it kind of falls flat. JMO.

whoever posted this colt, saying he had a big butt…

    http://www.dreamhorse.com/show_horse.php?form_horse_id=1107909

is wrong… he’s positioned to APPEAR that way to draw buyers into buying his fugly grulla ass. If you look at all their ‘sales offerings’, they all MAJORLY lack withers, and have jacked up front legs. Hips aren’t bad, but IMO, hips aren’t going to get you anywhere if your saddle won’t stay put and your horse’s front legs won’t stay sound. ;)

Okay, I know he’s sold, but I had to post this…

LOOK AT THOSE FRONT LEGS!! Are those long, crooked pasterns or WHAT?!

I like a big butt on a working QH, not the ones on those alien halter horses. The ones that I rode as a kid in TX all had the huge muscled up butts of working horses. They did it all, cutting, reining and working cow horse.

I will find a pic of WaterGap to show you what I like in a QH butt, hehe. Sounds like I am talking nasty talk.

Costner? I’ve often wonder why he had a personality-ectomy after Bull Durham. Every movie he’s made since then, he’s been as wooden as a cigar store indian. He showed a glimmer of his previous (limited) charm in that stupid movie with Jennifer Aniston, but other than that…bleah. On the other hand, being wooden and expressionless sometimes works: It was effective in No Way Out. I haven’t seen Mr. Brooks, so I can’t judge his performance there.

On the other hand, never liked Clooney much, but he’s winning me over. Surprised at the accusation that he’s a “phony.” Most people seem to regard his involvement in good causes as pretty genuine, not that I care about that as it reflects on his performance as an ACTOR (i.e., he can be as phony or non-phony as he wants, if he give s a good performance in a film, I can still enjoy it. If he’s a genuinely nice guy, that’s just a bonus).

OMG, I hope that it isn’t George but it would figure cuz they were just machines to that family. I don’t know if George had it but all of the Lane’s horses had a 2L freeze brand on them. The L came down from the bottom of the 2. He would have Double Lane Farms or Buddy Lane on his papers. Also, that farm was in Gustine TX.

George was a big sorrel, the old QH build, He was not really into being loved on but I assume that was due to him being a “machine”.

He was a natural at cutting. They put me on him to try to see if I would be dumped. I was the kid from Cali that shouldn’t know how to ride, LOL. They didn’t tell me that he was a cutter so of course he dumped me, well I fell off he didn’t do it on purpose.

We were out gathering the cows and calves for their shots and to castrate the calves. I was bringing up the rear when a cow and calf took off to the right and good ole George went with them and I ended up on my feet in the spot where he turned. It was so quick that I didn’t realize what had happen for a bit. Of course they were all laughing at me.

The great part was that George brought that cow and calf to the pen all on his own. Then Buddy got on him and WOW that horse could move!

Re. Costner: “loser dust”…heh. Now, now, I wouldn’t go *that* far. Just don’t let the boy direct, ok? He’s pretty good in other folks’ films.

Angel…halo: He still thinks he’s “all that”, at least he did on “The Postman” (was that really almost 10 years ago? Aaaaagh!) His parents came out to the set in Metaline Falls, WA. Somebody asked them (might have been my hubby) what they thought of their little boy’s efforts, and they said something like “Just hope he’s not getting a swell head over it.” (paraphrase) In my experience the guy who plays the evil villain is usually a straight-up, gentlemanly, grounded fellow. Will Patton (Postman) sure was, and how about Jason Isaacs? (Patriot, Peter Pan, Harry Potter). Salt of the earth (plus “hubba hubba”).

I will say this about Costner, though. On the Arizona set for “Postman” (bad guy’s fortress) there was a scene where the AD was giving directions to the “bad guy” cavalry to come charging through the gates into the fortress at a gallop. Costner (directing), interrupted and said, “Um, no. How about a nice controlled canter? Let’s not get crazy here.” (paraphrase again, but you get the idea.) See, he’s not all bad.

Angel: Yes, that’s the guy. He’s a very sweet man and deadly talented. We’re about the same age, only he’s a LOT sexier (lol). My husband ran the Green Dragoons (which Isaacs played the Commander of) in The Patriot. On his last day, hubby and his dragoons took Mr. Isaacs out to dinner. He told us he had been offered the part of Elrond in LotR! I told him he’d be perfect for it (he could SO be Liv Tyler’s daddy, unlike her real, scary one), but he said it just didn’t fit into his schedule. Fooey. Anyway, at the end of the meal he snatched the check and paid for ALL of us (about 30 people) even though we had dragged him out.

At the premier in LA, I told him I loved his “Col. Tavington”, and that he was “very evil…but a very ‘sexy’ evil.” I actually made him blush. *sigh* Such blue eyes…..

  56. angel_with_a_broken_halo says:

    Neb,
He would have been a better Elrond than the guy that played it! Wasn’t that the scary dude from Matrix?

When I lived in Ojai, CA I ran into all kinds of actors. The only one that was a true pecker head was Malcom MacDowell, and that was when he was married to Mary Steenburgen. They would come into the feed store that I worked at and get all of their animal feed there.

I knew what they wanted and usually had it all ready for them but he always had to throw a fit about everything and say what halfwits we all were. Poor May always look so embarrassed by his actions.

Ed Bagley Jr. would come in to and talk about one weird guy! I could talk him into buying just about anything, lol. We had these huge ceramic pots that would hold 50lbs of dog food just sitting around. They had been there for yrs cuz no one was dumb enough to buy them. Well ole Ed walked in and wammo, I convinced him that he needed them for his chicken feed.

My mom worked for a vet there in Ojai too and she ran into a lot of the Hollywood gang.

I got to meet Jerry Zucker and his wife in the late 80s. They came into the store looking for a saddle and I talked them out of buying the crap that was for sale there, I know bad me, but it truly was crap. I had them come over to my place in the upper Ojai and look at the saddle that my now ex had made.

They tried it out on my fat Appy and bought it. They were great to deal with and I think that they liked being treated like normal everyday ppl.

Being in Idaho for 16.5 yrs has really made me appreciate my child and early adulthood in Ojai. I really misss it there!

His BROTHER IN LAW BOUGHT THE HORSES BACK FOR HIM AT AUCTION, and they ALLOWED IT. Nothing they could do. The brother in law kept the horses for the guy, and I’m fairly certain the ones with papers wound up back in that man’s possession.

GAH, it just turns my stomach.

I am a bit late here but wanted to comment. The “pot-bellied” look–it was brought up on a previous day. I went out to look at my colt and called the vet who told me to go get some wormer and worm him.

Now, did I think he was worm-free? No, but he has been such the awesome creature around here for the month I’ve had him, the little prince of the place, that worms were not on my mind. He isn’t pot-bellied, but I really needed to worm him and get out of the adoration stage of new-colt ownership. He’s now wormed thanks to the FHOTD wake-up call (“hell-o”).

The little pinto is cute. (All horses are wonderful to me.) The owners are blind, however, and think the rest of the world is as foolish as they are.

Are dog and cat people as ridiculous as horse people?

Many underfed horses are from ignorance [the I don't know any better kind, not the Imbecile kind] and this comes back on the seller who should make sure that if the horse [or any other animal] is not going to a knowledgable home [after all we all started out without horse-knowledge !!] , that the new owner is given instruction on the basics [feeding, feet, teeth, worming, ad infitum] and on a contract for a follow-up/tuition of some sort for the care of and [less importantly - IMO] the riding of said beast. I will not say training as I believe a “newbie” should never [knowingly, and it is up to the seller to ascertain this -if they care about the horse/other animal they are selling] be sold something beyond their capabilities.

I do hope this poor little boy has found a proper “horsey” [as in knowledgable] home and had his “brain surgery” and plenty of good food. Although I would assume the seller would still have him as he is not worth more than $200 [NO WAY is he worth $2000 - what drugs is she on...can I have some of those LOL ??!!] and that doesn’t include the price of the gelding operation!

Okay, I emailed her and asked her why the heck he was so skinny and a lot of other stuff…

    Here’s her response:

As a matter of fact i wasn’t able to get him gelded at the time of this picture. And ill have you know he is now 15 hands and has put on tremendous weight. I had a vet look at him and we found why he was so thin. He WAS and IS getting adequate food and he is not the skinny horse in the picture. I put up a bad photo of him and for that i get criticized but who cares. I also have you know that i have been around horses for many years and i would never be cruel to a horse. Because of people like you who thrive off of stupidity is why people like me are mocked because of a mistake. So thanks for the 2 minutes of humiliation and i hope you have a nice day. I hope you learn to mind your own business and stay the **** out of other’s.
