Gee, I sure hope not!
Oct 26 2007
I get tons of Craigslist ads sent to me but this one might be my absolute favorite! I bolded my favorite part.
“8 Years old ARAB and THROUBRED mix. This is a Flaxin chestnut gelding never been bred. Pro trained by Del Raymond out of Delhigh, Ca. 15.1 hands tall and is bomb proof, Loads, Clips and is high spirited and loves to run. Hasn’t been road for about a year. Very friendly. Experienced rider perfered. “
I sincerely hope no one hopes to breed this gelding in the future, and that no one will be “roading” him. He is a cute guy who looks like he has some potential. Maybe his next owner will be literate!

I hope someone gets him, quickly gelds him and makes him into a nice riding horse.
Just a comment…I know a person with a gelding that was bred-before he was gelded. He has a colt and two fillies to his name.
Thank god he’s a gelding, now.
But that could be what the ad was referring to.
Throughbred – is that kind of like what you do with pizza dough?
Amber,
I also know of a very nice gelding who sired two kids before he was gelded !
HE was a mutt, but his babies were actually Ok !
Gads what douchebags.
Hasn’t been “ROAD” ?
What kind of road? Paved? Unpaved?
Don’t people proofread their ads?
My gelding has two fillies to his name – before he was gelded, obviously, and before I owned him. I think he is a nice looking QH but I am happy he is gelded. Strange thing is that some horses take an instant dislike to him, not sure if he is sending off “I’ve had some” vibes to the geldings?

I have seen those pictures before – but not with that text. I distinctly remember the pose with the horse standing facing the fence line, looking back like that, then the close up of his face… either I am experiencing some weird deja-vu thing because I have been staring at this computer all day… or those same pictures were posted with another ad somewhere… I must be losing my mind…

$150???!!! I love that the horse was ridden by a little kid but still needs tons of work.
*shakes head*
God, the stupid level is just killin’ me!
I “perfer” that my gelding not be bred either or “road” for that matter. *eye roll*
“is high spirited and loves to run”
I find that statement scary in a horse sale ad. To me it translates as “absolutely zero stop or control so just hang on and try not to fall off”.
He’ll find a home.. someone will think theres something hot about roading a virgin.
OT – I just got another notice from stateline about donating to help the displaced horses due to the CA wildfires…
I tried yesterday and was charged an $8.95 shipping fee for the donation so I cancelled. Now they’ve apparently fixed it so you are not charged shipping and handling… I just sent my $5 – which will be matched by Stateline -
(hey, I’m a horseowner x 4 = perpetually broke. I do what I can!)
He’s got a nest and a too straight shoulder, but something about him I kind of like.
Hope someone decent gets him, he could have potential, although in the one picture, he looks like he is poised to go.
He’s probably a friggin demon horse from Hell. I wouldn’t be surprised if they can’t catch him and can’t load him – they may even be afraid of him. A friend of mine bought a horse the owners were scared shitless of. She had them completely buffaloed and she’s turned out to be an awesome horse with some training and patience.
Kind of an oxymoron to have bomb-proof and high spirited listed as attributes for a horse. With the total mutilation of the English language, I was suprised NOT to see a helmetless toddler on the back of this one.
Hey guys….this is related to something I posted about prior….some horses in need.
Anyway, we’ve found homes for 2. Need to work on transport. If you have time/ideas, check out this post:
http://forums.horsecity.com/cgi-bin/bb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=29;t=071401
Cute gelding. Don’t let Mr Kreepy stallion Tha Dude owner get hold of him. He could certainly ruin the ‘never been bred’ part for sure.
This reminds me of a Police horse, a TN walker who could untie knots and unlatch gates, like his dad, and became a gelding when his owners found out he sired a son he maybe passed his talent on to (wonder how he got there?
But this guy–like any proper police horse–really IS bomb-proof.
and, if you have the extra, I need some “bling-bling” leather tack, and a new saddle, and a trailer to help me go and show them all off……..
I’m so sick of people begging for money to help finance their “horse rescue” – they find a free horse and beg for money to transport it, feed it, vet it, etc. etc. Ridiculous!
I agree with devilsadvocate about the rescue. I’m sure there are plenty of horses in my immediate area that need rescuing I’m not going to go looking thousands of miles away. And when I rescue I don’t beg for handouts. If you can’t afford it don’t do it.
What’s “flaxin”? Sounds like a medication for stallions that can’t perform.
No “road”-ing! Ouch!
What really is irritating is that they beg for $$$, and get enough that they could probably save 500% MORE horses who are in need in their area. I’m all for helping horses, but some people (I think) are just in it because the suckers send them thousands of dollars. Do you have any idea how EASY it is to get a PayPal account with a fake name on the display – which is what the “donors” see after they’ve sent their money.
My horse is in desperate need of a new wardrobe and accessories… his old ones are faded and used. It’s damaging his psyche every time someone sees him out in public. Send some money to “SaveMyHorsesEgo@UR_stupid.COM”
Just wanted to say, those of you who want a critique of your horse, visit my blog and I’ll be happy to do what I can. Thanks =)
I wonder if Del Raymond out of Delhigh, Ca is aware of this ad and these folks using his name like that. Bombproof, but spirited and likes to run, kinda leaves us all wondering about the amount or lack of training this horse has, and if it is ultimately Mr. Raymonds doing or undoing that landed the horse on CL, or at least in the hands of these folks.
I agree on the horse rescue issues, I’ve seen so many who don’t look reputable at all, getting thousands of dollars from people, and giving NO information on what happens after the money is given.
Perhaps the people “featured” on this topic don’t realize it is common practice to actually geld your young male horse BEFORE he does ever get the chance to breed. Maybe they think (like some people I have seen/heard) that all animals ought to have the chance to have a baby (or babies), at least once. Can you say “over population”???

Just a clarification… if FHoTD blog folks want to donate to the “displaced animals of the southern California wildfires”… Stateline Tack is matching your donations up to $100,000. Go to
State Line Tack website On the right side of the page click on the California animal rescue graphic. That takes you to a page of comments… scroll to the bottom and you will see the actual donation thing to fill out. (They do make it kind of hard to find.
Kudos to State Line for their activism!
oOps. Lemme rephrase: his _original_ owners. The Cleveland Mounted Police has enough to worry about w/o any inadvertent backyard breeding.
LOL. Well….my retired horse has/had quite a crest (not overly fatty just development from years of dressage.) 16.2, 2nd gen. App/TB cross. So he’s tied to a trailer at a dressage show one day, and a couple come up to me, ask how old he is (12 at the time), and offer me $15,000 for him! (I paid $2,200). Well. I had no intention of selling him, but thanked them for the offer. They said they were sooooo disappointed. They thought he looked lovely in the ring, and were sure he would sire BEAUTIFUL foals. OMG!!! They had seen only the “neck” and assumed my nice gelding was a stallion. After I bit my tongue to stop from going into hysterical laughter, I pointed out to them that he was a gelding, and referred them to his breeder. Don’t know that they had much luck there, though, since he usually gelded his colts at 12-18 months unless they were going to the track.
About the bomb-proof and spirited…I do kind of get what they are saying.
To me “bomb-proof” is just a way of saying doesn’t spook at random. My old Arab was like that. Really predictable, but LOVED to go. Never spooked or started, but carried her head and tail high and would RIP through a jump course with only marginal encouragement.
Unfortunately a lot of people take “bomb-proof” to mean “beginner-safe”…which my old Arab wasn’t. Sure, she didn’t SPOOK, but she was a pretty powerful horse who needed a consistent rider. (While I may suck, I am at least consistent)
Hi FHOTD. I have a better ad for you than the gelding. How about breeding to this guy, if you’ve always wanted a Prat Arabain foal. heh heh

i cant believe the kind of money people still ask for do-nothing often unbroke mares ….with color.
Dear FHOTD, Craigslist is a gold mine for you, but this might beat all: “One dollar” for each of these decent-looking backyard horses. They look cared for and a cut above the fugliest. Don’t know why the fire sale as there’s no hay shortage in this area.
Craigslist (kennewick-pasco-richland/tri-cities) #406505956
Oh, that would be in WA state
Yes the “road” bit is *eyerolling material* but maybe they are trying to reassure people that he’s not studdish having been gelded late and used before the brain surgery?
He’s not bad looking actually! and might be a lot of fun!

Yep, I’d take Sam in a heartbeat.
The trainer’s name is Dale Raymond. He’s a real horse trainer, and a good one. He lives in Delhi CA. Though it is pronounced Del-high.
I had an Arab gelding when I was a teenager that had two foals before he was gelded (he was kinda fugly, can you say ewe neck and plain head). Also have out in the pasture a 5 yr. old that was gelded three weeks ago that has two foals and one due next spring. He isn’t a fugly at all, nor does he have a fugly pedigree. What he did have was an attack of fugly behavior at his first horse show, when he lost his mind totally and became completely untrained, and unmanagable. We are so not doing that again. He was gelded six days after the horse show, if that suggests how badly behaved he was.
new response from crazy mini-owner’s friend on the “5 things I hate” topic.
I’m part of a very small group of people who have actually collected semen from a gelding…
He was a fairly nice breeding stallion (Holsteiner) that was cut at age 15 or so… no idea why, but whatever. A couple weeks after his “improvements,” according to the vet who was managing him, he was still able to ejaculate sperm that were still in his system. Where those sperm were stored, I have no idea, but I don’t have those letters after my name.
Sure enough, we collected him just like any other stallion (didn’t need a tease mare or anything) and there were some live sperm in the ejaculate! Crazy stuff… but the vet was kind of a weird guy that almost slightly reminds me of the Creepy Stallion/ “Slut Mare” dude.
This vet does repro with anything with legs- horses, cattle, donkeys, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, pigs, poultry… and that’s what his entire business is. His facility was… interesting… and I was there for a weekend to learn from him and bring my knowledge back with me. My favorite part was when he flew off the handle, yelling and screaming obscenities until he was red in the face, at another stallion he was trying to collect. The stud would rather nuzzle and rub on the mare for days than do anything with the phantom or AV. He wasn’t aggressive at all, but I wonder how he turned out after a few “training sessions” with this vet dude.
I dunno, that first gelding looks like he’d have the trot from hell with that shoulder of his….
The horse Barnibus found looks like he could round up underneath himself pretty well, though.
And LOL Heather at the gentlemanly stallion
Was his registered name Barry White?

Don’t worry though – he’s bombproof while he buggers off into the middle distance
Oh, this is so sad. I think that “a little underweight” is an understatement! http://www.equinehits.com/horses-for-sale/horse-171065
HELP!
Could we please have a lesson on how to post a(n)URL so that it doesn’t disappear? Or is it my computer? I’d say 99% of the URL’s you folks post are truncated.
It’s very frustrating to me.
Do a google search for “post a link using HTML”
Or “HTML Code, Links”
It will teach you what you need.
anniebanannie
If you click on the orange name of the post at the top of the page, you will get a different view of the comments page – this will give you a view of the entire link.
btw – it may not be orange on your computer, or it may not be orange until you click it. Anyway, it’s the name of the “topic of the day.”
Hey apocalypsepony,
You wouldn’t happen to be my sister would you?
Yes, HTML will work to post links. It will not, however, work to post images.
I’m not having a problem posting links… I’m having problems with folks who cut and past links that are too long without going to the page source and cutting and pasting it from there.
I was thinking that someone could write a little tutorial on how this is done easily while posting.
Okay folks since no one else wants to do it, here is the link posting lesson. If you want to post a link in it’s entirety put it between these characters an “a” inside two carrots (<>)to start the link and an “a” between two carrots with a back slash (/)in front of the “a” to end the link. I would put the code in here exactly as it should appear, but it would “disappear.” My website which is way too long (and outdated).
Here is an example done the correct way using my website which has a URL that is way too long (and the site is outdated also)
http://home.earthlink.net/~deltaheart/deltaheartlifestylesdiannestortzlintzcertifiedequineappraiser/
On my screen it doesn’t fit but the link works as opposed to this:
http://home.earthlink.net/~deltaheart/deltaheartlifestylesdiannestortzlintzcertifiedequineappraiser/
Which may work for some folks to cut and past but on my system for some reason, it is truncated and I can’t often can’t find the URL even if I guess.
Thanks
Devils Advocate:
Thank you
Also even if the post appears truncated it will still copy and paste all of it
Hey, artdoc. It’s me. I actually got to use the computer last night.
if you select the text link up until the next line/space posted, then copy and paste it into your address bar, the “truncated” links will show up as intended. I don’t know why Blogger has the fixed column widths when there’s all this room to the sides…
or just triple click the link to select it, hit “ctrl c” and voila, copied link in its entirety.
