First of all, for those of you who just can’t go a day without seeing something snarkworthy, here is some dimwit who needs to sell one hundred and thirty horses NOW because she is pregnant. Of course, they are “foundation bred,” most are colored and nearly all are as long as Britney’s hair extensions! Bet nothing is broke, either. My head hurts.
Now on to today’s topic:
Most of us know about the wildfires in Southern California right now. Evacuation facilities for horses are overflowing already. If you can house some horses (or other pets!) temporarily, or if you have a truck and trailer to move horses for someone who may not have transportation, here are some places you can post so that those in need can find you.
Here is a blog about the fires in the San Diego area with more information.
For those in danger from the fire, from the blog:
Horse stables for 1,700 available in Indio
Posted @ 7:17 PM
Evacuees are invited to stable their horses at a horse farm in the Thermal-Indio area.A private citizen, recommended by a California Department of Food & Agriculture veterinarian, has volunteered enough property, staff, food, and water resources to care for up to 1,700 horses. For more information, County residents can call (760) 399-2716.
From Peggy on COTH:
OC Fair Ground is closed to animals at this time.
Industry Hills Expo Center will take 125 large animals (626) 330-0324. They are located off of the 60 Freeway between the 57 and 605 freeways
Orange County Animal Shelter off of The City Drive will take 150 dogs and 75 cats.

The Chronicle of the Horse message board has a number of threads going with some updates from people actively involved in the rescuing. That is another good place to post if you can offer any kind of assistance.

Please feel free to post additional information about where to find help/those in need of help to the comments. I am happy to be able to say that I just learned all of the horses I used to care for in Topanga have been moved and are safe tonight, but many others – particularly those owned by people who have only 1 or 2 horses – may not have any transportation or a way to get to safety.

Hey Guys,
.
we have plenty of TBs of the type you need over here
Sturdy, well muscled, GOOD FEET, short coupled, working in all disciplines.
I think the type peferred in previous posts are the traditional hunter chasers (steeple chasers), with big chests and huge bums, mind you some of those were ex flat horses who successfully changed to jump racing, not all of them particularly tall (although many are).
The TB has influenced countless breeds all over the world and for that we have to thank the Arab
I have a friend with a TB x QH 50-50, he’s a super horse, quite tall for a QH but robust and handsome, he does have his Daddy’s hamster cheeks though, awkward when it comes to fitting bridles as he really needs two different sizes to make a good ONE.
I have a variety of TB and part bred mares, all will winter out if needed but I have one TB who needs a little extra to keep her well and one who could do as well as a native pony with very little, the 2nd one will NOT settle indoors for foaling so I spend nights wandering around the field with a torch waiting for her to decide to foal, then I can bring them both in for a day with no problem, just individual differences within the breed.
Thank you for spreading the awareness and information about the fires. I was nearly evacuated, but luckily the standby for us was taken off, and I was allowed to remain at home. Thank you to those who sent aid. These were 50x worse then the cedar fires we had a few years ago,and I know every bit was appreciated.
Now On to that idiot who is trying to sell her horses because she’s prego. Talk about someone with too many horses for their own good. Granted, some of them weren’t bad, but 130? Good lord! At least she doesn’t live down here with all the fires, can you imagine evacuating her horses? I bet she wouldn’t even claim them from the rescue places, and just let them figure out what to do with 130 horses. Just me venting a bit though…
I bought a filly from Bedonna and she is a lovely litte thing. She’s almost 3 now was an easy break and is a great riding horse. She was out of one of her mares by a different stud.
