The mare from the auction…

We believe we have located the mare I posted about from the sale, and are driving out to see her/pay for her in the morning. I need a ride for her from the auction yard and a place for her to quarantine board in the Moses Lake, Washington vicinity. If you haven’t done it before, this means you have a place to put the mare totally separate from any other horse, no shared fencelines, no shared water troughs, etc. as she may have been exposed to diseases at the auctions.

This is a well behaved mare (person who knows former owner described her as an extremely sweet mare who never had a crabby day) who just needs a place to go until I can get in touch with said former owner, who unfortunately I do not have a phone # for. Former owner wants this mare back, so she has a home, we’re just having communication difficulties most likely caused by the fact that it’s Saturday night and most normal people are out partying and are not on the Internet to receive my WE FOUND HER!!!! private messages :-)

If you are in the area and can help, please e-mail me but be sure to put QUARANTINE OFFER in big letters in the subject line as I am a million e-mails behind (it feels like).

Thanks, a better update with pictures will come if we have her safely in our possession tomorrow!

Can’t wait to see her. If she passed your inspection, FHOTD, she’s gotta be nice.

Gotta love a thoroughbred, but they get pulled down so easily. It’s very common to find emaciated thoroughbreds all over the place… and then they go for a pittance because people think they are sick/lame and that’s the reason for their poor weight.

Again, I’m excited for you! Can’t wait to see her! :)

I live in that area (well, Connell, an hour away) but unfortunately I don’t have a place that can properly quarantine anything. Sorry!

I read every day and never post…but I have to this time.

People bust your chops all over the net because of your “fowl” language and your “snarky” attitude……and yet YOU are doing things like this. YOU are doing what you can….while people who are bitching about your language are sitting around on their asses getting pissed off and not doing a damned thing but griping about your audacity.

Thank you for being a snarky bitch that cares so much to do something every chance you get. In my book, you’re a hero.

I leased two horses to a friend for her daughter Lady and another horse. They refused to take listen to what I said, although things looked okay and I only found out later what happened. I got a call one mare had collicked and I went out, got a friend to move her, unfortunately she didn’t make it, Lady lost a lot a of weight I guess from grief over losing her friend and only after I moved her to another friend’s place did she come back to her old self.

Ha! (I am reveling in the power that is FHOTD)…..it’s refreshing when you hear/know of stand up people that will/do go to the ends of the earth for others and animals.

I had a shot of this “feel good” last night at the World Clydedales show in Madison, WI. 4 exhibitors lost their lives to carbon monoxide poisoning on Thursday night. Grandparents and their 13 and 10 year old grand daughters. They were using a heater in the living quarters of the horse trailer with only a vent open on the ceiling. (It was about 40 degress here that night). They were found by the parents in the morning.

At the show they were passing around feed buckets taking donations for the funerals. Yes this shouldn’t have happened, but damn, the family has 4 people to bury.

    AMEN TO THAT!!

Not only is FHOTD doing things like taking rescues in and going the ‘extra mile’ for the love of the animal, she’s started this blog in an effort to point out some of the reasons why horses end up in situations like the ones she’s rescuing.

Bad language, snarky ‘mean’ comments… likely come from people who A.) have had the finger pointed at them or B.) FEAR that the finger is going to point at them.

I hope the ones in the latter category, and obviously the ones in the former category, take a good long hard look at their breeding programs/equine management situations and make a few changes.

If just ONE changes, it will all be worth it.

Isn’t that the truth! I’m sure some of the BYBs are upset about this blog, but you KNOW some are reevaluating their “programs”. And, like you say, if one person refrains from breeding a crappy poor quality horse because of what they read here, then it is worthwhile.

That’s how I feel. I don’t care if the entire horse community thinks I am a bitch, if this blog prevents one more fugly Ara-Appaloosa colt from being born and going to slaughter as a two year old (he was in the “canner pen” yesterday), I have DONE my job and done something even MORE useful than the rescuing/rehabbing of horses that are already in trouble.

Attention FHOTD!!! I sent you an email with the Morganites Oklahoma Nationals picture, in our Hallowe’en masks. The heading says as much, if you care to post it (heheh).

I met up with Beautiful-Morgan and she really is beautiful under her devil’s mask. Now where were JstPam and ChromeCowgirl? We missed you guys!

Trying to catch up with the latest blogs but have only had time to skim the great oldsters stories. Sorry I missed putting in my beloved old gelding.

Had a great time and will give a report later, so Shovels, Kay, Morab76, Morgan-Queen, keep yer ears up….
