And a crazy mini owner responds!
Aug 31 2007
And it is every bit as good as I knew it would be, complete with poor spelling and the usual lack of legal knowledge that always characterizes these e-mails.
First e-mail:
Hey there, I’m here to request that you take ALL the stuff about the miniatures off your website. If you have not done so in 3 days I will be taking legal actions for slander and for stealing. Not only will it be me you will be dealing with Little Beginnings also. I will also be contacting the blog company your using.
I will be waiting….
Second e-mail:
I’v decided that If you just take the first part off and picture about my pinto, Scotch, Off I will not press charges… Of course you have 3 days to do that. If you have been around bare foot horses ? you would have known that their feet are a little long. and he is NOT a breeding stallion. he is gelded, He is not reg, Nor is he wild. Nor have I ever said he had the most perfect confomation. I rescued him from a lady that bought them from a auction. I have never BRED or had a breeding take place on my property, but I did buy a mare that was bred this year.
All I wish is to have this Unture statement taken Off… Save both of us the trouble…
My response:
What exactly would you be “pressing charges” for? Any dispute you have with me would be a civil matter, necessitating a civil suit. If you wish to sue me in civil court, you may of course do so.
~~~~~~~~~~~
When did I ever say hers was a breeding stallion? Or wild? I just said his feet were overgrown and he had a humpback. Read for comprehension, people. It’s not that hard.
So shall we discuss the justification du jour, that barefoot horses are always a little long? Really? In my experience, the bat shit crazy branch of the barefoot Nazis trims them so short they are lame for days if not weeks afterward. To clarify: I’m a fan of leaving horses barefoot if at all possible, it’s just the extremist “it’s ok if they’re sore, they’ll toughen up” garbage I take issue with.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oops, I did not realize there was yet a THIRD e-mail from her that I’ve come across as I read through my inbox. In the interests of being completely fair and presenting both sides, here is e-mail #3.
Second oops, they aren’t the same person. They just have the same (uncommon) first name. But hey, I’ll leave it up, it’s equally entertaining and misspelled.
Third e-mail (may have been first, timewise)
Hello,
I have been watching your website for a few weeks, i am a miniature horse trainer-handler-exhibiter and yes ..breeder. My horses have achieved National-World and ASPC Congress titles and i have all and more knowlege of conformation/ballance/structure and training. I just have to say, i am appalled by the lack of knowlege you have about the miniature horse breed and you have honestly just put your foot in your mouth. What gives you the right to take someones pictures (without their noticed btw) and post them on your ‘website’??? You know what, i have found the minis are more conformationally correct then the big horses. You big horse people are sad, okay if it will carry me from point a to point b, who cares what it looks like. HAH. Well, us mini people who do halter horses actually choose our horses upon conformation. You guys, if you can ride it and stay on it for 3 seconds, its a catch. Who cares what it looks like as long as it rides, and if it doesnt ride ..throw it aside and pass it along to another auction house. I can 100% garentee you my miniature horses are more conformationally correct then anything in your barn. My minis have WON and went GRAND in classes with big horses ..what about that? Breeding minis is not about breeding tiny, the heights go up to 38” ..most people shoot for the b size which is 34”-38”. I’m willing to bet you are also one of those uneducated shetland people as well. What do you think a shetland is, prob you picture a short fat pony …HAH. Nope, basically a small saddlebred or arab ranging up to 46”, most about 40”-44” and extremely fine boned and hackney type movement.
Your website is a perfect example of an uneducated horse ‘lover’. I take pride in my breed and have competed (and won!) at the highest levels and i am only 19 years old. Its people like you that have more issues then the rolling stones. How dare you make a website like that? Did a mini beat your big horse in a halter class? Is that it?
You have quite the bad reputation on Lilbeginnings.com (visit www.miniaturehorsetalk.com) to see how everyone really feels about you. We have been keeping tract of your worthless ramblings and if you wantt o see some REAL horses, visit there. I also suggest you make a username and explaine on there what your issues are. A member on there EVEN FOUND HER horses pics of your website. Let me just say RIGHT NOW, if i ever find a picture of one of my horses on your website you will be turned in as i have copy right on all my pictures considering most are by professional photographers.

Well said.
Hmmm…SHE has a copyright on pictures that were taken by a professional photographer? NOPE, wrong. The PHOTOGRAPHER has the copyright on those pictures. And I’m sure the photographer did not give her permission to scan the images and put them onto her web site. SO, I say that we find her website, see who the professional pictures were taken by, and inform said photographer that his copyrighted images are being used by her without his permission. Then she’ll find out what a lawsuit REALLY is, LOL!

LMAO! That’s some funny stuff right there. I’m sure the minis weren’t very amused, but damn that’s funny.
Fugly, have you signed up at the psycho mini site yet to explain yourself and your issues with them? *eye roll*
So what all you pro-spelling-error people are saying is that you’re just a bunch of lazy retards who don’t care about the image you project towards others, that you don’t care if your spoken or written words are taken seriously or have the proper impact. You don’t respect yourself or take yourself seriously, so there’s no reason for us to, either.
If you want to look like a crack-baby, go right ahead. I’d rather come across as an obnoxiously articulate psychotic bitch who can gut a person like a fish with haiku.
Bring “Lil’ Beginnings” on. What are they going to do, set Beanie Babies on fire and strap them to the backs of rabid minis, then haze them across the field at us? Paint one side of their little bug-eyed bent faces blue? “FRRREEEEEDOOOOM”
Wah. I’m pissin’ in my Godivas. Sue us- what are they gonna get? Most horse people are in hoc up to their asses. If they want that many Salvation Army workboots and flannel shirts, I guess if that’s their kink, go for it. I like how *everyone* is a “rescue”. Never “I bought this horse”.. I “Rescued” this horse from so and so… you wrote a check- give the Nobel back already.
I also fail to see how “Nazi” can be touted as “offensive” by someone who says “fuck” in the same post.
For the “lazy” argument… the car accidents when tired.. no, you aren’t lazy, you’re stupid. If you’re tired and you knowingly operate a vehicle around other people, you aren’t lazy, you’re stupid and dangerous. Pull off in a well-lit area and take a power-nap. Ride a bus.
If you’re “tired” before posting- this blog WILL be here tomorrow (and if it isn’t, so what? You’re not capable of finding other entertainment elsewhere? I mean, it’s nice, but it isn’t irreplaceable…), why not type it in Word, run error correction, and then post, or wait until you’re “normal” to post?
To be fair (snerk- like anybody’d buy that)… the argument that we’re HUMAN is a better one. People make errors- stupid and not- all the time. Don’t try to justify something with another un-related example, just own up that you’re dumb. Like the time I fell off a horse and SAW my HAND holding this fat braided rein and the smoke rising off of the burning flesh. My mind said “Let go you ignorant fat fuck!”… but it JUST wasn’t getting to the hand. Result? Sockyflippermitts for a month. Why couldn’t I “JUST LET GO?”.. No idea, but it was STUPID and I was STUPID for trying to stop a half-ton moron from plowing a field with me. Dumb. I wasn’t “zoned out” or “head traumatized” or “off meds” or something. I just didn’t let the fuck go. Maybe I thought he’d stop. Maybe I thought he was pulling me away from a predatory rabid lion I couldn’t see.
Bottom line- stupid happens. Own up to it, move on, and try not to do it again. Don’t sit on your ass and make reasons up why it happened. It’s already happened, now it’s time to “plan for the next attack of fugly”.
And if one of us Lingo-Nazis screw up on a typo… it’s funny how the morons are *always* so quick to jump on it and point it out- it’s like they LIVE for it. But again- so what? It happened- move on. If you base your life on wEAther or not I spell something rong… how very sad for you.
You know… I can really see why Dommes can get INTO this stuff…
I almost lost a mare to sand colic 2 yrs ago. She died last year of pnuemonia(spelling sorry) that the vet diagnosed her with heaves(ya lets not go there) and she was not even 5 yet. But now all my horses have their own black rubber buckets to eat out of. And the buckets sit on nice black rubber mats because the food that drops out of their mouth gets dirt on it. And of course they eat every little drop. My horses don’t have nice green pastures, they are turned out in sand lots or should say clay lots:( After watching my mare suffer for two days, with myself, my kids, and my husband sitting next to her, hand feeding her beet pulp, I refuse to let my horses eat grain off the ground. I put hay in bins and yes they do eat the hay with dirt on it. But I also feed beet pulp everyday, usually about 10 lbs of wet mash everyday for 4 1/2 horses(I don’t believe the mini is a horse) so I don’t go through the sand colic thing every again. But that is just me, if people think its okay to feed their horses on the ground so be it, maybe they will be lucky and nothing will happen…I hope for their sake:(
From the third email:

My minis have WON and went GRAND in classes with big horses
You know what, i have found the minis are more conformationally correct then the big horses.
So, let me break this down for ya a little here.
Any time a mini is shown against a full size horse in a halter class, which I CANNOT FATHOM on any sort of acceptable BREED LEVEL show OR in any decent-sized OPEN show… it had to have been a COLOR class, because it is PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE to unbiasedly compare the conformations of two such different horses. This statement alone showed your absolute IGNORANCE about all things horse show related.
And as far as minis being better conformationally, you REALLY need to do some research.
Think this little pony would be proportionate and well conformed as a big horse?
http://tinyurl.com/22sjrw
How bout this mare?
http://tinyurl.com/25swlm
My best advice to you is to go ahead and be mad, but before you make comments like the ones you’ve posted, realize that you might not be CORRECT.
WTF said: “Maybe I thought he was pulling me away from a predatory rabid lion I couldn’t see.”
LMAO!!!!!

That is the main reason why I home school my 8 yr old son.
Now for the Shetland being “Arab” type etc. There is an American Shetland that does not resemble the traditional Shetland in any form. They do not have any of the strength that the original Shetlands have due to the fact that they are to light boned now days.
I also fail to see how “Nazi” can be touted as “offensive” by someone who says “fuck” in the same post.
Of course you can’t.
Eerrr… Since when is a Shetland an ARAB type with HACKNEY movement??? HELLOOOO Do you homework young lady.

I am dissapointed I did not find anything FUGLY or FHOTD realted on the ‘lilbeginnings’ site, but I saw an awful lot of ‘herd reduction’ sales in the free sales ad section…kinda says it all.
Did anyone ever see that great comedy “P.C.U.”? It made fun of all the offended people on college campuses – the offended feminists, the offended ethnic groups, the offended gays, the offended tree huggers, etc. They had this great scene where they got everybody to start a “We’re not going to protest!” protest.
That’s kind of how I feel about this blog. Stick around long enough, and somebody is going to post something personally offensive to you, but the odds are you’ve posted something personally offensive to them, so the best thing to do is to just let what you don’t like go in one ear (eye?) and out the other.
WTF – Can I be your BFF? Or at least your BFFN?
so basically that 3rd Emailer knows all about horse and life at the age of 19? Seems to me she prefers mini’s because she is afraid of big horsies? OK Miss 19-year-old….your mini’s are the cream o the crop? Post pictures…and I don’t mean cute little head shots…I want conformation shots…Full body profile of your mini’s in a RELAXED stance. Front on shots of their legs. Shots of their feet (preferably on a hard surface no grass to cover their feet)…Put your money where your mouth is and make with the pics..CAPICHE? did I spell that right…lol
ok, this is off topic slightly…
but it is mini horses. *grin*

So…. because she’s just aged out of 4H showing, she’s an expert? (my own snarky comment for the day).
Rin: Those mini’s in that video were so darn cute and better trained than my dog!!
WTF: Loved your last post!
OK…I must be blind or really didn’t care to look hard and long enough…but I can’t find on small beginners forum where they actually are talking about FHOTD?
OK…one more thing…3rd Emailer…please list the shows you have attended with this mini that has beaten the big horses…you were so quick to shoot off your accomplishments so list them…state, region, titles…pictures to brag about. Just Email them to the same person whom you sent the Email to…then that person can post them for us on FHOTD…OH! Don’t forget those conformation shots I requested…thanks

Wow!Somebody about 15 posts up is in dire need of some “downtime”
Has anyone ever seen a mini beat a big horse in halter?
I’m just curious. I can’t recall ever seeing that. Not saying it couldn’t happen. If I were judging, I can see placing that nice bay mini I posted over a lot of full sized horses with bad conformation. It’s just that I almost never see a mini at an open show unless there is a driving class offered.
“Has anyone ever seen a mini beat a big horse in halter?”
I showed (Saddle Club show..usually pretty big) a few times in halter with minis a couple years back. I did win everytime we showed in halter. And that was with our one of our really nice mares. There were western and english horses in the class.
I have national champion and international champion Welsh, I have yet to have a mini of any quality beat them yet. I say yet because it can happen but it hasn’t yet.
So her mini’s have beat full sized horses? Hmmm maybe that’s becuase true conformation bred horses are 95% of the time shown only at breed shows (which doesn’t necessarily mean they’re quality as we know).
True competition is about beating the best of your direct competition, not beating something completely unrelated. I’m sure someone like Bob Avila puts more stock in beating Todd Crawford in working cowhorse, then he would beating Joe Schmo on his grade pony in barrel racing.
“What do you think a shetland is, prob you picture a short fat pony …HAH. Nope, basically a small saddlebred or arab ranging up to 46”, most about 40”-44” and extremely fine boned and hackney type movement.”
I have. No words.
WTF, whoever said that anyone is pro-spelling error? Apparently you totally missed my point.
I tend to be self-effacing when I try to make a point, like the whole “I do it, too” sort of thing (and I do) because I understand what it’s like to be human. But apparently I have to come out and say that for some people to recognize that’s what I am doing.
Pointing out that I make errors just like other people doesn’t make it right to jump on my case and say I am stupid or lazy, because I am far from it. There’s just that mentality of leaping on whoever is seen as easy prey(“Oooo, I can tear someone down today! Yay!”).
Some people may have intelligence, but lack emotional “intelligence”. How about the ability to step in someone else’s shoes? That’s what I try to do.
And the whole car thing is called an analogy (I’m sure you’ve heard of it).
Oh, and as far as tearing into people and their excuses, some people DO have valid excuses. Ever been an insomniac? Ever heard of dyslexia? There’s people out there that have to deal with those.
And as far as typing when tired…who says you have to spell perfectly to contribute? “Oh, I’m tired. I’ll just go to bed and write my thoughts tomorrow because I just might offend someone with my spelling / typos.”
So let me just state it outright:
Show me a person that’s never made a mistake, and I’ll show you someone who has never lived.
(or is that too confusing, as well?)

I only gripe when I see reason to. I don’t like being attacked and called stupid and lazy because I try to empathize and make points about other people.
But you’re right, it is pathetic. And it’s sad.
In defense of the 19-year old expert…..
I must admit that I was much more of a horse expert when I was about 13-20 years old than I am now.
Here’s a funny story about me and my expertise…. I went to an unfamiliar trail riding stable while I was out of town, the people running the place asked about levels of experience.. “I’ve ridden hundreds of times, and many different horses!” states my then 13-14 year old self (truthfully, but arrogantly). So, I am given a fairly peppy horse who has a habit of tossing his head and is a bit of a puller. “No problems!” I think to myself. Along we go… well, a while into the trail ride the horse flips the hackamore shanks over his nose. (Hm, I didn’t mention I’d never actually ridden a horse with a hackamore) Away we went, not a runaway, but a fast-trotaway. A few hundred yards down the road (trail, path, don’t remember) I do the intelligent thing and steer into some bushes and safely stopped him. I was mortified (and removed from my mount
). My “expert / advanced” riding abilities didn’t run to knowing that if I had just loosened the reins (maybe shaken them a bit) the shanks would have gone right back into position.
I still learn things everytime I deal with horses, but it’s amazing that I know so much less know than I did then.
I still read anything I can get my hands on, and watch any training videos I can get my hands on…. some I like, some I love, some I don’t like. But I’ve successfully raised and started four foals (some fugly, some not) and I just pick and choose the bits and pieces of different training approachs and mix ‘em into my own. I figure the day I’ve learned everything there is to know about horses will be, um, never.
Not proofread, so pardon my typos / spelling errors. Like I said, sometimes my fingers type faster than my brain can process.

I know how that goes
. But usually it’s the other way around.
I’m SUPER FAST with the backspace key.
I know someone whose horse got sand colic. It’s not a common thing here, and the ‘dirt lots’ the US seem to have are actually something we find hard to create and can go to great lengths to maintain as turnout for laminitics. However, said friend’s horse, after being on ‘starvation’ for a while, got some unsupervised turnout in a sand school. Of course, she went straight for the clumps of grass at the edges, and inhaled a good load of dust along with. Not pretty.
We have a horse that drops a big heap of poop right in the middle of his pile of hay. Don’t ask.
wmn02, that is not a shetland. That is an AMERICAN Shetland.
THIS is a frickin shetland, people! Look like an arab to you?
Don’t get me wrong, they’re cheeky bastards and they sure THINK they’re 17 hands of pure snorting, terrifying horseflesh. Absolutely fantastic for teaching kiddies not to get dumped.
OMFG…. How pathetic…. So She knows more about conformation than FHOTD? bahahaha, is that why her pasture is full of shit horses that if they were full sized could not even be used for ponying?
And anyone breeding QUALITY (take note mini breeders…. Quality is not the same as pretty color and long purty mane) full sized horses, does not breed anything of the inferior majority mini breeders are pumping out. Many of us DO breed QUALITY (there’s that damn word again eh?)horses that can halter, jump, and do many other things without breaking down.
I for one know, that little loud mouthed 19 yr old who thinks she knows it all, would step into a halter ring with her pathetic mini, against one of my many top halter horses… and walk out of the ring in defeat.
Just cuz you want to think they are quality when you stuff a class (if you even have the points to back up this pathetic claim), does not mean they are worth any more than dog food.
AND DONT EVER TELL FHOTD THAT YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT CONFORMATION YOU NEANDERTHAL!!!

people… what does it matter that the grain is on the ground??? you do know that horses are grazing animals right? ever seen a horse in the field? they do shit where they eat, and then they eat where they shit. it is all quite normal.
to a horse the grain tastes the same weather it comes from a bucket or not.
surely you can find something better than that to complain about? “
Oh…. Are you really that stupid? Have you ever noticed in an over grazed pasture there is still some areas with lots of grass…. yes my very unintelligent friend… Thats because there is a large amount of urine and shit there, so they will not eat it.
Did you know, if by choice, a horse will not eat grass where it has pooped or pee’d on for several years? Thats because…. the grass tastes like SHIT! Go figure huh.
Not to mention the fact of causing the horse to collect more worms…. ie, when you have horses crammed together, and dont rotate pastures… your horses require more worming than they would if rotated with sheep or cattle, or given more space in general.
Stick that in your ignorant pipe and fucking smoke it.

Oh my gosh!!! You did not just say that you have good conformed horses!!! Coincidently, I just posted a comment on the “you can’t make a purse” blog about two of your horses! It has been the laughing stock of another forum I am a member of! You’re pathetic!
And you should be turned in for having a big-horned goat in with your horses! That’s an accident waiting to happen. Maybe you should leave rescuing animals to those who can actually do good for the animals! You make me sick!

THANK YOU!!!! That is exactly what I was wondering!!!! I too noticed that I can’t bring the pictures up anymore. Trying to hide something?
Awww, y’all caught me. Now my credibility is totally ruined. Darn.
Split personalities? It seems that way.
Do any of us have any credibility?
Not on here, that’s for sure.
I feel as though I got myself in the middle of a threeway (and no, not *that* kind) and found out that there were actually only two.
the first “horse” i ever taught to drive was a 3 year old hell on wheels (get it? heh) American Shetland Pony. the only thing she had in common with she woolie Sheltand Pony “Squirt” of my childhood was height. to be honest i LOVE the American Shetland Pony! training and driving that little spitfire was like OMG ZOOM ZOOM! the hackney action was amazing and she was more agile than most full size horses could ever hope to be =)
but somehow people get wriled up about the Shetland pony. the American Shetland Pony is not the Shetland Pony nor should they be confused. its like compairing English Bulldogs to American Bulldogs, not the same dog. they are both “bullies” and have the same ancestor but you cant really use the term “bulldog” to define or the dog itself, its a catch all term. the exact same thing is true of the “Shetland Pony”, you have to define “what kind” or there is confusion.
and honestly the short, fat and woolie island ponies and ill suited to the American show market. they arnt going to win in driving, hunter and have a hard time in the jumpers do to being out matched my modern jumping ponies. the American Shetland Pony can win in driving on the rail and both in Combined Driving but is ill suited to hunters and does only slightly better in the jumpers.
if i was looking for a driving pony to compete id take an A.S Pony any day but not a traditional sheltand.
Three way, two way, it’s all fun. It’s hard to hide behind a screen name, so I’m not even trying. I am who I am. Isn’t that right, Fugly?
This is what happens when mini owners are called on their bullshit.
I love your blog, but as a barefoot trimmer a proper trim is neither too long or too short, but what is correct for the horse. Any reputable trimmer will not trim a horse to the point that it is sore, if they can at all be avoided.
For luvmyfuglyhorse a horse who is transitioning to barefoot, has feet that are being rehabbed from poor trims, it can take up to several years for the feet to toughen back up.
With all due respect I must say a horses hooves, are much different then a child’s foot.
And again, I absolutely love your blog.
Okay FHOTD,
I am sorry but you all need to see this site, they are trying to get research done on their dwarf minis and trying to do some good but OMG! Look at this site.
http://www.littlemagicshoes.com/
They really are doing reasearch on this ,but I just got freaked out on the pictures and I really don’t know why they just don’t stop breeding the little freaks period. .
Shaunna, you are right.
But I feel funny posting that I am the real Cathy Atkinson. I feel like I am stuck in some kind of Twilight Zone Eminem video with little mini-me’s springing up out the woodwork.
Ah well, anybody who needs clarification can meet me in Vegas and I’ll even show them my ID. First round’s on me!
Ahhh, I see that our friendly neighborhood blogger finally got smart and posted with her real name. Good for you. Now you go on and play nice for a while. Really, it don’t hurt any and you might make some real friends in the process. It really wasn’t hard to track you down. I just did a google search for the first part of your yahoo email address “resqtb” and found the yahoo group. A little search through the posts there (there wasn’t many, you must be lonely) led me to the pretzelkitty site AND your cell phone number (you really shouldn’t post that where the public can see, might get some nasty calls). Seriously, apparently I got to you in some small way since you chickened out and removed your pictures from your site. Might want to remove that goat from you blind horse’s pasture while you’re at it, before an accident happens. All in all, everywhere I have found you, you seem like a very nice person. I guess you come here to unwind and be as nasty as you want, just because you can. I pity your lonely existance.
OK, you’re funny.
The goat is 2,000 miles from my blind horse, on an entirely different farm. While I wish I owned the positively Elysian horse farm my oldest two horses are boarded at, I do not own it nor, alas, any goats.
I wasn’t trying to be particularly hard to find…I have posted pictures of my horses (that I’ve posted to other forums with my real name and some of which are polo ponies with no manes which is not exactly commonplace), about 50 of my closest friends knew who was doing this blog from the get-go and I was planning on showing up in Vegas without a bag over my head.
I am curious though – was the first person smart enough to do a Yahoo search a crazy mini breeder, a crazy sport horse breeder, a crazy halter horse breeder, or what? Really, I could at least send you a free T-shirt. Sorry it can’t be a better prize, but then again, it wasn’t much of a contest!
I’ll have to get to work now on the post I’ve been waiting to make – the one where I show everybody ALL of my personal horses’ conformation flaws in great detail. I have Fugly Acres here and as I’ve said before, nothing is pregnant, nor will it be.
By the way, not lonely in the least – just pissed off about people breeding shitty horses that I have to watch go to the two killer buyers at the auction after those people who brought them into the world have washed their hands of them and dumped them at the auction really early in the afternoon so no one would see it was their trailer pulling away.
P.S. Do you think you can get your own screen name now? I really don’t want to have to start moderating the blog comments or deleting any posts, but this is just going to confuse everybody.
Sorry, I won’t be getting my own screen name because I have no further interest in taking part in this witch hunt. Do me a favor, though. Before you post pictures of people’s horses at random, make sure that they’re actually being bred, since this IS supposed to be about shoddy breeding practices. I’ve seen several pictures posted on here of horses that will NEVER be bred, but you put them on here anyway. Getting permission to post pictures of rescues would also be nice but I feel that I’m asking too much already.
You do have a good thing going, here. If you’d tone down the language and the bashing, you could be doing a good service. You say that you’re getting flooded with emails with pictures, use the ones that you have permission to use. People breed crap in every species, even (especially) humans. That’s not unheard of and it doesn’t surprise me. What does surprise me it that, until today, you seem to have thought of yourself as unreachable and untouchable. You do seem like a very nice person on the other boards. You just seem to have a lot of anger inside of you and I’m very sad for you because of that. If you’re really as informed about conformation as you claim to be, you could DO something with that.
Oh, I won’t be anywhere near Vegas when you’re there. I do have a family and animals to take care of. But you go on and have fun. I’m sure your foul-mouthed followers will miss you. A T shirt would be nice but I think I’ll buy my own, thank you.
I apologize for posting again. I just realized that I forgot to answer your question on what kind of “breeder” I am. I don’t breed anything. I have one mare and one gelding. The gelding was born on my property, but not because I bred his dam. I would’ve never bred her because she has stifle problems that she passed on to my gelding. I didn’t even buy her as bred. The colt was just a surprise for us all when we knew for sure that she was pregnant. Would I buy a bred mare again? Nope. There’s too many horses in the world that need good homes, I don’t need to breed for one.
It made me laugh out loud when the last emailer said they were 19. Gotta love self rightious kids. The best part is if she were reading with comprehension and were a responsible breeder she should be as outraged at the appalling level of cruelty that results from the bybs. When will they understand that its not responsible people that are railed against, but the idiots who don’t have 10 braincells to rub together
Ok, I own a mini (he was given to me), and I love him. Hes cute and looks like some one shrunk a large horse. His conformation is good (well as good a a small pony’s can be!). He came to me as an 11yr old stallion (no I had him gelded about a month after I got him, thank you!) because the poeple bought him to breed him, but couldn’t handle him. I was NOT in the least bit offended by the mini post, infact I thought it was rather factual and to the point. What these poeple are freaking out about, I will never understand. So what, your horse is getting picked on, big fat deal!! Get over it, if you put pictures on the internet for the world to see, be big enought to take the bad with the good. Not every one agrees with every one about every thing. Oh, and its a BLOG not a website, dumbass!
You know what, you POS, no one cares about your position and opinion, you have missed the entire point of this blog-These horses were put up here *because* they are a RESULT of breeding fugly.
So far over your head, you need binoculars, right? Frig, I don’t CARE who the author is, I want her to continue!!
Because of the crash course on equine conformation I have picked up a lot of small things that I otherwise might have missed…and much of that thanks to the contributors here that share their knowledge freely.
My suggestion is to go piss in your own sandbox, folks here won’t tolerate this crap.
And as to the original 19 YO expert who knows it all, and brags that she won against full sized horses….I am amused that no one else has concluded what I did: She won in a 4H class, LOL
>>Do me a favor, though. Before you post pictures of people’s horses at random, make sure that they’re actually being bred, since this IS supposed to be about shoddy breeding practices.< <
Well, not quite. I post horses who are EXAMPLES of poor breeding after it has happened. Yours qualified based upon that.
And actually, the blog can be about whatever I want, and no, I’m not going to “tone it down” for anybody. Hence the term “My” blog.
Now go call the farrier…
Helllloooo???? I was TRYING to be nice, here. And you don’t have a clue if you’ve posted pictures of “my” horse or not. Otherwise, I would’ve gotten quite a bit of hate mail by now. Personal attacks won’t be tolerated? Against who??? Anyone who posts in the comments section is attacking someone. If you can’t see that, you’re blind. You go right ahead and start censoring. That’ll give you something to do besides for trolling message boards and people’s photobucket accounts for pictures that aren’t yours to begin with. And no, I won’t email privately because you’ll just post it here anyway. I might as well do that work for you. Yep, it’s YOUR blog, and you’re digging yourself deeper. You’ve lost a LOT of credibility in the horse world with your childish language and your “snark”, whatever that is. I’m an adult and I am CHOOSING to act like one, unlike you and most of the people who post here. Why don’t you grow up, get a job, and start trying to act like the adult that you claim to be. You have way too much time on your hands. Now that I’ve outed you, I’m washing my hands of this whole mess. You’re not worth the horse crap on the bottom of my boot.
I keep nearly all my horses bare foot, and only put front shoes on my Warblood when we are competing on a regular basis. My trail mare, an Arabian Mustang cross, has some of the toughest feet I have ever seen/felt on a horse. But every 8 weeks when the farrier comes out, I ask him to check feet and see if any one needs shoes. I like my horses to be bare, as it IS more natural, but I am not going to do it at the expence of the horses comfort. It’s not that hard people, open your eyes and us your dang heads. Domestic horses are NOT mustangs, and they don’t usually get to wonder hundreds of miles, so they need different foot care. And I understand, farrier care is not cheep (I have 6!), but in the long run, it’s easier to prevent than to correct.
woops, that should be Warmblood. I was typing too fast again! lol
*LOL* at multi logins arguing with themselves.
*LOL* at anyone who hasnt discovered firefox and its handy little line of red dots that indicate ones sporadic illiteracy.
*LOL* at FHD being our ‘beloved leader’ – shall i add the cyanide to the koolaid now, oh exalted one?
*LOL* that the truth is IM the real cathy atkinson and NOBODY KNOWS. john john never died in that plane crash, we’re MARRIED and live on a remote hawaiian island with marilyn monroe and yes we breed minis.
well ok we make midget porn.. same thing, right??
[hint: cease this madness!]
To the Mini-Moron, the Shetland Pony IS a “short, fat pony”. Your scaled-down Saddlebred-type pony is NOT a Shetland. The Shetland originates from the Scottish Isles [there is evidence of it's existence dating from 500 BC], it was NOT created in someone’s breeding barn.
I’m sorry, I just *can’t* take ANYONE who threatens to sue for slander on the internet seriously.
If someone threatening to sue doesn’t know the damn difference in “slander” (verbal or spoken) and “libel” (written) there’s not even a snowball’s chance in hell of them having enough knowledge of the legal arena to win.
Far, far better, smarter people and professional lawyers have tried push internet libel cases, and in the vast majority of cases, those are LOST.
*Snicker* Crowhorse totally rose to the bait that wasn’t even directed at them.
Fucktard.
-The original WTF
Well, I say we form a FHOTD branch of P.O.O.P.! (no not horse poop) You know, people offended by offended people?!? >:)
Ok, now THIS was some good stuff. Too bad more brain cells were directed at breeding *snicker* then establishing multi logins. For someone who claims not to be a crazed breeder..she sure is showing a bit too much yardage between the gaol posts for me lol.
even funnier than mixing up slander and libel is not realising that it’s only libel if its NOT true
hasnt ANYONE seen The People vs Larry Flynt??
ok ok ok, l have to admit to being a bit on pissed off side when it comes to the shetland issue.I have decided that lots of Americans have no real idea on what a shetland is nor the history of them etc, but maybe they should learn it before bagging them? and NO l am not a shetland breeder, l do however have a good understanding of their correct conformation requirements temperments etc and those things that are called ‘shetlands’ in the USA are certianly not what originated from the shetland isles as far as l’m concerned. Anyway each to their own l guess.l do want to know if hackney pony is bred into american shetland if anyone knows please(smile). On the subject of the mini breeder with a chip on her shoulder l say ‘grow up’ recognise that deliberate breeding of closely related stock to downsize your breed has caused massive numbers of what can only be described as DEFORMED ponies and horses(both mini horse AND ponies suffer dwarfism)that suffer a great deal of pain before dying. STOP STOP STOP what you all are doing and LOOK at them then work on a different method such as not so closely inbreeding even if it means longer time to get the size you require! YES l do own a mini STALLION and YES l do intend breeding with him…WISELY!!!
to the ladie who like mini’s
why dont you just get a dog, and show it, like what are you going to do with all these pony’s you breed in a few years.
love this site:)
welovefugly: if you’re refering to me with my mini stallion l dont ‘love’ them that much but l just happen to have a quality stallion who is on offer to decent breeders to upgrade their stock ok.I personally will only ever keep one mini mare(she’s overheight so as to not have issues foaling) and she WONT be bred every year either. In saying that we contemplated gelding the horse but the reality is that we should sell him to a reputable breeder or offer his services at a reasonable price for people to use to upgrade stock ok. We Dont want to sell him so we will allow him to be used, hopefully it will help people improve their animals. oh yea by the way, he passed his vet inspection with flying colors(NO health issues) and our vet was very impressed with him(if he was crap l’d get him gelded ok) and now as a 5 year old he’s expecting his first 2 foals so dont worry we wont end up will a million minis ok(smile). oh yeaaaa MY fav breed is thoroughbreds ok and NO l dont breed em till they’re comin outta me ass either lol.
regards to you all
I have to applaud the person who outed this blog owner. Kudo’s to you!
Seems our blog owner sure doesn’t like the tables being turned on her. I have never seen pictures yanked off a website so fast. Hey you have them on the internet so anyone can take them and do whatever they want right?? Apparently not for you since you took them down so quickly.
And notice how people were so ready to jump on Cathy until they found out it was the owner of this blog. Its just too bad that the pictures were not up a little longer and we could have heard everyone tear her to shreds like they do everyone else.
I needed a good laugh today.
Hey thetruthhurts, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if cathyatkinsonportlandpolo, cathy atkinson and fuglyhorseoftheday are all one in the same. If that’s the case the last laugh is definately on you. ;-}

That’s a big 10-4 on that one, lifelike.
Hey I’m seventeen and I can pass a grammar class and nor do I know everything. This bitch sounds like she just got out of hell, I mean highschool, and had no idea as to what to do with herself. She must be one of those girls that tried out for cheerleading, got laughed out of the tryouts, then tried out for color guard, got laughed out again and as a last resort begged mommy and daddy to get her a cute little pony. Of course you were an expert showman, you must have made it to the advanced level in 4h. For Christ’s sakes, please stop making the rest of us who are under the age of 21 look like self righteous assholes who think they know everything there is to know. We don’t know everything, its not hard to admit. So take your minis, shove the ugly useless fuckers where the sun don’t shine and stop giving me a predetermined bad reputation in the horse world.
“What do you think a shetland is, prob you picture a short fat pony …HAH. Nope, basically a small saddlebred or arab ranging up to 46”, most about 40”-44” and extremely fine boned and hackney type movement.”
ARG. That is an AMERICAN SHETLAND, and is not a Shetland at all!!! Shetlands come from the Shetland Isle, and are fab, versatile and RIDEABLE ponies. Unlike these ugly little mutants…
My horses have always been barefoot, and the whole ‘they’re feet are supposed to be long’ is complete BS. When their toes are so long they start ‘winging out’ as my mom calls it, it’s time to see a farrier! We’ve only ever had one horse that was shod regularly- and that was corrective shoeing, since when we got her, her feet were screwed up and she was walking on her soles.
The Shetland Islands are a GROUP of Islands of the northern most coast of Scotland.
They are actually nearer to Iceland than the Mainland.
It is a long time since Shetland Ponies were bred only there- there are studs all over the UK and the World, in fact.
Shetland Ponies were NEVER bred to be ridden- they dragged sleds and carried pannier baskets on the Islands, where there were virtually no roads, and they were and sometimes still are turned out on the scattald (land between the stone walls enclosing good grazing and the beaches) each winter to fend for themselves on seaweed and whatever they could scrounge – this sort of care would be frowned upon nowadays but there are still poor practises going on.
They were made popular by Lord Londonderry who bred them for the mines (allegedly introducing Dartmoor blood) and Good Old Queen Victoria who used them to give her thousands of offspring rides and pull carts on the Isle of Wight.
They were never bred as, nor to my way of thinking are they suitable as, children’s riding ponies.
I like Am. Shetland’s- I do think it is a shame the name was kept- I think a unique opportunity was missed to develop a breed far nicer than the POA and far more “American” than any other pony breed.
Hackney and Welsh and Shetlands were used to create the Am. Shetland- if I were still doing leadline this would be my pony of choice.
Miniature Horses were bred from a huge (HUGE) importation of UK Shetlands that were promptly clipped out, and Yes, a few Dwarfs in there, crossed with Am. Shetlands- of which there were quite a few small ones already around, – and also some Falabellas- though not many, and some Spotted Ponies (Appy Ponies) mainly form Europe.
There is also a lot of garbage written about the origins of Min. Horses but they have been around for at least forty years, and some are Fugly and some are not and some are just plain nice little animals.
I have never met a nasty one- I have never met a nasty Am Shetland or UK Shetland either- I am sure they exist.
I HAVE met some nasty Arabs, and I still adore the breed.
I have met, known and had to contend with some AWFUL, terrible, more than fugly Arabs- beyond Fugly- and I STILL adore the breed.
Basically that is it- you pick a breed and you support it, I guess.
First off, I own a mini….and it was harder than hell to find a nice one. I commend you Fugly for your article!!! Oh, and bullshit to the email you received….people DO NOT breed for the larger ‘B’sized ones, they shoot for the smaller ones. I am thrilled that someone has finally stood up and cleared the bullshit from the room!!! Kudos to you. Also agree with you that people treat them like dogs and because of that, they have no respect for people and then the owner is shocked that sweet little Flffy knocked out either their front teeth…or their farriers! I have one mini and she is ‘well versed’. I’ve done NH training with her and she can side pass towards and away from me, jump anything she is pointed at, loads easily in a trailer and is trained for harness. I’ve been around enough minis that have walked all over people all their lives and are nothing but a pain in the ass. They are NOT dogs assholes…dogs don’t have hooves. I’ve searched high and low for ‘the right’ mini and have been lied to by sellers…for the love of their breed. Bullshit. People can cover up and lie about what they want….but the smell will always be there.
Logging in…..comments later.
“What do you think a shetland is, prob you picture a short fat pony …HAH. Nope, basically a small saddlebred or arab ranging up to 46”, most about 40”-44” and extremely fine boned and hackney type movement.”
What the HELL is she raving about? I breed and show Shetlands, and they are certainly not “small saddlebreds or arabs”…they are a hardy, native British Breed that are measured in hands, not inches. And she’s trying to yell at Fugly for being uneducated!
The part about the Shetland pony admittedly confused me. I’m from Germany and for me Shetland ponies are INDEED short, stocky ponies with thick manes and mischievous dispositions. I was actually quite startled to see the picture of a ‘Champion’ Shetland stallion who looked more like a tiny Saddlebred. That is FAR from the hardy pony breed standard as described in the UK.
number three is hilarious.
nineteen eh?
riight.
she’s CLEARLY the expert ‘breeder’ and ‘horse lover’ and knows WAAAAY more than FHOTD!
*rolls eyes* some people need to grow up some before being all accusatory over small things
Actually, at the last show I went to, there was a lady there with arab-style minis and clients. I got “trapped” behind a mini in halter. They looked like they had decent confirmation, but their coats were fuzzy and their necks were shaved…. tbh I thought it was ugly. Several classes later I was showing a different horse, a pony mare, in a class with another of the arab-minis. I won both classes and I’m still laughing at that last email with the “champion know-it-all teenager” -rollseyes-
