Hey Mustang breeders? Here’s what’s wrong with breeding Mustangs.

A friend of mine likes to say that breeding Mustangs is like breeding mosquitoes. In short, why would you breed something there are plenty of already that no one wants? Now, the Mustang breeders are horrified if you say this, but here’s a well known Mustang breeder – giving them away for free on DreamHorse.

(Oh too funny. He deleted his ad. Do you think he got some hate mail? Hey, I found an interview he did for some moron reporter – check this out…)

“Rick Littleton started breeding kigers in 1987 and now has 100 on his ranch in Alfalfa. He has sold Kigers for as much as $13,000 – not much for a top thoroughbred, but a high price for horses once hunted for dogfood. So, $13,000 or…free? You’ve got a bit of a range going there.

His top stud is Steens Kiger, who sired Donner, the model for “Spirit.” DreamWorks and Littleton won’t disclose the price paid for Donner, but the purported number is $50,000, which Littleton allows is “in the neighborhood.” Spielberg needs to make better business decisions. Perhaps he should read DreamHorse and see he can get one for free?

“When I first started this, no one wanted these horses,” Littleton said. and apparently this is still the case if you are GIVING THEM AWAY. “But within a couple years, people were selling their picking numbers (from the adoption lotteries) for thousands of dollars. Guess the rush is over, ya think?

“Most of my customers are romantics,” Littleton said. “The horses are part of American history.” No, most of your customers are suckers and I fear you are running low on them.

Seriously, my head is going to explode one of these days. Why would you breed something you have to give away? What is the point? Are you truly so stupid you don’t comprehend there aren’t enough good homes for all the horses already out there? GOD. This just makes me furious.

Friend sent me to your blog – I’ve read every single post….you’re hilarious.

Glad to see someone else out there in the fight against fucktards breeding fucktard horses. :D

Here’s where I have to correct. BLM Mustangs are probably low-quality, porrly bred horses that people will only take for free. Kigers and other types of domestic mustang (I don’t think they’ve been feral for a VERY long time) are (usually, you do get the morons) well-bred, well-conformed horses who should fetch a decent price.
Maybe not $13000, but what you gonna do…

Kyani, you’re wrong. Kigers are running wild in two herd management areas in Oregon. They’re gathered every four or five years.

I’ll also correct your correction on BLM mustangs being low quality and poorly bred. Of course, I’m partial, as I’ve got three. Grew up with domestics and must say that my first mustang made me a believer; they’re smarter and sounder because A) stupid mustangs are dead mustangs, and B) unsound mustangs are dead mustangs.

However, I will agree that folks ought not be breeding an animal that is doing well enough on it’s own. I figure God’s breeding program is superior to anything else out there that’s man-made, and this site pretty much shows that!

Amen Tracey. If you are a Mustang lover you love the fact that they are shaped by nature not a man made breed. When you take them from the wilds and breed them in captivity you are just creating another man made breed of horse and eiminating the one thing that makes a Mustang special, that hardened by nature chatacter. People just do not seem to understand this.

You see kigers have been considered a type of Spanish Mustangs. Spanish Mustangs are not really very abundant on public lands and are in constant threat of having their populations tainted by modern stock. There is nothing wrong with the average BLM mustang in my book but there is a need for breeding the Spanish Mustangs, the amazing Spanish horse that has been refined by the American West. Please don’t pick on my spelling:)

I owned a mustang mare from the blm. I wouldnt buy a mustang from a breeder, I would rather get one from the blm. I loved my mustang mare, and for a mustang, she wasnt built wrong. She did hunter/jumper, barrels, poles, endurance, and did really well!

Why would you buy from a breeder when you can get one for 125 bucks from the BLM?
